I'm not sure. Pre-hype is starting to be reminiscent of Sim City. While that games always online is bad, the dumbed down gameplay is why people gave it the finger ultimately, and everything is indicating this will happen in Sims 4. Even the official forums, which always has people who are like WELL IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, DON'T BUY IT. There are definitely Sims players who like what they see, and are buying the game, but they seem way in the minority so far. But of course, given that this is the internet, it's not like any of this is fully predictable. The more hardcore sites like MTS are definitely full on hate mode. Places like Reddit are totally fine with it, but reddit's sims subreddit is small as shit. Official forums (which is huge) has 76 page threads like this:

edit:

The Sims 4 has less than 100,000 pre-orders?

Sims fan-base is tired of it. Sims 3 was a giant disappointment for many, Sim City was

and our fanbase tends to overlap, combined with TS4 apathy/hate/fury.

EA!
