Capcom is begginng to do exactly what made the fighting game genre become niche to begin with: re-issues, upgraded versions just to make a buck, repetitive cast syndrome (Oni + Evil Ryu).

Fucking bullshit.

They are milking this well dry if Super Marvel vs Capcom 3 is true.

I have mixed feelings regarding this.  I love MvC3's gameplay and play the shit out of it whenever I can, but it's only been out for 5 months at this point - 9 months by the time Ultimate comes out - and Capcom have made zero attempt to ameliorate any of that game's outstanding issues, including its broken, masochistic online play.  They've released limited patches with questionable changes and never followed through with any of the planned DLC updates (unless by that, they meant Shadow Battles :yuck).  Rather, we're asked to shell out $40 for a disc release to "fix" their half-assed, skeletal original product.

On the other hand, it seems like an awful lot of new content and MvC3 was already in need of some heavy reworking of its systems (yes, I mean X-factor).  And I am a chump and will swallow that hot Capcum without a second thought.

Total ripoff (original game = 36 characters for $60; new game = 12 characters for = $40, shouldn't it be 24 characters or $20?)

Might buy anyhow since it has Strider.  You KNOW they held him back on purpose just to get all the Strider fans to double dip.

Capcom was charging $5/DLC character.  You are getting $20 in savings!  :dur

I haven't touched MvC3 in months myself.  Just play SSF4 and MK now.

You're forgetting those two DLC $5 characters, who are sure to still be DLC-only in UMvC3 too!

You're also leaving out all the additional content/system changes/online overhaul that this is getting.

MvC3 was clearly rushed out the door to meet that certain release window.  I wish this was coming as DLC like Arcade Edition did, but Ultimate is likely gonna have a completely reworked online system, so fine.

Although KOF XIII will be out before this game hits.  So I dunno how much I am gonna care.

Yeah, great, another short shit wonky hitbox character.  :-\

I'm actually anticipating the changes to existing characters more than the new ones.  At this stage in the game, the tournament-viable cast has dwindled down pretty significantly -- I'd call it at roughly half on a glance (which still isn't THAT bad and probably more a factor of popularity than potential) -- so it'll be interesting to see what they try to do to balance out some of those less popular characters.

that's not a real comic book! it isn't right?

Quote
An unnamed assassin was marked for death after his part in a failed political coup. After blowing up a squad of enemy soldiers, he decides to run for his life. Passed out in the snow after four days of fleeing, he was rescued by a troop of Japanese Macaques. The monkeys allowed the assassin into their clan, with the exception of a lone monkey. The man knew that he would be hunted so he trained daily. Quietly, the monkey that distrusted him watched, and eventually picked up on the fighter's skills. The assassin's health began to fail, and as the tribe of monkeys tried to save him, the lone monkey objected, eventually fighting the rest of the group with his new found skills. Because of the violence he displayed, the monkey was banished from his clan. However, on his own, he saw a group of men on their way to kill the assassin. He tried to run back and warn his tribe, but it was too late - the assassin had been killed as well as the rest of the monkeys. Furious at his clan's slaughter, the monkey picked up extra guns from a bag and proceeded to kill the entire group of men. Determined to avenge his fallen tribe, the monkey now dedicated his life to killing assassins - under the alias of Hit-Monkey.

Based on the videos, they've definitely added mid-air activation to X-factor, so I'm assuming it was nerfed in other ways.  People have suggested that it may be that they completely removed the damage buff, and instead it only resets the damage scaling (a la the DHC glitch, which has hopefully been removed), which sounds like a good compromise, however it would greatly reduce its effectiveness as a comeback mechanic.

Some people have noticed that exchanges have been reworked as well, but I'm not fully clear on the changes.  Hopefully it no longer involves mashing S to counter.

Whatever. All I need to know before buying this is if they 1. nerfed Wolverine 2. nerfed Phoenix and 3. fixed X-factor. I'm sure the nerfs are coming, but the biggest thing that needs to be changed is X-factor.

Apparently I AM missing something: the glitches people have been abusing for some time. Now I'm aware of the DHC reset glitch, but the I was referring to is the exchange glitch? What's that supposed to be?

Someone just do me a favor and list all the infamous ones, I'm probably missing more.

Miscellaneous notes from fLoE and others via eventhubs:

Quote

• You can now X-factor in the air.

• Phoenix can only have one action per jump... meaning one fireball then she floats down.

