Dante is so good, god damn. I just did his trials and his moveset and combo potential is completely distinguished mentally-challenged. It's like I'm really playing DMC5.

he has so many fucking moves, it's insane.

I really like X-23 too, but she is just too fast for me. My hand was starting to cramp by the time I got done with her 9th trial, I didn't even bother attempting her final one.

that last sentence seals it i am buying this shit

:lol well that was a bit of a joke, but his move set is pretty massive. He's basically DMC3 Dante except tailored for a fighting game (so he has fireball/dragon punch/mashing inputs for his special moves).

How do you guys use Arthur? His lack of dash throws me off.

Whenever I play him, I just use him like Dhalsim. Throw tons of projectiles to zone people out and make them mad. I don't really know what I'm doing with him though :lol

I'm starting to like this game more than MvC2. I know it's early, but MvC2 is my favorite fighting game. I'm using so many characters in this game, and loving just about every one too. Every time I think I've got my team covered (for now), I try someone else and fall in love with them. I think the roster is amazingly good.

At a distance treat him as you would in a G&G game. Daggers and lances are great againt most projectiles. Fire bottles can set up an easy Super trap.

Midscreen it's mostly about poking with your lance and using your sword. Once you hit the opponent with the sword swipe, dose'em with fire and use the goddess bracelet.

With jumping in his M attack provdes a nice downward angle hit  and combo setup. His jumping H attack is a decent anti air. Jumping L attack provides with a nice crossup. Upclose, his L attack come out fairly quick but has a very short range. Ducking M attack into a combo is usually your best bet for openings.

Also is Goddess Bracelet is good for getting in close or getting away and has a very quick recovery. His 3 level fire dragon comes out quick and seems to cover the whole screen. When using the Gold Armor just use it until there's a 3rd of a meter left and just switch Arthur out as a powered up Assist.

Played a few rounds against Himu, it was far from smooth, but waaaay better than last night's online matches, especially considering the distance.

I'm really liking X23 and Doom, but I still haven't decided on my third character. I tried Chris, but he didn't click, Chun Li wasn't either. I'm digging Skrull though, but I'm not sure if he fits the team. I wish I was better with Arthur, I need a pure keep away character.

Go with Skrull, Khan. Your Skrull was awesome.

I was having trouble with your team. X-23 is fucking fast. Also, I could barely do a thing with that lag. :(

I hate you for calling Captain America average. I really like him.

I've decided to settle for Zero/Deadpool/Cap as my team for now.

Haha, I haven't tried him myself but they say he's the Ryu of the Marvel side.

And Skrull is awesome. I'm gonna do their challenges just to pin down the basics.

Btw, your snapbacks were hella annoying! First time I played someone employing them right.

Edit: Speaking of fast, Wong was maining Wolverine in the stream and I think he just proved to everyone that he's god-tier in this game. So fucking sick.

so Wong won the MvC3 tourney... no surprise. It was fun to watch though, but it really showed how completely stupid X-Factor is. MvC3 is already a high damage game, there's really reason for X-Factor to exist - especially at level 3. I hope Capcom nerfs it into oblivion.

The tournament was awesome to watch. XF level 3 definitely needs a nerf though, but if this tourney did anything it was to justify the XF, at least in theory. Top players were playing the game right and XF did not work against them, they were using it offensively and defensively really well. One of the main concerns people had was the fear that it would allow random people into the finals becuase of how unpredictable, random, and unfair it was, but that didn't happen today. Watching lvl3 XF characters (especially Sent) getting beat up was really satisfying and sent a nice message, imo. People getting the grips of tw game and being this good only days after it was released is really exciting, and I can't wait for EVO.

Marn got eliminated in the tourney by some guy using X-factor level 3, then he got on the mic and said MvC3 is pretty much the worst game ever created. Salt-Factor :teehee

Dude got beat up by Wong himself, fair and square. He grabbed the mic and bitched about Wong saying that there is no way to beat him, especially since he's been practicing for almost a week, way before Wong, but still couldn't win. He was considering ending his career after being demoralized by the defeat lol.

Ironically Justin Wong calls MVC3 a casual game since it needs less skill or something than MVC2.

Those are old tweets, check his feed now. The guy started singing a different tune today, even before winning. But he admitted that MvC2 and 3 are totally different games, and should not be played the same way.

I think everyone should check the archived stream once it's up. It certainly gave me more hope for the game.

You get a chance to counter the air exchange by pressing the opposite direction + S.  Haven't messed with it but am I crazy or does that sound like something out of Dead or Alive?  If you're getting hit, there's nothing you can do anyway, so you may as well start mashing S while guessing directions?

also, Jwong to the world: "You're playing MVC3 wrong."  I got bored watching that stream because he was just making everyone look free as hell.  Some of those guys were clearly still playing SSFIV!

marn looks scary as fuck when he's pissed.  like serial killer scary :lol

Those bonuses are for performing the exchange combo, not countering it. Exchange counters happen when guess the direction your opponent pressed+S, in order to do that you have to focus on the direction he's knocking you to; if he knocks you upwards press up+S, downwards press down+S, etc. I'm not sure though if you get any meter bonuses for countering exchanges though.

