lol, my bad, I forgot how numbers worked.  :dizzy

The trailer wasn't supposed to be out until noon, so all the early leaks got ganked because wouldn't want people to see the trailer a few hours early!  :derp

Here it is for reals this time:

Activision apparently got their money (from the retailers?) so they are like :smug

Quote
London, UK – 10th September, 2014 – Activision Publishing, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Activision Blizzard, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI), announced today that the company sold more than $500 million of Destiny into retail stores and first parties worldwide as of day one, making the game the biggest new video game franchise launch in history.

“Based on extraordinary audience demand, retail and first party orders worldwide have exceeded $500 million for Destiny,” said Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard. “This industry milestone marks another blockbuster success for our company and demonstrates our unique ability to create some of the most successful entertainment franchises in the world. The success of Destiny, along with the recent introduction of Blizzard Entertainment’s Hearthstone, is further validation of our unique capabilities to create great entertainment franchises from the ground up.”

Destiny launched at over 11,000 midnight openings around the world, as fans in over 178 countries (Source: Radian6) shared their fervour on YouTube and in social media.

“Since the beginning, we’ve been confident that our investment and belief in Destiny would pay off. But not many people believed we’d be able to say it did so on day one,” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing. “Destiny is officially the biggest new franchise launch in our industry’s history. It’s also the highest-selling day one digital console release in history. We have more confidence than ever that Destiny will become one of the iconic franchises of this generation and Activision’s next billion dollar brand. Most importantly, it’s just a great game which we can’t stop playing. A big thanks to our incredibly talented team and partners who helped make this happen; most importantly, our partners at Bungie.”

Type 0? That has nowhere near as much hype because plenty of folks have played it and expounded on its flaws. The only way you can be hyped for that is if you only listen to the niccas claiming "It's the real FFXIII" and not seek out a variety of impressions.

Remember that FF14 stank upon initial release.
I tried it out after the relaunch and just thought it was just a treadmill.  But then so are all MMOs, but that's none of my business.

FF14 is good enough that I've been completely willing to sink at least an hour of play time for it every day since the relaunch last year. It's certainly helped reduce how much I spend on games since its the only thing I play!

So there's a possibility of Xenosaga HD?
I'd say it'd be a great idea if they applied the combat system from ep 3 to the rest of them and actually cut out ep 2 all together.
Xenosaga ep 3 really was a better game than FFXII.

Now if they could find a way to do Xenoblade HD without cannibalizing their new 3DS sales then THAT would be a no brainer.

Never played Xenosaga.  There's an anime version now isn't there?  As cutscene focused as that game supposedly is, wouldn't that probably be better than watching the game / playing the movie?

Yup. The dungeon and battle content really felt like filler since the cutscenes are 500 years long.  Might as well just watch the cutscenes on YouTube.

...though to be fair, I kinda dislike Xenosaga and half of its cast, so pay me no mind.  A lot of people really enjoy the character interactions and the narrative's twists and turns (and general allusions to Gnosticism, etc.), so maybe if you're really into that, you could play it yourself and enjoy the journey as opposed to getting the cutscenes fed to you.  The games were supposed to be a bigger thing than what they currently are, but they didn't have the budget or time for that.

I heard the anime sucked, though.  It didn't go into enough detail like the games did (and that's just a limit of the medium/budget).  The DS XS 1+2 game had mixed reactions.

Xenosaga ep 3 really was a better game than FFXII.

xenosaga 1 was tolerable. xenosaga 2 was....it just was. aside the rubido storyline, it wasn't terribly good. Still better than Suikoden IV and FF13, though. Xenosaga 3, i couldn't get past the first 5 hours. I think I had outgrown the series by the time I played that game. I sometimes do have some nostalgia for 1. The music was so good, you'd be dumb not to.

Yeah, the Xenosaga anime (which only covers the first game) is garbage. The games range from Decent (III) to half baked (I) to outright bad (II).

It's really not worth the time investment overall.  :yuck Just listen to the OSTs and be done with it.

XS1's ost is worth the investment. :bow Mitsuda's last good ost. The game doesn't do the music justice, so even more reason to not play it and just listen to the ost.

