I'm glad they singled out Gust as a horrible, pandering, developer, but that statement is just plain wrong... there are so many more non moe JRPGs this generation than with moe, consoles -wise.

That being said, I consider games like EO and YU to be more of a stylized look than actual pandering for sales the way Gust and Nipponichi operates, because the character styles aren't being used to sell the product, it's just happens to be the style the developers chose.

The offending pages and files have been taken offline, however Google Cache has record accessible GOW3 files on the site.

I've never played a Gust game but unlike Idea Factory, I'm not against the idea of playing one someday.  The Eternal Mana games had nice looking sprites, and I heard that despite the series looking incredibly pedo-creepy, and thus keeping me from ever purchasing one, that Ar Tonelico 2 was actually a quality rpg, and the Atelier series has always seemed interesting in that N1 Marl Kingdom-esque way.  I own a few Gust games (EM1/2, Roronoa, maybe some PS2 atelier) but I've never gotten around to playing any.

Probably won't get to one since I have rpgs from better devs in my backlog, but you never know.  I don't harbor any negative feelings towards the dev though like I do Idea Factory/Compile Heart.

The Mana Khemia games are decent, low-difficulty RPGs, though mostly just fluff. They're also fairly innocuous, rather than being pedo-creepy like the Ar Tonelico series [especially the third].

The problem I have with Gust games are that they strictly pander. Take out all of the moe fluff, and for some games (like AT, maybe AT2) you have a decent, but distinctly low-budget, JRPG.

But the problem is they then dress it up with the moe and cute and try to market it as high quality stuff, and the fans take it in without a second thought. Most Gust games are at best, pleasant distractions that don't hold a candle to real JRPG series and it annoys me when people try to prop them as something more.

I know, right? If you take away the Shin Megami Tensai series and all its spinoffs, the Trauma Center series, Radiant Historia, Catherine, and the Etrian Odyssey series they really haven't published much worth discussing!

Well, they have certainly cut back on their publishing of external Japanese products.  That's likely due to unfavourable market conditions for available projects, though.  Most of what is going unpublished is either unsellable (various obscure PSP RPGs) or difficult/impossible to license (Namco stuff, Nintendo stuff, Square-Enix stuff, SEGA stuff).  At the same time, they're starting to get rolling on more publishing of external stuff from other countries.

Civ 5 took some features away from 4 that made the game more replayable. Civ 5 isn't as replayable and feels more broken in terms of design compared to 4, which is perfect.