I know you don't get bonuses for countering, but the countering itself-- seems like some rock-paper-scissors stuff ala DOA.

Yeah, but they shouldn't be blind guesses if you're careful and quick enough. Either way the meter bonus is pretty sweet, gaining two full bars after a successful 3-char exchange combo is priceless. I know I'll always be mashing down+S as a counter, just to be safe.

I'm trying to find a suitable third person in a team made up of Deadpool and Hsien-Ko. I can't think of anyone. The whole point of this team is to put pressure on the other side, forcing them into defense, so I'm thinking maybe Dante.

I read somewhere (SRK, I think) that rolling the stick and mashing S nets you an exchange counter about a third of the time.

You mean like 33% of the time? same chances I get when I try to guess which of the three directions I should counter? :P

Just like DOA!  You have a 25% chance of guessing right in DOA4.  But it's probably more difficult in MVC3 since it's in the air and in the heat of a combo.  It's also not as damaging or game-changing as doa.

I agree, love how they handled meter in this game.  Doesn't feel like Street Fighter where meter is kind of sacred and should be used sparingly.  Instead, it's like "I'll throw 3 supers in a row at you for the chip damage only. whateva, I do what I want!"

In the middle of an air combo, you can press a direction and S to swap in a teammate to continue the combo.  During this, if your opponent guesses the direction you chose and presses S at the same time, it counters the exchange and puts you both on the ground at opposite ends of the screen.

Ryu is pretty bad.  Akuma makes him redundant.  Will be pissed if Ken or other shotos are DLC, unless they're seriously buffed. Ken needs fire on every attack and a teleport.

It should be less.  It's more likely your opponent will most often go with down, then left or right, and up the least amount of times (unless they really want that exchange at the sacrifice of a chance at significant meter gain), so you're better off making the educated guess.

I don't input any directions when doing those exchanges, though. It's usually a typical air combo and finish it with S and my guys tap out.

If you do a neutral S, it ends the combo with a ground slam. You must be touching a direction and not realizing it.

Holy shit. My team of Deadpool, Taskmaster, and Hsien-Ko is FUN. Taskmaster's assist really helps out with Hsien-Ko, who has a wonky dash. If I use Taskmaster's arrow assist and then Hsien-Ko's senpu bu, it puts so much pressure on them. Combine with Deadpool + Hsien's senpu bu assist and this is one good offensive team.

I'll just stick with up the whole time and only bust out down randomly after training the guy with a bunch of up exchanges, even letting him counter a few.

I am still pretty terrible at the game, admittedly.  I can rock the training mode, but don't know enough about the game to deal with even the most basic projectile spam, random HCs and spazzy rushdown, and that sort of crap isn't exactly improving my game at all.  My training mode skillz topple in the face of spazz.  I fear it will break me before I get that far.

Gonna try to watch a bunch of videos today and hopefully pick up some fundamentals I must be missing.  Anybody got a secret cache of tapes they're holding out on?

WHAT is Mana talking about? Most people I've been playing online are like me: figuring out our team and how the game flow works.

Today I fought a dude who had Phoenix but put Phoenix FIRST in his line up and I raped his face almost every other fight. Even with low health he'd come back with that Phoenix and never once busted out Dark Phoenix. And there was one fight where he killed all my guys except Taskmaster and I somehow managed to bounce back and win without using XF.

Felt SOOOO good.

Also, I fought one guy for two fights. Whew! We were doing exchange combos and trapping each other and playing mind games and every thing. AMAZING fights.

Gonna do more missions before I really dive into online though. I like most of the characters in this game honestly. It's just a fun game to play no matter who you use.

I've put in almost 140 fights in so far and I've maybe fought 4 sentinals, even less Phoenixes, and not that many Skrulls. Most of the people I've fought against have been pretty diverse. The only character I don't think I've faced so far is MODOK. Poor little head could use some lovin.

They have the game at work in the break room...I had just enough time to play a match before my lunch break was over.  Dude had the damage set to lowest, so for the sake of time I put it back on normal (I don't like changing the default settings anyway)...using the half-broken, abused PS3 pads they have there was like a handicap.  The guy used Wolverine/Zero/Dante and ended up taking out my Storm and Hulk, but with solely Arthur left, I used X-Factor and came back for the win.  And I said "Good game...this game SUCKS...it's so cheap!" on the way out.  I think I was only half-kidding.   :lol  It's such a spam-fest.
