He plays such bitch ball. At the end of the game he is literally just hunting for fouls rather than trying to make baskets. I find him impossible to root for.

There's actually a piece of new commentary in NBA2K20 where Chris Webber mentions that the Warriors don't play a full-on metric game, but what used to be known as "the passing game" on top of having great shooters, it's the Rockets who play the insufferable full-on metric style and he stops himself just before saying Harden is impossible to enjoy. :lol

Getting guys who shoot 85+% to the line a bunch has been old old metric ball going back to Rick Barry. Then Utah designed an entire offense for Adrian Dantley around this and his ability to post-up despite being 6-5, hell a lot of what Chuck did was based around similar stuff. It's why Chauncey Billups was one of the most efficient scorers of his era* despite a FG% of 39-42%, half his shots were FTs at near 90%. (Reggie, Magic and Bird probably don't get enough credit for propping up their scoring this way so often when their shooting was otherwise off.)

*
Quote from: old Bill Simmons column, the argument started months earlier with him criticizing Billups as useless on offense
Q: Why won't you understand shooting percentages? 33 percent from beyond the arc is the equivalent of 50 percent from within. If a guy shot 50 percent from the field, would you be killing him for shooting? Of course not. You obviously realize how stupid that would be. Yet that's what you've been doing -- FOR YEARS -- with your mind-boggling argument against 3-point shooting unless the guy can hit 75 percent of his 3s. Just think about it for a couple of seconds. Please ... we are begging you.
-- Nick, New York

SG: Dozens of readers e-mailed me Nick's same stupid argument in a similarly condescending way, which is what makes the following so much fun: I'm not stupid, YOU'RE STUPID. That 33/50 logic only makes sense in a professional basketball league in which they aren't calling fouls and you aren't allowed to pass to a teammate ... which, as far as I can tell, doesn't currently exist.

Let's say that one player attempts 12 3-pointers and makes four (for 12 points). His teammate attempts 12 2-pointers and makes six, but during that time -- because he's not standing 25 feet away jacking up 3s like an idiot -- he also draws three fouls on his defender, creates two assists for teammates, makes three of four free throws, turns the ball over once, and misses one layup that gets tapped in by a teammate (we'll call it 19 points). You're telling me those two scenarios are equal? If I'm playing LeBron (a 31 percent 3-point shooter), ideally, I want him jacking up contested 3s because that means (A) he's not getting to the line, (B) he's not getting my guys in foul trouble, and (C) he's not potentially creating shots for someone else. I can't defend LeBron when he's going to the basket, especially if he's getting calls. But you know what? If he's happy shooting 3s from 25 feet with a hand in his face, then I'm delighted. This is great. I want him to do that. And if he's doing something that the other team WANTS him to do, then he's doing the wrong thing. I'm fine with shooting 24-footers over 20-footers, but getting into the paint will always be more valuable than jacking up 3s. It's just a fact.

(Note to Nick and everyone else who mailed me the 33/50 argument: I'm doing the Dikembe finger wave at you. Don't come into my house.)

The thing about Harden isn't that he does things that no other player does. Any superstar or player worth his salt has his own bag of dirty tricks and moves to play the margins. Normally you kind of respect that stuff because its shows a smart dedication to the craft.

But Harden has COMPLETELY crafted his game around this kind of stuff. And its not like he's 40 or something and needs every cheating edge he can get. I remember when everybody got all outraged about flopping a few years ago. ( I didn't personally.) But flopping is no worse or different than everything Harden does to sell every single one of his drives.

People wanted to clown the Clippers for losing to the Suns, but it turns out the Suns are a functional NBA team this year. Unlike the Warriors.

Also Clippers gave Kawhi the night off for load management and they're getting crushed by the Jazz.

Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry suffered a broken left hand in Wednesday's game against the Phoenix Suns after a hard fall.

The play happened with 8:31 left in the third quarter when Curry drove to the rim and collided with Suns big man Aron Baynes, who attempted to take a charge and ended up falling on top of Curry's hand.

Thinking how roster management like this wouldn't be an issue for baseball or football. At least people understand that aspect of the game. Coming down to the conclusion that basketball probably either needs expanded rosters or cut back on games.

People are idiots in general in any sport. Load Management or whatever term you want to call it has been around for awhile now with the Spurs and Kawhi is just the most high profile example of it. Basketball has a segment of knucklehead fans who always talk about the "good old days" when basketball was full of hard fouls, no 3's and whatever other piece of nostalgia they can pull up. It's not going to stop people from doing it. The neanderthal fan type will always have something to complain about.

One sort of interesting recent thing in baseball that is related, when they changed the DL from 15 days to 10, teams started putting some of their more fragile pitchers on the DL with fake injuries. That way they could rest them for two weeks and not have to eat a roster spot.

that game was wild. i had it playing on my computer screen on mute and couldn't stop glancing over while watching the nats game.

despite being 1-4, i still believe we are going to be sneaky good with troy brown jr back in the lineup and once isaiah thomas takes over the starting gig pushing ish smith completely out of the lineup
