White Sign of Soapstone -- infinite use
Cracked Red Orb -- consumable (you can get a whole red eye orb in the Darkwraith covenant)
Black Eye Orb -- single use (used to retrieve a Fire Keeper's soul)
Dragon Eye -- infinite use
Dragon Head Stone -- infinite use
Black Separation Crystal -- never used it, but I would assume it's infinite use
Servant Roster -- infinite use; just an item that's for leaderboards or whatever

Also, you may know this already, but I wouldn't venture into the Tomb of Giants before getting the Sunlight Maggot helm from just before you fight the Bed of Chaos(?) boss in Lost Izalith.

Without that helmet I can see ToG being one of the most frustrating areas. With it, it's really not that bad.

i was farming a bit in undead burg and approaching the spot where you fight the demon with the archers behind when suddenly i got 10k souls.

Icono :heart

How did you guys reach the Black Sorcerer's Armor Set in Sen's Fortress?

I wiped the area clean except for that. The maps of the guide can get a little confusing thanks to the overlapping outlines.

That's right next to Big Hat's jail cell, behind the cell that can only be unlocked from the other side.

I got back there.  IIRC, I think you have to jump to that platform where there's a snakeman caster and a glowing item above the path where the boulders are running through.

That son of a bitch. I totally forgot about him. People were telling me "on the path leading to the Covetous Ring" and I kept thinking "Slumbering Dragoncrest Ring, got it!"

Thanks Robo.

I'm seriously considering that soul glitch now.  I calculated how many souls I'd need to accomplish my next mini-task, and it's roughly 350,000 souls.  Best case I could get 7k souls every minute, but more likely an hour or two of straight grindan.

I don't want to because I have no self control and I'd abuse it to soul level one million.

i think the red bridge dragon glitched and died  :lol

yeah, the dragon and a few other bosses glitch kill themselves.

Yeah, I didn't have much trouble with it. Did it on my first try, and that was before I started farming souls (I basically used his 25k souls to open the forest's gate).

I just reached Anor Londo. Some thoughts:

- This place is gorgeous.

- I'm destroying everything that gave my friend a tough time.

- Hallelujah, there's a gargoyle in here. I was able to get the shield and axe this time! :bow Zewi & Covetous Ring :bow2

Edit:

Both have horrible stats :lol

@Linkzg Re: Soul Glitch

I think I'm gonna cave in and do it too, not turn my character into a SSJ Pyro, but to raise the bottom line of my stats. I desperately need 8 points in Dex and Attunement at the moment, and since it takes around 30k to raise my char a single level, I basically need at least 480k to make that happen. :-\

But I think I'll wait a little until I hit a wall.

i guess my current dilemma is whether i should use the 25k to level up my weapons or open the door in the forest. what's in there anyway?

i'm still using the drake sword but i want to level something else up as it'll be a liability later on.

is it OK to just continually level a single weapon (IE the gargoyle halberd)?

yeah, same.  I really don't want to use it.

Pyromancy is really great.  I regret not purchasing iron flesh when I had the chance, but the attacks are strong and don't take away from stamina.  Two more levels before I hit endurance 40 and then I'll level up to get three slots, roll with some good pyro attacks in addition to my +5 lightning iaito.

I still need a good shield, but I'm just about where I want to be with equipment and everything.  I heard the moon butterfly shield is good.

go for the door.  you'll make back that 25k in five minutes.

I'd personally go with using the 25k souls to open the gate. From there you can easily farm it back by exploiting the weaksauce AI of 4 unique NPC to net 7k souls in under 1 minute, like this:

It'll be a great source for either raising your level to a pretty good range (before it stops being worthwhile) and to buy upgrade material, weapon upgrades, spells, etc. It's not nearly as game breaking as the Soul Glitch.

Re: Gargoyle Halberd upgrade...

I say upgrade until it starts requiring rarer, un-purchasable materials (so stick to shards, large shards too but only if you have to). Because obviously it won't take too long before you find a new weapon that is either more powerful or is more practical in use and controls.

the two on the ledge?

spoiler (click to show/hide)
run up and head for the guy on the right. if you run up they'll miss you until you're well up on the ledge with them and you'll only  have to roll through one arrow. lay into the archer as fast and hard as possible. if you get shot at more times you can attempt rolling sideways into the wall or forward into the archer.

should be doable with brute force. I had a good deal of endurance when I did it and the elite guard armor (>50% equip). no shield blocking though, since the stun is so long you end up having to block another attack, and another, and another, etc. a couple of pokes from my upgraded winged spear let me past him pretty quickly. I bet the drake sword is good enough too if you have that

My second try was basically trying to overpower the arrows with heavy armor. So I went with the Stone Knight set, the Wolf Ring, and the Iron Flesh pyromancy... still knocked me good.

Rushing at them seem doable. I almost reached the one at the right on my first try, but panicked and missed an attack. But I'm gonna go with poison since I'm already halfway there :-\

I'm so fucking tired of combusting. I leveled my glove up to +10 and am currently trying to combust my way through the anor londo boss, but the fucking move is so fucking slow I'm going to stab my dick if I can't get through this part soon. so slow on start up, and an assload of recovery. and holy shit if you cued up another combustion after it from hammering on the button you can't even cancel dodge inbetween to override the second combustion.

Took my first trip down to Blighttown.

First impression: Lots of fall-to-death and enemies with sizable knockback. Plus, their weapons are covered in poop, so you either get poison'd or toxic'd.  :'(

Spider Shield is helping with the blow-darts, but otherwise I'd be blowing through my backlog of Purple Moss like no-one's business.

