so... the Four Kings. are the required? i took care of The Bed of Chaos and Nito... just need to take care of Seath.

But will the game eventually tell me I need to fight the Four Kings? i would rather not.

And I've settled on my preferred build:

now just the final boss left. but i did some PVP in the darkroot garden. wearing Ornsteins full armour set I annhilated the fool.

you're basically set for the last boss. Four Kings are the biggest assholes in the game. The last boss is a little bitty baby compared to those evil demons in that hole. I died at least 30 times trying to beat those pricks during NG+

i'm prepping for NG+ by crafting weapons. got a lightning weapon, a fire weapon, a magic weapon, may try for a divine weapon for those damn skeletons. working towards a chaos weapon but i can't get any damn red titanite chunks to get it by fire +5. i hear the chaos bugs in the demon ruins will drop it but it's rare. so i got my item discovery to 410 and tried like 10 times... nothing but damn sunlight medals. may have to hold off on that.

also did some pvp. was trying to invade but that straight up didnt work. ended up GETTING invaded instead. luckily i managed to kill the fucker. then quickly quit the game as I'm not a fan of pressing me luck.

the black dragon DLC boss is a real bitch of a fight. the attacks themselves aren't too difficulty to avoid, the problem is how it will combo them together. You'll be blocking one attack and be out of stamina and then it will throw an attack at you that requires you to haul ass in the opposite direction.... but you're out of stamina! so you have low health and need estus but there aren't many times in the fight that you can pop one.

i don't doubt i can beat it, got real close earlier but got caught in a single mistake and the fight was over.

put on your heaviest armor. boost your poise as far as it can go and if you have havel's ring, put that on too.

then just run up and go to town.

Yeah, I jsut figured out that blocking and dodging was a waste of time on that fight. Iced those suckas with ease when I just started wailing on them and chugging Estus when necessary.

i do love that the game punishes you for attempting to use the same armour, same weapons, and same tactics for every boss.

for Four Kings I just tanked up and didn't give a fuck
for Ornstein and Smough I had to wear medium armour and do a combo of blocking, dodging.
for Kalameet I had to put on the lightest armour i had and just dodge all day. also had to switch to the gravelord sword as it was the best pure physical damage based weapon that has decent attack speed.

lol. Dark Souls is same thing. Grinding won't do you much good anyway.

Just roll another character on Demons Souls, pick the Royal, then use the Wiki and look at all the glitches and tricks to exploit.

You shouldn't have to grind in demons souls, I did near the endgame but if you're having problems with bosses check the wiki for help. Most are exploitable in some way

You don't have to pick Royal, but he starts out with the Fireball so you can sit from far away and peg away.

I beat the game starting as the Knight, I think. I used the wiki to see the exploits and tricks. Some of them are lol.

this only works if you don't fuck up your character at some point, which only happens if you look online for info.

Yeah, I was pretty scared when I first played deso so I picked royal and followed some guides. It's isn't hard to make a good build tho like some games, just pick a core damage stat and gouge it, and add stamina/vit and a few points to get baseline requirements for wielding the weapon u want.

ya i'm not looking online. i'm playing a wanderer and just boosting my falchon and i dumped a lot into str and luck but kept getting absolutely hosed in that storm level because i had no way of killing those flyers

If you're still stuck there, take a look around the area for the Storm Ruler sword (down the path towards the flying rays to the left iirc)

there's several bonfires in the tomb of the giants, just light that shit up. There is even a secret bonfire in the catacombs, just knock down that secret wall

there's a bonfire pretty close to nito and you can pretty safely run all the way from it to his boss fight without taking damage. took me about 5 tries or so to beat him but he's doable.

I find Dark Souls harder than Demon's now if only because the combat requires more skill. In Demon's, I was backstabbing, and gunning through stages like no one's business. Here, in Dark Souls, parrying requires keen timing, back stabs are tough to pull off (with my ranger character, I'm rerolling). The game almost feels like a Metroid or Metroidvania in that you're trying to find the best route with your current ability set. Went down into some underground cave and fought some ghosts, and holy shit. Amazing. Game rewards exploration in a way that Demon's didn't.

There are a couple of armor sets worth having, Havels has a couple of instances where it's useful. Nearer the beginning I use some combo of the Wizards and Elite Knight sets (get in the depths/darkroot respectively). But there's nothing super standout, it's more important to upgrade the stuff (whatever you choose) and keep your equip load below 50% (<25% even better)

Combat ain't harder, they play nearly identically.... Have you even played past the 2nd boss in DeSo yet?

Hmm, no wonder I was having trouble with parries. I turned motion blur off at the outset, and turning it back on, I'm having an easier time parrying due to the visual clue (attacks blur).

Getting used to combat again. I'm parrying most base attacks from normals now if I'm in the groove, which is nice, and I'm getting better. I was going for ringing the bell tonight but ended up getting slaughtered by Bell Gargoyle. This game does a far better job at making you feel weak and oppressed against all odds compared to Demon's Souls. Fantastic stuff.
