Silicon Knights was always a shit developer who got lucky a few times.  Once they parted ways with Microsoft, they sealed their fate.

No shit?  That was obvious in 2007 when Too Human looked like a broken piece of crap, Dyack's slack jawed ninny lapdogs over at GAF and other places were still convinced that the game was still too early in development and it was going to wow us.  They bought his bullshit like Dyack hoovers down a box of Ho Hos.

In August 2010, Activision sent us a list of issues they had with the game." According to a source, this list requested SK's plans to complete the game, and how they would, in the source's words, "attempt to make it fun at all." Activision's list also noted that they were "unsatisfied with Silicon Knights' failures to ever address their notes over the course of development," recalls the same source.

SK became popular in spite of pumping out D grade software for over a decade.  In his mind, why fix what isn't broken?

"Denis is not an X-Men fan either, so he didn't care much for the license. To him, it seemed more like a job to get us by, until ED2 could be developed and sold to a publisher—which never happened.

Yet despite this reportedly split effort, the ED2 demo also failed to come together in a satisfying way, sources said. "The farthest they got with it when I left SK was, literally, one two-level church interior," says one former employee. "It was really bad, as I recall. It took the side-team a long time to even get that far. Bad tech, combined with a team composed of people who had not shipped a title since Metal Gear really hurt that demo. Other than that, I can't explain why things went so poorly for them [except that] a lot of key people responsible for the original Eternal Darkness are long gone."

Maybe because Eternal Darkness was crap all along and without the rose colored glasses known as Nintendo exclusivity, people saw it for what it was?

"SK over-promises to get a contract, and then always under-deliver. Activision was just the first publisher to hold their feet to the fire, so to speak."

  I'm glad someone called it for what SK pulled.

During my initial interviews with former employees, one of them told me, "Leaving the staff's name off credits is consistent with Denis' attitude towards former SK employees. If you leave SK, you are a ‘traitor,' and he will do whatever he can to fuck you by denying you the validation of a finished game credit. This includes bad-mouthing employees with upwards of 10 years' experience the day they are out the door." Another source points out, "Having your wife head up HR is completely contrary to the purpose of an HR department. You couldn't talk to Joanne [confidentially] without it going straight back to Denis."

the company had decided to add the uncredited developers back into the game's credits, but under the ‘special thanks' section. Another source suggested that "Activision caught wind of Denis Dyack's plan to leave everyone off the credits and forced him to put everyone on."

I love how Activision repeatedly slapped down Dyack.  How many cases of Hostess Snack Cakes did he have to ingest for every soiling humiliation?

"Activision basically forced SK to take the project seriously by putting SK's reputation on the line," a source says. "For SK, this meant no backing out. If they failed to produce, it would be another public failure.

"St. Catharines as of today is completely devoid of experienced [game] developer talent," notes one former employee who, like many, left the city after finding work elsewhere. "SK left a smoking crater as its game development legacy in St. Catherines, not unlike what happened with their reputation. Scorched-earth policies, all-round."

Two games in eight years is a poor outcome by the standards of any studio. Too Human was a disappointment to many, yet now Silicon Knights is still dealing with the fall-out from its biggest public failure to date: X-Men: Destiny, a game best described as "mediocre," "mindless," "generic", and "an absolute mess".

Complete mismanagement, by definition, either prevent the game from shipping, or prevent a game from shipping with decent quality. It is possible to make a bad game with a good team, but it's impossible to make a good game with a bad team.

Decided to replace my aging, recently-freezing, launch model PS3 now.  Stores around here are already getting low on new system stock.  Had to drive all the way out to a Fry's to find one of the new systems.

It's actually pretty nice and you can use the eject button to open it or slide it open with your hand.  The system looks a bit less ugly than in screenshots, but no doubt that it feels cheaper than the original model does.  Pretty much like the PSP 2000 did in comparison to the PSP 1000 series.

I just turned both systems on at the same time to do the system transfer...the slim booted up noticeably faster.  Did Sony improve anything when they released the first slim PS3?

Yes, it's more in-line with Nocturne and other SMT games. You can fuse monsters, create your own team... etc.

It can also get brutally hard and unforgiving if you set yourself up incorrectly.

Last year I beat him in the grand finals of a smash touney at a random anime convention in Ohio. When he lost, he immediately started screaming, grabbed a couple gamecube controllers within reach, fell to the floor, and started pounding them on the ground as hard as possible busting them down to circuit boards.

He was losing his mind, and three con staffers had to tackle him to keep him from lashing out at anyone else nearby. He curled up in a ball and they had to carry him out of the game room, where he stayed laying on the floor, sobbing in the hallway for hours. Hotel staff told him to leave, he wouldn't, and police ended up coming and zip-tied his hands and escorted him out.

fwiw, the guys in Corn are not any better.  One of them (MrAllCaps, i think) was at the front of the room at UFGT8 screaming "Suck that dick!  Put that foot in that pussy!" the whole fucking weekend, at every match...almost literally, those two sentences.  When Marvel finals were going on, one person made a comment about it and the dude starts going roid rage and has to get escorted out of the room because "some white motherfucker was gonna get fucked up."  I had a good impression of the FGC that weekend, nothing like stream monsters would have you believe, but that one fucking guy made the room uncomfortable cause you could just tell he was overaggressive as fuck.  On top of that, they're from Detroit, but were dickriding all the top players all weekend instead of rooting for Chicago folks. 

and at youmacon, the whole fucking crew was there with fucking megaphones shouting at the players.  They even rushed the stage and were heckling Noel Brown during a match (which is why Noel was being all tough during that match with footwurk.)   

naturally, they'd make a video making fun of someone with obvious emotional problems cause they're scrubby (not in fighting games, like real life scrubby) and don't have any tact. 

If something really fucked up happens at a fighting game tourney, mark my words, one of those dudes will be involved.
