Was randomly looking through Nintendo's channel last night.

This game looks real cool. Hope it'll be worth a play.

Last year we got the Ys IX English announcement and the first English trailer from CS4, so I'm super hyped. This year I'm gonna continue to pray for Crossbell Kai, though I think we might be hearing some news about a US release of Hajimari first.

Looks cool, but what is it for? If you're a professional studio you won't use their character models, and if you're an indie, you probably can't create assets to match that quality, no?
Nevertheless, i'm curious to see what people do with it (aside from porn, obviously).

I'd love to just spend time playing with it, tbh.

Crash 4 is getting a next-gen upgrade + Switch + PC release next month. Free upgrade for PS4/XB1 owners thankfully

I wish I got on PSN when it was half off  :goldberg

Didn’t expect them to do a free upgrade, so I held off.

Launch price of the next-gen version is $40 anyway. Wait another month, and it'll be half-off of that.

According to the ree thread, next gen is 60, while PC and Switch are 40  :doge

So get the last gen version for like 30 or less and then upgrade.

Publisher Team17 and developer The Game Kitchen have announced the Blasphemous “Strife and Ruin update, which brings Miriam from Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night to Cvstodia, seeking help from The Penitent One. It will launch on February 18.
Here is an overview of the update, via Team17:

Quote
Tasked with helping Miriam return to her world, players must complete a series of platforming challenges and collect shards to repair her portal home. Filled with traps that force the player to hone their precision platforming abilities, those who pass the test and help Miriam return to her world will have a special reward bestowed upon them.

“Strife and Ruin” also introduces Boss Rush Mode, which becomes available after completing the main storyline. Ramping up the challenge to new heights, the mode features courses containing a selection of bosses that players take on using any of their save files. Each run is assigned a score based on various factors, with medals available for the toughest of Penitents.

A Demake Area has also been added that pays homage to classic 8-bit platformers, providing a linear experience, played inside an arcade cabinet that is hidden in a secret location on Cvstodia, with reimagined visuals to match the retro style. Core mechanics will change to suit the classic style as well, as The Penitent One strives to gather five golden skulls and defeat a new boss to reap the rewards. Continuing the retro theme, The Game Kitchen has also included several new render modes, emulating older TV effects that can be applied throughout the entire standard game.

I just remember Ninja Gaiden 2 pre-patch on Xbox 360 struggling in the final hallway with me cutting up 100's of Ninja's at 10fps :lawd.
There was also Razor's Edge on Wii U don't think I ever finished it.

Are these versions without blood? I never quite got what was wrong the Sigma things.

They have blood, but toned it down and the gore/dismemberment from Sigma 2 was removed IIRC.

From Reddit:
Quote
Go for Black. The reasoning behind this is simple, Sigma added content yes but for each piece it added it removed two. It removed puzzles, some cutscenes, changed some music, reworked a lot of the mechanics and removed a ton of hidden little weaknesses of bosses.

Sigma is the definition that quantity doesn't always trump quality. Black is just far more consistent of an experience. Also note that Sigma was a complete rework. So everything was made again from scratch. While this may sound good, the game was also a tad rushed which leads to some odd animations at times or things feeling strangely 'off'.

That said, it is fine to play Sigma. But if you're going to play ONE game, play Black. In my opinion all 4 versions are worth playing (I know I did), but that's a story for another day.
Quote
Each has its advantages. Overall I think Black has more style and would recommend it to a first-time player, and it has much cooler unlockable costumes. Sigma is a double-edged sword, I really enjoy some of the QoL improvements like being able to use items without pausing the game, getting flying swallow in ch 1, most of the underwater stuff in "The Path to Zarkhan" being taken out, and the game looks a little prettier overall. But then there's stuff like most of the new fights being annoying, the Doku fight in ch 2 being less dramatic than the original CGI cutscene, the removal of the intro video which is extremely important for framing the story. The Rachel chapters do not bother me as they're all very short if you skip the optional parts and she's decently fun to play once you figure her out but they're still a minus for many people.

