Xenoblade does a lot of stuff I don't really like and as a result, I don't think as much of it as everyone else seems to (like, I don't think it's the best RPG I played last gen). But it's a game that I think someone should at least try once, and it's pretty decent yet not without its issues. Don't fully play through because it might be exhausting to some people, but at least try. I think a lot of people oversell the game, to be honest.
Baten Kaitos 1 might be a little exhausting to some people (especially since the dub is so bad even though the art and music are good), but Baten Kaitos Origins felt more accessible.
Monolith Soft is just one of those developers that I don't think is as good as everyone else say they are. I think a lot of the staff were better off when they were back at Square. It's like a "they're great when they're combined with the right people, but not on their own" sort of thing. It's the same with Sakaguchi, Yuji Naka, etc. Taken on their own, their games can be pretty monotonous but they look really pretty. That's a pretty big reason why I'm not looking forward to Xenoblade X.