Framerate is unhappy-making, but not yet as bad as everyone here made it out to be. I'll probably recant this judgment the first time I get mobbed and die from delayed framerate input.

Got my 1000/1000. Getting kinda bored, so I'm gonna take a break from this for a while, at least until 1.04 hits. It was great while it lasted anyway, would be GOTY for sure if it weren't for Akai Katana. Hope it does well enough for a sequel in a year or two.

while it's a bitch to get to, the area on tomb before the boss is great for humanity and general grindan.  those little skeletons spawn endlessly and regularly drop humanity pick ups, plus each is like 300 souls and you take them out five at a time every few seconds.

After my first three deaths in Blighttown without getting to the bonfire, I gave up and decided to burn Humanity and kindle the Depths' bonfire.

Fourth trip, realize I've walked away from the bonfire several times without noticing it.

:fbm

On one of those three trips, the 05 Humanity I'd banked was lost when I failed to Recover my previous pyre.  :maf

OTOH, Toxic Dart Bitch in the Rafters managed to fall off and kill itself, so I'm kind of happy about that.

In order to join the Sun covenant, you need to either have 50 faith, or you need to do a bunch of co-op. Each time you join someone's game as a phantom and help them kill a boss, the faith requirement drops by 5. So if you're not going to be putting points into faith, try to get summoned for co-op as much as you can at the early levels where there's still a lot of activity.

Make sure you collect as many Eyes of Death, Sun Medals, and Souvenirs of Reprisal as you can in each playthrough. You need 10 each.

Rhea's shop is easy to miss, and she sells miracles. After you
spoiler (click to show/hide)
rescue her in the Tomb of Giants, go back to Firelink and then take the elevator up into the Undead Parish to find her shop. If you visit too many areas before reaching her shop, Petrus will kill her.
[close]

Don't kill the Duke's Archive boss before rescuing Big Hat Logan and buying his spells.

After you max out a weapon and get the achievement for it, do not hit B to back out of the menu - you can turn your console off to avoid the autosave, and you'll still have your Slab to ascend another weapon.

If you have the Master Key, you can skip The Depths (including the boss), the sewers, and almost all of Blighttown. Pretty handy if you just want to plow through the game as quickly as possible (like in the third playthrough).

And this is totally optional, but it seems like you can only complete Solaire's questline on your first playthrough. I'm not 100% sure, but I think it's bugged and impossible to complete on all subsequent runs.

Probably some other stuff I'm forgetting, but that's all of the achievement-related things I can of off the top of my head.

But in my defense I only raised STR and END to 50-something, while the rest hover in the 20s.

I'm officially on break from this game. I'm going to play its polar opposite: ENSLAVED Journey to the Auto-Combat.

I like Dark Souls plenty, but I am feeling too much like I'm trying to catch up to the rest of where you guys are, and playing feels like a second job right now. I'm just going to put my brain on auto-pilot and finish something else. Hopefully I'll come back to it.

Also, the enemies in the archives are total asshats. the annoying magicians become invincible the second they initiate their teleport? fuck y'all. I don't even know what their little jig is supposed to do, but even if it doesn't have any tangible effect it pisses me off to no end.

he's imitating an npc that stands there once you join the cat covenant

Does this game have a good story?
eh. the story is enjoyable imo, but it's spartan as fuck. The intro CGI make up the majority of the story you are fed throughout the first forty or so hours. The rest is what you patch together from random, optional dialog from NPCs. I wouldn't buy it for a story, but there is one there. I think.

currently at the dynamic boss duo at Anor Londo. I do good damage, but they do more and I'm having a hard time keeping an eye out for the lanky cunt while focusing on the fattie since I need to get close to do any damage. Rocking havel's ring and the acrobat ring, lightning spear and pyromancer glove with combustion/power within.

Don't focus on the fatty unless you're a masochist or really want the skinny's soul.  If you get to the point where you beat the fatty first, you'll see exactly why.

I found it easiest to bring in an NPC summon to draw the fatty away while I focus on the skinny.  He'll probably die (which is a good thing; no sharing souls!), but if you can kill off the skinny, the next part isn't terribly hard to do solo.

so you can summon an NPC for that fight? I have not done ONE single summon yet. I have found all the other bosses manageable solo so have never needed to... Wheres the summon marker?

In the main room on the level with the fog door, its up one set of stairs on one of those platforms near the center of the room.  You need to be human to see the mark and summon, so be sure you have Humanity to spare and some sort of plan in mind.  Also, wait for the dude to get next to you before you run through the fog.  Sometimes he doesn't like to follow.

thanks! Will give that a try. My magic spells deal lots of damage to Smough and Ornstein, so I should be able to destroy them with a distraction.

is pvp supposed to be fixed in the patch? it's really unbearable now.  it's bad enough that everyone is super powerful online from the lame exploit, but it's so buggy that light players are basically fucked.  Dodging attacks is literally impossible when people teleport 50 feet and backstab you.

and I thought I was supposed to get the fog ring for killing people.  I was summoned and killed like 5 people.  guides mention only 2 need to die.

I think you need to reach covenant level 2, which may require killing more people or something.

have you checked in with the cat?

I've been trying my darndest to activate ANY kind of multi. I'm putting down my Dragon Eye hoping to invade peeps but it ain't happening. A shame this game isn't bulging with players like CoD or some shit

Smough and Ornstein were super easy with Knight Solaire helping out. He took all the hits while I stood back and cast spells.

Then went and did the Painted World. Best area of the game so far IMO, tons of sweet loot and a really creepy atmosphere.