Sigma is the one I play now because I don't have an xbox and I think it's perfectly fine for veteran players who just want to keep replaying for the combat because it's streamlined to have more of a focus on it with less of the filler adventure stuff, but that stuff did make the game feel more fleshed out when played originally in Black. Sigma still gives me what I want out of the game though and I really do love doing launcher shuriken juggle into midair flying swallow decapitation combos on those ch 1 and 2 ninjas and samurai.

The content added was three extra Rachel levels, that are just re-treads.  Sigma 2 did this as well with more levels.

I don't get why they couldn't make a compilation that has both versions of the first two games.

Maybe MS has the exclusive rights still? I agree the Sigma versions (the second one in particular, since it changes more things) have their problems, but as usual every time the Ninja Gaiden topic comes up, the issues are turned into a hyperbolic catastrophe.
Sigma 1 especially is basically the same game with a bunch of additions (some questionable, like the Rachel shit) but, mostly harmless or even enjoyable.
And even in the case of 2, you still have one of the best action games out there.

Also what kind of sick mind liked the godawful puzzles and platforming in NGB? Come on.

Aside from them being probably considered the "definitive versions" by Team Ninja, I'm going to assume the Sigma versions are easier to port. The Sigma versions were the ones they ported to Vita after all. NG/NGB was probably CODED TO THE METAL of the Xbox making it non-trivial to go back and port it nearly twenty years later.

I can't tell you what the project is, but I'm pretty sure when people realize we're working on it, they will be very excited."

Tbf in the Konami era of "we hate videogames" MGS Survive and stuff, a Blooper SH would be right up their alley.

I basically play games on a 6 months to a year delay at this point, i have accepted this fact.
That way i get them cheaper, and i rid myself of that release time "hype" of having to play shit on D1.
Though the actual reason is obviously time.

I have no idea why I waited so long to play The Last of Us. But I really loved it. Strangely enough I even cared about the story which I find myself caring less and less as I get older. In most games I have no idea what is going on in the story and just skip cut scenes.

Is part 2 even half as good?

TLOU2 is good, but it feels way too dragged out. TLOU1 is certainly the tighter experience, and with a way more focused plot. It does also a few times feel like Druckmann just trying to show how fucking woke he is, which makes it all a bit lame, while they dont pay much attention to other plot points that in the end, makes it a bit hard to care about the story for me. But personally it didn't bother me all that much, just a bit cringy. The gameplay itself however is a decent upgrade, so a bit of a trade off I guess.

I think the only N64 game that ran at 60fps was F-Zero X.

Emulated it runs at 60 for sure, but they were probably targetting the low 20's with the original N64 release lol  :yeshrug
I don't expect it would've ran any better than Conker.

I think I enjoyed TLOU2 more than the first game.

I mean at this point I feel Naughty Dog has perfected its style of controlled and easy stealth. What I mean is that at the end of the day stealth in their games is fairly simple and easily broken by people familiar with games. But I feel if you just go with the vibe of the game and ignore it, you find well-crafted and tense scenarios. Also, the gunplay is excellent.

The pacing is a little bad with honestly the first half of the game feeling very slow and pretty pointless. The whole semi-open world part felt like it was just there because people liked it in Lost Legacy. It feels like filler because it never comes back and is just involved in a fetch quest. Th story kind of meanders and really only lights up right at the tail end of Ellie's part. When you switch to Abby I feel the whole game really lights a fire under its ass. Better combat situations. A more engaging story.

The story is a little disjointed, but I think I liked it more than the more troupey story of the first game.  The first game is more crowd pleasing and more perfected in its game design. The 2nd isn't and that's probably why I find it more interesting.

People liked Abby's story? It's basically a retooling of the first game. Except you never get a good enough reason to care about Lev as opposed to Ellie. The 3 day structure makes it even more stupid. We're supposed to believe Abby threw everything away for a kid she knew for only 3 or 2 days? There's a reason the first one played out over a year of in-game time.

Human encounters in LoU2 are great, fluid movement+fantastic AI make for fun moments.
Infected though are still quite boring and monotone.

