So I found an ad for a customer service position today. It had the usual job description: "Must be able to answer phones, handle billing, assist staff, etc." There was no link to send a resume, but there was a phone number to call.

So I called the phone number and got a receptionist. I asked about the job, and she told me they were hiring a phone sex operator. She asked if I could impersonate a female.

I thought this was pretty interesting. If this is commonplace, it seems like some of the guys calling those 900 numbers to hear girls talk dirty to them are actually rubbing one out to a man on the other end.

No, the whole point of this is to save money by not having to pay an ISF calibrator $300 to come out and personally calibrate your new set.

The idea is that by setting in the phosophers during the first 100 hours when they are prone to heavily change the EXACT same way as the pro settings guy; your tv will be 95% similar to his tv and if you apply his settings, you will get a 95% perfectly ISF calibrated set.  Then you just tweak slightly for the 5% that still differs because of lighting differences in where you have the tv and minor differences between the sets.

Whereas if you just watched tv for a while, your tvs would break in differently and his settings wouldn't be what fits your set and you'd need to pay an ISF calibrator to get near-perfect calibration.


I'm actually pretty big on calibration because I've seen the results over the years on multiple tvs before & after ISF calibration.  It makes the tv's 100x better; so if this is a way to get 95% perfect calibration without getting an ISF guy out...I'm willing to give it a shot.

don't listen to them, it does make a difference with your tv. the first thing i did with my plasma was put on chungking express and my eyes were nearly blinded from the baby bright phosphorus. i personally couldn't use the tv until 15 or so hours of break in, and even then, the colors were still way too strong. you can still use your tv during the break in process, just avoid all sd content and try not to watch too many movies back to back with wide aspect ratios, like the lord of the ring series. you'll achieve the same results without being one of the anal fucks who demands you do nothing but have the entire color spectrum play on your tv for 100 hours straight.

Why the hell are you guys getting so worked up about the TV? Wanting to get the best picture quality out of it after dropping a bunch of money on a nice set isn't abnormal. Sure he might take a few days but then he's got the most out of his TV for the rest of its lifespan.

Yeah, only the upgrade version. Also iirc 7 can be upgraded from either XP or Vista, so if you don't have Vista that's not necessarily a problem.

And it most likely violates the licensing agreement, but it's really easy to do a fresh install of Windows 7 with just the upgrade. You can actually just install it without activating and then immediately reinstall over that installation and it'll detect it as an upgrade. No idea if that's MS being generous or a really big oversight on their part.

I don't own a smartphone either.  I thought about using the points to get a Verizon iPhone 4 (since Verizon offers much better coverage in my area than AT&T) but the smartphone plans seem a little bit too much for what I want out of a phone.  Maybe someday but right now, I think the iPod Touch is sufficient for what I want.

You've got to unlock it or some shit, I always forget. It'll keep trying to just add all the music from your library. Click on whatever you named your iPod, and in the summary tab scroll down and click "manually manage music/videos"

Never had a problem with iTunes. Set it to manual add, no problem. Zune software froze when I had it on auto add. All mp3 software is in some way flawed.

It's getting hung up on determining gapless playback information.  I do not care about this feature at all but apparently there is no way to turn this off.  So I'm going to have to move all my music to another folder (I can't stop the process, it starts it up automatically) and just add stuff in manually.

It's very frustrating, considering that I just wanted to listen to a couple of fucking songs to see how it works.  It is insane that I've been messing around with the thing for 7 hours and I still can't do what the product intended to do.
