Why do people care about the CE? It's pathetic...

:drool

Don't you have a Frys in Atlanta? Maybe they'll honor the $49.99 price. :lol

There's two stores here, but both are far enough away that I wouldn't want to bother driving out to see if they'd honor the price.  Best Buy is right down the road from me.

Quote
The CE doesn't interest me. A digital download of a strategy guide that I'll never read. A digital download of a soundtrack I'll never listen to, and a tin case that will just take up too much space.

Oh, digital stuff?  Eh, interest diminished then.

The OST and guide are digital, but there's also a (fairly small) hardcover artbook inside the case. It's not as nice as the Demon's Souls LE, but that one also cost $10 more. I'm not gonna complain about a free LE that comes with everything I would want out of an LE.

what's the difference then? just some added digital goods and a different slip cover? maybe there is one of them thin metal casings nerds love so much involved...

My LE is coming with physical soundtrack CD, making of DVD and the artbook as well as a digital game guide.... That's pretty sweet imo, a simple LE for sure, but it's more of a pre-order online bonus since it's the same price

Just got my Demon's Souls platinum trophy. My soul is ready for DS2.

Is the guide just a PDF file or something?

I haven't downloaded it yet, but gamefaqs says it's a 46 page PDF. I guess it's just a preview of the full strategy they're going to be selling.

I seriously don't get the appeal of these games.  I tried Demon's Souls...hell I bought Demon's Souls....but found it to be unbearable.   And now looking at videos of Dark Souls and reading the reviews, this looks to be even worse.  It's like the developer's are shoving their fist in your ass.

I don't know.  I just don't have the time or patience for stuff like this anymore.

Listening to Giant Bombcast earlier and that's one of the dudes sentiments on the game. Oddly I rebounded from death rather easily in Demon's Souls. Maybe I was just more accustomed to that sort of game play.

Started playing this.  It's AWESOME.

Couldn't be happier (well I guess I could be happier if they still had a blind chick you had to talk to for leveling up; but you can't have everything).  I'm so glad they've kept 95% of the gameplay systems.  I'm playing as a sorcerer and I feel right at home like playing my old DS royal.  The addition of JUMPING is going to add a lot of secret areas to this one, which is cool.

Once I started exploring, it was that same old Demon Souls feeling where I'm like JUST ONE MORE ROOM.  I WANT TO SEE WHAT'S BEHIND THE NEXT DOOR.  It's so fun exploring and getting all the loot and souls.

Framerate has problems on PS3, but it's surviveable.

Just started this (as a Bandit I think, whoever has the axe and high strength)... I didn't know where to go at the start, so I spent like 30 minutes trying to fight my way through the skeletons by the Catacombs. Needless to say I got my ass kicked a few times, but I did manage to collect all of the loot in area at least. Now that I have found the correct path with low level enemies, it should be smooth sailing.

Also, the Pyromancer does seem like the best class to start with since he begins at level 1. Kinda weird since he still has decent stats.

Protip for Demon's Souls players who think the lock-on is broken:

Quote from: Yuterald
Double tap the stick in the direction of the new enemy you want to lock-on to. I felt the same way. I thought the lock-on was busted at first too. You just have to double tap instead of flicking it once like it was in Demon's Souls.

I'm guessing they felt like it was too east/obnoxious to lose your place by flicking it once. I'm probably wrong, but I don't know how else you could justify this decision, lol!

I don't like this, but I guess I'll get used to it. It would be nice if they patch in the option to make the lock-on exactly like DS1, since it was perfectly fine as-is.

I was wondering how to change targets last night.  Double-tap on the stick is kind of dumb.

Started with wanderer, since the stats seemed the most balanced.  Been grinding around that one campfire by the bridge where the guys lob firebombs at you, seems like all that stuff that one merchant has (past the two spear guys) is useful, so I'm buying all of it.

I've also sold off my other disc based games because I'm going to play this forever.  GOW3 Season Pass wasted :'(

P.S. For what it's worth, people are saying the guide sucks, but is very pretty.  From what I understand, maps are at the back, enemy descriptions up front, everything jumbled around, so you can't really play and read along in order, like a walkthrough.  also, the game is vertically stacked and supposedly the guide doesn't have maps for underground areas?

anyway, if you complain to amazon chat, you can get a $10 promo for the delay.  Then cancel it and use the wiki.

My collector's edition order got fucked up too. been stuck on "shipping soon" for a few days.

Actually you don't have to double tap to cycle lock-ons, you have to point toward the next guy you want to target. Still prefer the Demon's Souls method of cycling through them with left and right.

Yeah, I thought I had the menu up and I hit R1 and struck him. :duh  I already beat the first "boss" on the castle wall, but if I need arrows or firebombs for anything before the next merchant, I'm gonna be fucked.  There's another guy in the subterranean area near the beginning that does repairs, so if I really need it, I can always run back.

It's too easy to get lost in this game, especially since you don't have a map (or I haven't found it anyway). Open worlds :-\

Took me a while to figure out that you have to check the descriptions of the keys you find in order to see where they're used. Spent like 45 minutes wandering around before figuring out I had to open a door at the start of the area I was in in order to proceed.

Fell down a hole and landed on an army of the curse-frogs; got cursed and lost 50% of my health. FEELS BAD.

The second boss kills me in one hit in this state. And I barely do any damage to him :(

edit: Beat him. He's actually really easy once you know his weakness + his patterns. Still cursed though... gotta find the merchant so I can get rid of this shit.

True, but he still got cursed three times. :lol The curses are easy to avoid unless you fall into that one hole, then you're going to get gangbanged. I made sure to put a message before it so no one else has to suffer.

edit: Wait a minute, apparently the curses don't stack. Either From changed it with one of their patches, or that review was wrong. You're always at half health no matter how many times you get cursed.

Still can't find the merchant either. I ran into her once before, but for the life of me I can't find her again. Ugh.

edit2: Finally found her, thank god. Time to move on to the next area. Hope I find another blacksmith soon as well, because my main weapon is about to break... and once a weapon breaks, it's gone for good (I think).

A hidden stairwell on the right of that area's entrance leads to an item called "Attract Skulls" or something like that, throw it into a nearby fire below the bridge, downward stab to victory. I used two skulls, but I'm sure it's possible with one.

game is fuckin amazing, played a couple of hours and am going through Undead Burg now.

Put it down to do some work now as I can tell this shit is CRACK

Game is challenging, but in a good way.

Nub question as I'm new to this series:

is there any point smashing all the crates and barrels? I'm doing it instinctively as it's what you do in games, I've just never found any items or anything in these crates in Dark Souls.

I'm using a Thief class, he's pretty good! every 2nd or 3rd shit is a critical so I be killin skeletons with ease

afaik, there isn't anything in barrels, but occasionally they'll be in front of a lootable body or chest.

What are the benefits of being Human?  I know it's the only way you can kindle bonfires and engage in the multiplayer, but is there anything else?  I'm hesitant to burn Humanity on it since I can't seem to hold onto it for very long anyway...

Argh, I found a Fire Keeper Soul and USED it thinking it would upgrade the Estus Flask (you know, like it says in the fucking description), but apparently you're supposed to take them to that woman in the cage near the beginning.  Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck

dont you just hold onto those humanity items and cash that shit in when you need to?

yeah I dunno, I are n00b

I can tell this game is gonna be beast as fuck though. It's good to play a real game with no hollywood bullshit and "Insane hardcore" difficulty level which is actually babby easy