They have a couple of "classes", but they should diversify way more.

I feel like the introduction of the grass kinda broke the human AI. Way too easy to break combat and go back to stealth.

Introduction of the dogs later on kinda helps with that a bit. Too bad it's really easy to get around that as well, by just shooting the dogs first with a silenced pistol or the bow.

I think that's a common trait of every stealth game though.
AI is made stupid on purpose of course, so you'll always have ways to exploit it, from blind guards in Chaos Theory, to body luring in Hitman (and many others).
In LoU2 the enemies often use not-so-obvious path finding, try to flank you regularly (at least on hard, i dunno at lower difficulties) and of course have all those flavoring elements like personalized phrases and behaviors that add humanity (and i count under the AI umbrella, since that's essentially what it is).

Although AI is kind of a thorny topic, because the balance between letting you win, and fooling you into thinking the enemies are smart, is not just a technological challenge, but largely a design (and to a degree subjective) one.

I’m okay with different and even flawed, if I can appreciate what they were going for. Yeah, ND games are broken with stealth. Run and gun usually works just as well as duping the terrible stealth AI. But I’m okay with that because nearly everything else is top notch or just plain satisfying.

Seems like the consensus is that part 2 isn’t some massive disappointment so I’m good with that!

Christ, what a fucking stupid game.
I think you’re supposed to think she left because her actions alienated her from her friends and then got them all killed. Lev is just her chance for some sort of redemption and since everything is falling apart anyway and her revenge did nothing for her, why not take a new path. Get out like Owen wanted too. As for the time spawn, well the game is hardly the first to have a time spawn that seems a bit compressed.

So yeah I don’t see what was stupid about it.

She

didn't like the Wolves since the early flashbacks, tbh.
She was basically following them with revenge in mind the whole time, so once that was done, she had little reason to follow them anymore.
But we've had this discussion before, don't want to get into it again.  :lol

Human encounters in LoU2 are great, fluid movement+fantastic AI make for fun moments.
Infected though are still quite boring and monotone.

They have a couple of "classes", but they should diversify way more.

Best in when they mix it up though, and you can bait the humans to the zombies  :rejoice

That isn't true. That's not what is shown in the game at all.

On day 2 when she goes to get Owen she literally tells him she can get him in their good graces again. Man, that sure sounds like someone that doesn't like the WLF. Or maybe we were supposed to get that she didn't care about it when she kept telling Owen how she wants to go back to the training in the flashback.

Literally watched through 10 hours of cutscenes to see if I was wrong. It's like you like the game for the game you made up in your head. Not the game that was on the screen in front of you.

I hate the game even more now.

Turns out it was because of Isaac (The leader of the WLF) she actually got to get her revenge in the first place. Meaning she'd have even less reason to turn on them.

I admit i don't like the game as much you have a hate-boner for it.  :kobeyuck
Which i don't get because it's at worst a competent game with a shitty story, at best a technical masterpiece with occasionally intense story beats.
I don't think LoU2 has a great story at all, i said i think it had more interesting elements than LoU1, which was clichè after clichè beginning to end.
But that doesn't mean i love its story, i said already how much i found the religious cult thing ridiculous comicbook trash, and to a degree even the military factions too (despite  all working well for the gameplay which i found excellent).

Anyway i'll explain my take better: She's with the WLF exactly because of her obsession for revenge, they (the Salt Lake Crew) are her "family" because the bond with her past, not WLF.
She's shown to have an obsession for gaining power and revenge even through her body transformation, after the trauma, and this things consumes her, ruins her relationship etc etc.
she followers the WLF because she brainwashed herself with the idea of violent revenge that, the game tells you over and over, eats you from the inside (as well as any other piece of media in the World about revenge).

Her running away with the kids isn't her turning on her friends for some strangers, it's her turning on her own toxic obsession, and it's not a coincidence that she runs away with two kids who are running from the exact same thing (from the other side of the fence).

But please don't waste any more time behind this game my dude, doesn't sound healthy.  :doge

Eh, I find the discussion fun.
