Turns out you can replace the battery.  Not on the fly, but if the battery ever dies or gets old you can open it up and replace it.

Yeah, I think we're going to find out that a lot of the stuff we think we can/can't do is incorrect as people actually get the systems and tinker with them.

There is no company in the world that has less of an idea of what their tech department is doing than Sony.

Update on the semi-region-locking situation, FWIW:

I asked Mr. Yoshida about the one-account thing and then clarified that I do indeed have multiple accounts.  Sequence of tweets after the initial ones:

Enjoy the graphics while you can, no high-level developer is going to spare the effort and budget for handheld games unless the Vita takes off in a major way or it's being funded directly by Sony.  Possibly you might get a few pretty-but-basic Infinity Blade-style games, idk.

so is Sony targeting the "hardcore" traditional base of gamers or are they trying to reel in the grandma crowd as well?

i want one, but I can just see this system being a clustfuck if they've got their crosshairs at anything that walks.

from watching the red sun stream and following some impressions, the interface alone seems like a barrier to entry for the masses. which is a good sign to me, since it may imply that they're moving toward a gamer-centric crowd for their target audience.

This system seems so sexy.  Makes the wait for the US release hard!

Where are my SHINOBIDO 2 impressions?  The first one was tenchu on speed.

The only negative thing I've heard so far from the launch is the sub-HD games which is always fucking scary because it sets a precedent.  Can't wait until PS4/X720 1080p systems where we still get 540p games because they figure the public won't notice.

The lack of impressions for the launch library really sucks.  People talk about Minna No Golf, Uncharted, and even Ridge Racer (AKA WHY DID YOU BUY THAT) and nothing else.  Guess we're gonna have to wait for importers to start getting systems this week.

ridge racer was awesome on the PS1 and then fell off and then picked up again with the PSP and then fell off again.  People (or at least just me) were hoping the Vita version would be the 'pick up' phase.  consensus is that it's worse than the 3DS version (?)

The problem with Ridge Racer is that it has essentially been the same game since Ridge Racer 6 in 2005.  Ridge Racers on PSP introduced the nitrous system and RR6 added to it.  RR7 was the same fucking game as RR6 with a few more tracks and no voice chat during online (wtf).  RR2 on PSP was also an expansion pack.  The iPhone RR was a shittier RR PSP with the same dumb BUY ALL THE TRACKS AND CARS Scamco DLC system.

RR 3D at least added to the game play with different types of nitrous systems added, plus muscle cars (although it's just a visual thing)...I see nothing new with RR Vita and the fact that it has framerate problems everywhere is just pathetic.  Namco released an unfinished game and then expects consumers to buy the rest of it as they finish it and put it on PSN.

If they're smart, Namco will use the extra two months they have until the U.S./Euro launch to FINISH THE GAME.  Nobody here is gonna shell out of for that shit if it releases as-is.

They actually were in 7, but good job on defending Nintendo ;P

(j/k about the Nintendo part).

My bad.  It's been too long since I played RR7.

Quote
I'm not defending the Vita version, because for now, the framerate is appalling, and it's still the same fucking gameplay, basically.

BUT, I do have to say, I'm glad they ditched the ridiculous GP setup they've had for the last FIVE games, where essentially you cruise through 10-15 hours of the game without any skills and then hit a wall where you have to start learning the tracks just to place in the top 3, THEN you get the cheap shitty bastards that are nigh on impossible to beat. At least the main core of this game is you versus other human ghosts. I just think the pricing is a little off :lol

Also, they should have actually started with new tracks to show they had the right intentions. Three recycled tracks is a fucking stupid way to launch a game, regardless of their intentions with the gameplay.

New tracks wouldn't make a difference when there's three of them.

I love me some Ridge Racer but there's no excuse for this shit.

nice impressions.

i kinda want one after a bit of launch research. i'm just a cheap bastard these days thanks to DD. not sure if it would get much use really. $40 goes a long way on steam, XBLA/PSN and iOS. it'd probably end up a portable JRPG player if anything.