For some reason I just can't stick to Xenoblade. I think it's because I heard at the end there's a lot of grinding to be able to beat the last boss. And I hate grinding.
Honestly I started it.
Stopped and went and finished MGS 3
Picked it up again
Stopped and finished DQ 1-5
Picked it up again
Stopped and finished the Super Mario Collection
Picked it up again
Stopped and went and finished Peace walker

I generally like it when I play it and I love the music and presentation but for some reason it just doesn't hook me in a way to keep me consistently coming back.

Xenoblade does a lot of stuff I don't really like and as a result, I don't think as much of it as everyone else seems to (like, I don't think it's the best RPG I played last gen).  But it's a game that I think someone should at least try once, and it's pretty decent yet not without its issues.  Don't fully play through because it might be exhausting to some people, but at least try.  I think a lot of people oversell the game, to be honest.

Baten Kaitos 1 might be a little exhausting to some people (especially since the dub is so bad even though the art and music are good), but Baten Kaitos Origins felt more accessible.

Monolith Soft is just one of those developers that I don't think is as good as everyone else say they are.  I think a lot of the staff were better off when they were back at Square.  It's like a "they're great when they're combined with the right people, but not on their own" sort of thing.  It's the same with Sakaguchi, Yuji Naka, etc.  Taken on their own, their games can be pretty monotonous but they look really pretty.  That's a pretty big reason why I'm not looking forward to Xenoblade X.

and yeah, that's what I got out of XS1. I remember people raving about it, and me finding it slightly above average. Monolithsoft has always been pretty overrated as a developer.

Dude if Xenosaga Ep 3 is better than FFXII then Xenoblade definitely is.
Keep in mind the thing that made Ep 3 so much better was that Namco essentially scrapped the team and put other people in charge.
If nothing else I think the world of Xenoblade is much more vibrant than FFXII and the music is certainly better.

Yeah, I haven't actually beaten Xenoblade either. I feel like I've played long enough where I have a solid opinion though, and SpeedStats has told me that the game doesn't change much after the fact unless I enjoy doing more pointless fetch quests.

I basically associate Monolith with pretty games that usually aren't actually very fun to play.  Their combat systems are generally really poorly designed and serve more as a vessel for their zzzzzz stories.

Edit: I don't know if I'd agree that XB is better than 12 though. 12's side content easily stomps all over Xenoblade's laughable excuse of a quest system, and the gambit system guarantees that your party members will actually do what you want them to do in battle, unlike Xenoblade's garbage party AI that doesn't do more than spam their available skills.

Yeah, definitely gave up on Xenoblade part way through and Monolith for good along with it.

I remember buying Xenosaga 1 at launch all excited and after I finished it (at the time I finished every game I bought) just immediately started thinking less of it and steadily progressing downward from there over time. The lack of music was such hot garbage. Then everything I read about Xenosaga 2 pre-release put it in the no-buy category and I was done with the series.

I missed the Valkyrie Profile talk though, that's one of my favs. The only worthwhile game made by Tri Ace as far as I'm concerned.

Xenoblade's quest system was indeed terrible. None of it mattered at all. Which, while I thought the execution was great (no having to check journals or go all the way back to find the original quest giver) they just didn't matter at all. None of it impacted the story or changed a damn thing. Why bother at all? Compared to FFXII's admittedly incredible hunt system that's a place where FFXII has Xenoblade beaten outright. Of course, I feel like the hunt system was the best thing about FFXII and I cared a lot more about that than the rest of the entire game.

VP2 is better than VP1 imo. The combat system, dungeon system are aaa-tier. The characters and story aren't bad, either. Seriously, play it. i think it's the winner of that generation in terms of jrpg gameplay.

That's a game where you really can just play it and figure it out on it's own. I don't even remember them forcing you go through the tutorial.

I love Resonance of Fate, but that love took re-starting the game three times over while barely comprehending how to play the game correctly the first two times. The in-game tutorial is really bad at teaching you how to combine all the aspects of the battle system together because it only teaches you the individual elements in a vacuum.

That and it's really easy to screw yourself over early on if you spend too much money on new clothes instead of gun parts like I did those first two times.  :lol

The tutorial is  inside the colosseum next to the starting city and is optional, yeah. Personally I'd suggest to do the tutorial enough to learn what the basic controller inputs are then experiment on your own from there, cause the tutorial goes in way too deep imo.