• Characters now say something upon entering the screen when the previous character died.

• Many of the returning cast has new moves, or moves that act differently, (Ryu's Hyper Fireball now bounces off of walls, Taskmaster and Spencer are shown with new moves.)

• Ghost Rider has at least 2 special moves that OTG, and his two level one supers appear to OTG. His level 3 super is a grab where he uses the Penance stare on you.

• Strider is the first character to have two level 3 supers, (Ragnarok, and the Ouroboros.) Most of his moveset from Marvel 2 was shown. His robot animal super OTGs.

• Firebrand's level 3 appears to summon a computer controlled doppleganger firebrand to assist.

• Hawkeye's level 3 super OTGs. He fires off Antman, who hits the opponent, then grows in size and gives the opponent the biggest Monty Python boot known to man. Hawkeye has different arrows he can fire depending on the button pressed (frozen shot, poison shot, piercing shot, triple arrow, scatter shot, and net shot are shown.)

• Wolverine's Berserker Slash is not invincible and slower.

• Viewtiful Joe has the "Slow Dodge" move now. It's a special move that's super cancellable. In the Viewtiful Joe games, if you activated Slow and you got attacked, you'd dodge.

• Magneto has a new special move where he sucks you in with magnetism. Gravitation magnetizes the opponent. Repulsion pushes them away. Attraction pulls them towards you. His air-to-ground dash is slower now.

• Akuma's Hurricane Kick Assist doesn't knock down anymore, the opponent will flip out.

• Ryu can charge up his fireballs and they fly so quickly you can barely see them on screen. Charging can be done by holding down the button, like in Street Fighter X Tekken. A fully charged fireball will explode on contact, causing a wall bounce. He can also charge his Shoryuken now. Ryu can cancel his overhead with special moves now.

• Taskmaster has a new move called the Charge Sting. It impales the opponent, can combo into it. It appears that he can grab after his Charging Star move now.

• Dormammu's Flame Carpet OTG now pushes the opponent very far away. Much harder to combo from, even with an assist.

• Wolverine has a new move where he does a bunch of slices at close range, with the odd shoutout to "Swiss cheese." This attack is similar to Chun-Li's lightning legs, except it's with his claws.

• Storm has a move that pulls in the enemy and pushes them away with wind.

In the Gamespot Seth interview from yesterday, he mentions that X-Factor bonuses have been reduced, as well as normalized from character to character.

Starts at 1:50

Also: updated fLOE's notes...

