I knew Fornite was popular after numerous tweets like this went viral

https://twitter.com/FortniteFunny/status/972008608333352961

and the endless amount of cringy compilations on youtube with 1M+ views

but seeing Drake and Travis Scott (with known gamer/Steelers WR Juju) play this shit is surreal

It's less violent and realistic, thus more suitable for younger players. Also, the Battle Royale mode is free.

Guess I'm just surprised by how many people you don't normally associate with gaming seem to play this. Perhaps they're like my younger brothers, "Fifa addicts but not really gamers", who saw something that could be fun/joined in on other friends playing it. They're not interested in other games than Fifa (which seems to be a popular normie game too, understandably), but they're both very addicted to Fortnite and play it for several hours every day with their friends.

Gal Gunvolt Burst is out on PS4.

Thought this was gonna be another new Mega Man from Inticreates, but turns out it's just a port of Mighty Gunvolt Burst, which came out on Switch and 3DS last year, with DLC character Ekoro thrown in for free.

It's an amalgamation of easily digestible elements - 3rd person shooting and building (of course popularized by minecraft). Learning the best ways to build on the fly lends to depth for those who want to take it more seriously.

Being free and letting you play with your friends are definitely the biggest factors though.
League of Legends is one of the biggest games in the world and that's even less accessible as a MOBA. I wonder what they share in common?

I don't understand why Fortnite of all things is so popular among normies.

Answer:

- Free
- Battle Pass is smart
- Can still earn "V-Bucks" playing the paid PVE mode to use in the free PVP mode
- Available on every platform under the sun
- CROSS-PLAY (Drake was on PS4, Ninja on PC)
- Colorful artstyle
- Cartoony artstyle
- Not buggy dogshit like H1 and PUBG, runs great too
- Constantly being updated
- Fun

Fortnite won. Imagine, nobody gave two shits about this game because it was some shitty PVE mode. They did the most epic hail mary for their game and it won in spades.

Pokemon GO is a good example, but they are restricted by Nintendo. Plus Niantic fucked up a lot, and their updates have been sllllooowwww (I've never played PKMN GO btw). Epic hasn't really done anything yet to garner negative media.

PUBG is still popular, some people prefer the realistic approach. But it costs money and requires a PC that can run it. Even PUBG on Xbox requires at minimum the Xbox X.

Fortnite runs seamlessly on PS4, PS4 Pro, Xbox, Xbox X, PC, iOS, Android... did I mention all you have to do is download it? And now it has cross-save, so you can take your Xbox/PS4/etc credentials and log on PC and have all your skins, settings and more available? I can now play with my friends on PC (Bore included) and everyone is none the wiser.

I've never played Fortnite btw

Every Season, there is a Battle Pass. The Battle Pass is basically a one time purchase that lets you unlock skins as you play. Skins are exclusive for that season.

It sounds better than overwatch for sure (+ free game).

Twitch Prime now includes a monthly bundle of PC games. If you got a subscription for Amazon Prime, like I do, you can link both Prime and Twitch accounts and you'll get those games for free. The shitty thing is, that you gotta install that Twitch desktop app. No Steam codes or anything  >:(

Oh well, it's free, so whatever. I grabbed myself Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun. Here's an article on RPS about this month's Twitch bundle:

Looked at some of the God of War preview footage. The combat looks awful so far. They went from decent hack and slash-lite combat to what looks like Dark Souls combat.

Also worried about the people mentioning "mature and emotional" content since these are games journalists we're talking about.

Re: Random Gaming Talk Thread
« Reply #19419 on: March 20, 2018, 02:57:13 PM »
At first glance the combat looks like it could be fun if it has depth to it. What I can't stand is the camera; why would they put this shit in a hack n slash? There's literally no reason for it to be like that besides Sony being Sony

And the ~mature and emotional content will only be made more ridiculous by the fact that it's fucking Kratos going through it

I like the previews mentioning a skill tree and crafting system. Just what the series needed.

The camera is most likely like that because the PS4'd otherwise die trying to show the graphics.

Edit: I like the people making fun of the floating circles above the enemies in the old games, as if this having health bars above the enemies is any better.

Re: Random Gaming Talk Thread
« Reply #19421 on: March 20, 2018, 03:19:39 PM »
Feeling more and more like they should've just gone with a very loose spiritual sequel. There's no greek mythology anymore, Kratos is an entirely different character, they took out pretty much everything the series was known for trying to mold it into The Last of War. They could make a more interesting game by introducing a new character, calling it God of something else and trying to make this into something fresher instead

But then again this is a Sony western game so what are the chances. I'm glad I'm not a GoW fan cause I'd be pretty mad if I was

What's this gif meant to show?  It's either action-rpg or action-adventure depending on how much the skilltree and gear influences the game. It's not a hack and slash game.

It's the price we pay for "amazing" graphics.

I've already decided on doing a MST3000 style playthrough of the game with some friends so it should be a fun experience either way. Either the game actually turns out to be good or I'll have fun shitting on the game with friends. A win-win situation.

That's 5 seconds of more move variety and fluidity than an entire Zelda game. Not to mention that these titles all started as action adventures anyway. God of War 1, Devil May Cry 1 and Ninja Gaiden 1 all still had a much stronger focus on typical adventure elements like puzzle solving and exploration.
Also Godhand has a behind the shoulder camera and it's the GOAT :yeshrug

If there's a red flag it's always been the narrative focus. It still looks jarring and game journalists can't separate mature from pretentious.

While those two(Zelda and Souls) look the same at first glance, i don't really want to put them into the same category. Though if i had to choose i would probably go with GoW having more of a Zelda thing going on.

Eh, Horizon has a wider POV and looks better than anything I've seen out of God Of War so far - so I don't think it's anything to do with graphics.

Game's not going to have any camera cuts either, what I'd hate is if I can't skip cutscenes due to it.

Eh, Horizon has a wider POV and looks better than anything I've seen out of God Of War so far - so I don't think it's anything to do with graphics.

You got the digital foundry guys calling it the next big PS4 graphical showcase, so I'm assuming it's pushing quite a bit. I'm also not sure if the Santa Monica people are on the same technical prowess as the Guerilla games people.

Maybe it's an artistic choice though. Brings you in closer on the interactions with the kid. "So deep and emotional!"

Mario annihilated  :miyamoto

Awful list, no way should Bioshock, Red Dead Redemption, Mass Effect 2, or Last of Us go anywhere near a top 10.

Sounds like "of all time" means the PS3/360 to this generation.
