It's not like when some other team takes over and makes a shitty game. If another team makes a game in a series and it's good, then it counts as a proper game in the series.

It's not like when some other team takes over and makes a shitty game. If another team makes a game in a series and it's good, then it counts as a proper game in the series.

I don't see a problem with it.  The guy who came up with the ideas and themes for the original game returns and wants to make a game picking up where he left off- I'm all for it. 

Played for a few hours and am really enjoying the game.

Return to Monkey Island's art style works a lot better in motion when playing. Really good animation.

Also if you're playing on PC remember to put quality on the highest. I was wondering while all the sprites were lower resolution until I changed it and then it looked nice and sharp on my 1440p monitor.

I like when the company tries to continue on with the brand and the creators make a spiritual successor. The FPS genre has lots of instances of the latter succeeding while the former fades away, Medal of Honor -> Call of Duty, Operation Flashpoint -> ARMA, STALKER -> Metro, etc.

Yeah, but it picks right up directly after the second game.  It's the "new" 3- which is fine since there wasn't a numbered 3 in this series anyway.

I'm with Bebpo in that the art looks fine in-game.  I definitely prefer the old sprite art from back in the day though.

However, it's a hungry beast (~1 hour of play time) and the GPU performance (Vega) isn't great.

Better to wait for the Ryzen 6000 models with RDNA graphics.

I'm surprised at how many people seem to think any objection to her rant was the vague feminist-ish content of part of it and not that it was stupid, seemed deliberately provocative in a needless manufactured way, and a weird thing to be doing in the context of when she did it. (Especially how G4 immediately tweeted it as a "mic drop" historic moment for women everywhere and then how last week they deleted it from their YouTube even as everyone was insisting G4 still backed it and her.)

The gameplay looks really rough and even worse than Space Harrier 1. The animations aren't smooth and it's it looks about as good as the PS2 Space Harrier, the worst Space Harrier game of all time.

Yeah, one reason I can't stand & skip most demos. Since they tend to be the start of the games which means sitting through 30 mins of cutscenes and tutorials just so you can fucking try the game for 60 seconds to see if it clicks.

I get why modern games have tutorials (because people are dumb and too lazy to read a manual or just trial & error figure things out) and why they have cutscenes at the start (to establish the "story" of the world and how you got to that point). But I think games would be better without both, or at least keep both to like 1-2 mins max.

Have had moments where I’m fed up with long intros I retreat to arcade and older games. Some games I know I’ll enjoy, I need to save for when I have an hour or two of uninterrupted time to play.

Something I appreciate about the whole rogue like genre is how immediate it is. You’re expected to be confused. You’re expected to lose. There’s no faffing about. Just tossed into the deep end.

I’d say there’s probably ten-fold more games that would have greatly benefited from the developers not being so precious with their expository intros and instead opened up immediately with at least something interactive.

So Trails in the Black II came out this morning and sometimes watching Japan devs struggle with graphics in the post-PS2 world is kind of 
I really wonder if Japanese gamers just can't notice framerate and tech stuff in games?

Like the last games on this engine by Falcom:

Trails in the Reverie - PS4 game that runs locked 60fps on PS5, looks clean IQ and damn nice (they had it perfect here)
Trails in the Black I - PS4 game that on launch was locked to 30fps on PS5, eventually unlocked and was perfect locked 60fps. Like the game instantly runs 60fps locked and the last game was 60fps, why wouldn't they have thought to unlock it from the start? Do they not own any PS5s at Falcom? (jokingly I think this was possible)
Trails in the Black II - PS5 version on launch, same graphics as the last game, runs like 55-60fps with heavy dips pretty regularly. Without VRR the game is a juddery mess. With VRR it's generally smooth 60fps feel but has Elden Ring-like dips a lot. Oh and alternatively you can play the PS4 version on PS5 but then they locked the framerate to 30fps in that version and turned off the anti-aliasing.

The only difference I think between Black I and Black II PS5 is they probably increased the native resolution and added AA. But like if they're not hitting 60fps, they could have easily just rendered it a bit lower at 1440p or something (with cell-shaded anime art you can't even tell the difference) and had a locked 60fps. It's just like...they don't care and are fine with juddery mess Elden Ring style games? Very bizarre.

At least when it comes to the US I'm sure it'll have a Steam version which will run on a toaster at locked 60fps or more.