Quote
General stuff - Seth said factor was weakened, but it pretty much felt the same to me. Im sure its definitely tweaked in numbers but characters still died very fast with it on. The assist character life bars are not as difficult to see as it looks like in videos. Its not as easy as regular mvc3 but the change of how xfactor looks and the main character is worth the trade off imo.
When you x-factor your character goes into like a shadow mode rather then just glowing red. Im not totally sure but the game felt a little slower. Or jumps are slower in general or something, Im not totally sure but basic Dormammu combos seemed strange for no reason (?).
It also seems like the “invisible life” is gone and the full life bar is now shown (?).
The dhc glitch is gone.
The exchange glitch is gone.
Heres what i can remember for characters i played and/or saw (if theres a (?) next to something it means its an assumption and don’t take it as fact.
Akuma – Tatsu assist doesn’t cause a soft knockdown anymore you flip out now.  Lv3 xfactor Light tatsu infinite doesn’t work anymore.
Arthur – seems like he has more life? really not sure tho (?). (Editor’s Note – Arthur’s air S makes him dive to the ground very quickly now, allowing him to combo easily)
Chun – Apparently has a new move but i didn’t see it.
Ryu – 2 new moves that i saw, a charged fireball (qcf+s hold) that you can do on the ground or in the air and it wall bounces if it hits..its also invisible and just hits the opponent no matter where they are (on the ground) and charged srk (dp+s hold). Didn’t really see much use for this.
Wesker – Seemed like he had less health (?) .
Magneto – Disruptor MUCH slower, dashes seem slower, couldn’t do the old hypergrav infinite in the corner but i might have just been bad, but it felt different for sure i think fierce is slower or hypergrav comes out slower not sure. New move, cant remember if it was dp or reverse dp with any button, its whatever ISNT the counter, he basically puts like this magnetic field around you that pushes you in a direction. A version he sucks you into him, B version pushes you away, and C version sucks you to the ground. Seems REALLY good to make up for the stuff he lost.
Phoenix – she gets 1 action in the air now then she falls to the ground. I don’t know if she cant block during this state or if she just cant press a button. I doubt she cant block but its still nice that she can only throw one fireball now and cant run away with it.
She Hulk – relaunch combo seemed harder? but again i could have just been sucking (?).
Storm – New move dp/backwards dp with S. Gust of wind goes on the screen and either pushes you away (forward dp) or towards her (backwards dp). Its like magneto’s but worse.
Taskmaster – has a new move but i didn’t see it (Editor’s Note – it is a sword stab that ends in a gun shot, that currently can be seen at the end of his sword master skill chain)
Wolverine – berserker slash now much slower and not invincible. Can be hit very easily (Editor’s Note – Wolvie’s new move is called Swiss Cheese (he actually says it) and it looks like a mash move (think lightning legs).)
Strider – at first i hated him and thought he was terrible but as i played with him more i realized he’s REALLY good with the right assists and super fun. Strider/sent is basically mvc2 strider/sent but with mvc1 strider damage. The satellite disappears if you’re hit. He can otg with the bomb satellite so you can do regular air combo, tog bomb xx ragnarok and ragnarok does a TON.
I also think his air dash thingies have some kind of invincibility but im not sure how much and where it is. His keepaway game is also very good with dog/bird/satelite. He doesn’t have his ground teleport anymore, he only has 3. One that goes in the air infront, inback, and then the divekick one. He can attack after all of these and also after the airdash ones that go down/forward/up.
Orbs seems very good too but i didn’t try it much but the discs go extremely fast and it lasts for a very substantial amount of time.
Ghost Rider – he’s really weird i didn’t really get the hang of him today besides a run away strategy. His jumping s is very good does good damage and angles down/forward and goes full screen basically. His j.c is basically like ammy’s whip mode j.c where it covers a big circle. Actually now that i think about it he plays a lot like ammy in whip mode all together because he cant combo LMH like every other character, he has to do L M S for a combo.
His ground fire assist otg’s but is kinda slow. His forward whip assist seems pretty good because its fast and full screen. He also has 3 whip moves the A verson grabs you and puts you right next to him to be otg’d but all i could do was the ground fire into nothing. Maybe with an tog assist that will help him a lot. He definitely seems like a run away character.
Firebrand – would have liked to play much more with him but i was having so much fun with strider thats like what i focussed on the most. But he seems very good. He has 3 different angles to start his fly which can lead to interesting overheads/mixups. The best one seemed to be the B version which goes up/forward right above their head so its a pretty decent crossup. He also has a divekick type move d+c, but when someone was super-jumping at me and blocking it it would just bounce me back up and i could do it again. That happened 4 times so i would say that he could do that indefinitely. It might be a decent way to run away if it has good priority.

I know I will get this game.

And I know I will drop it like a rock once SFxTekken is out.  But maybe those changes will make MvC3...playable.  I got online last night and was just annihilated by garbage.  Can't wait to see the nonsense that comes from Dante (please fucking NERF HIM) AND Vergil together.   :-\

C. Viper is fun to use though.  People don't expect focus attacks!

I assumed the death of Megaman is Capcom's way of giving the finger to Inafune having left them.

who the fuck wanted vergil, the ryu to dante's ken? or nemesis when we have wesker? if you MUST add further stupid dmc/re characters, capcom, give us lady or uh, well, fuck the boring-ass re cast.

If I remember right, Vergil came pretty high in that poll Capcom did for DLC characters.  Not as high as Mega Man X, mind you, but even Capcom has to have some standards.

Vergil is a really good character.  In DMC3 SE his combat is completely different than Dante and his moveset is sick.  It makes a lot of sense for him to be in the game along with Dante.  Though yeah it should have been Lady instead of Trish; no one cares about Trish.  Then you could have the DMC3 team.

Nemesis is lolz, but oh well.  I guess they don't want any more members of stars beyond Chris, hence why Jill was transformed into a stupid wetsuit kicker; so not much else, though I think Tyrant would've been more badass than Nemesis.  Barry would have been great but yeah.

Honestly UMvC3 should have added support characters like MvC1 so they could throw in all these characters who aren't really worthy enough for a full fighting game character build, but it's fun seeing them hop in and shout something and attack.

The Mega Man thing sounds like it is being blown out of proportion.  MM9 and MM10 did well.

They canceled that LBP rip-off and the 3DS Legends game that nobody would have bought anyway.
