The only advantage is the same advantage they have always had... they're "good enough" and free.  You didn't really believe that happy horseshit about them rebuilding the entire network did you?

And they already lost you when they lost your customer data, remember?  I doubt they're worried, you'll come bouncing back happily after the next time something goes awry with your current beau.  You village bicycle, you.

I'd be feeling a lot more charitable towards Sony right now if Kaz Hirai hadn't outright admitted they were knowingly running server software with major security issues.  But knowing that?  I basically trusted them with the keys to my house and they left them on the table at the bar while they went and got a beer.

Across the street.

One big reason I'm so angry about this isn't so much about ps3 but also towards ngp. I was fully planning on purchasing most of my psp games off the psn so I could play them on ngp. Now, I don't even fucking know. You were right to not trust Sony. Not to mention my roommate and my info w

I wouldn't rely on this, see PS2 emulation on PS3. Not only was it removed, but it's simply not as good,  PS2 is FAR better at rendering PS2 games than PS3. Even Xbox to X360 emulation isn't perfect, though the hardware used was more standard. Isn't it also the case that DS games aren't as crisp or something when played on 3DS?

Oh that's cool. I was wondering about the whole 3DS -> DS emulation thing. Never owned a DS so a big part of having a 3DS would be getting to play DS games as well. I've played a couple DS games on my PC, but it's really lame not playing on a handheld.

i am playing DQ6 right now and i'm playing it on the DS - the main reason being that the 3DS battery life is absolute dogsh1t even when running DS games.

serious? I figured it'd run ds games well and 3ds games far worse. sigh. I was going to use it as my replacement ds.

I'm not too big on trusting any of these big companies with important shit, though obviously I have levels of trust.

Probably, I'd trust Steam the most, then MS, then Nintendo (cuz they don't really keep that much info at all, yay double-edged swords), then Sony (known to collect massive amounts of info on their customers, clearly don't keep up to date on security, and enjoy antagonizing hackers).

But realistically?  Nobody's getting my CC from here on out.  Because someone with enough talent and time could bust any of 'em, and after the profits this thing will generate for the hacker(s) that did it, these kinds of customer databases are going to look like fat delicious sheep for profiteering hackers.
So are you're going to stick with pre-paid cards, Oscar?

I haven't bought anything on PSN for a long while but when I decided to switch to cards, I was surprised to see that you can't use paypal to add funds to the wallet.  Don't know if the 360 is the same way.  Or Wii? last time I bought points on the wii, it asked for the county I was living in wtf.

XBL points are kinda awesome because you can buy point cards cheaper than the actual worth.

i charged the damn thing all night a few days ago and i got about 4 hours out of it. When the light went red i let out an audible "oh f*ck off!"

back on the white DS lite.

Don't get it as a replacement DS - the software situation is also garbage - there's more meat on an anorexics coq , so i would wait until 3DS-lite.

I found that it helped to turn down the screen brightness (from 5 to 3) and to turn off the wi-fi when I wasn't using it.

But yeah, I wouldn't buy a 3DS right now, unless you're like me and had to have SSF4 on the go.

there is a good bit coming for the 3DS this year, actually. not entirely original content or from third parties, but Zelda 64 and StarFox 64 remakes, Kid Icarus, Mario Kart and supposedly the new Mario game.  from third parties there is Resident Evil "we'll sell you this bonus mode for full price" and Mega Man "buy this demo"

there's games to play but the "new" stuff isn't that great (outside of Ghost Recon) and the outlook to the end of the year looks pretty sparse :/

All in all, seems they just wanted the 3DS out the door ASAP :(

Eh, I'm happy with SSF4, RR3D, SW Chronicles, and haven't even gotten around to Ghost Recon yet.  DOA is this month and there's RE The Mercenaries, what...in June?  Plus The OoT port.  But this really isn't the thread for this talk.

Well most of them have been ps3 owners since launch. So they've been through:

loss of bc
loss of linux (one of them used it)
and more

and then when this happened and they freaked out because their debit card info was on their ps3s they decided enough was enough, sold their systems, bought 360's and left me with marvel vs capcom 3 and ssf4 with no one to play with (we only played local and now they have no ps3 controllers, not to mention no online).

dagger to heart.

in fact, the only irl friend i know who has a ps3 AND a 360 is mupepe and he supposedly hasn't gotten rid of his ps3. but i'm talking about ps3 only owners -- most of which are black -- who decided to trade in for a 360. Not multiconsole owners.

Not the end of the world for Sony, but people are fickle these days(competition is strong, money is tight).

SOE seems to have problems

Dear valued SOE Customers,

We have had to take the SOE service down temporarily. In the course of our investigation into the intrusion into our systems we have discovered an issue that warrants enough concern for us to take the service down effective immediately. We will provide an update later today (Monday).

Quote
Dear Valued Sony Online Entertainment Customer:
Our ongoing investigation of illegal intrusions into Sony Online Entertainment systems has discovered that hackers may have obtained personal customer information from SOE systems.  We are today advising you that the personal information you provided us in connection with your SOE account may have been stolen in a cyber-attack.   Stolen information includes, to the extent you provided it to us, the following: name, address (city, state, zip, country), email address, gender, birthdate, phone number, login name and hashed password.

Customers outside the United States should be advised that we further discovered evidence that information from an outdated database from 2007 containing approximately 12,700 non-US customer credit or debit card numbers and expiration dates (but not credit card security codes) and about 10,700 direct debit records listing bank account numbers of certain customers in Germany, Austria, Netherlands and Spain may have also been obtained. We will be notifying each of those customers promptly.
