good lord they actually are

edit:
Vita is better than expected, but 3DS is only worse because the DS (and practically every Nintendo handheld) had exceptional battery life, often at the expense of performance.  Both are pretty shit.

Ugh, if they don't have async ready by Feb 22nd, I'll be pissed. This market needs to deliver on features promised since the first announcement on day 1 of release.

Should be getting my Vita tomorrow or Thursday!  :hyper

that test isn't rigt

if you run the 3ds at 40% brightness with the 3D off, wifi off and low/no sound it's actually got much BETTER battery life than the PSV running at 80% battery, with 3G on, and 50% volume. I believe the 3DS wins by a massive 3 minutes or so.

 :lol

Quote
I had a full and fun day with the PSV yesterday - played on and off and it eventually gave it up around 10:40 or so. The two 3DS's that entered my bag fully charged and didn't play a single fucking game all day were flashing red battery warnings at that exact time. The 3DS battery life is a -fucking disgrace- and i'm being kind with that appraisal. No, Nintendopplers, "Buy a Nyko" is not a get out card.

I haven't charged my 3DS for a week and it's still got about 60% of its battery life left.  Did you leave those 3DS systems in standby?

how is Pushmo? supposedly the newest firmware update introduced a way to transfer games between systems and that's enough to make 3DSware a slightly less than bad service.

Battery life usually lasts me a few days before I need to charge it, I play a few hours a day, but that damn red light warning gives you like 5 minutes before it dies, older systems gave you around 30 minutes or so.

I've been slowly finishing off my DS library and using my DSi to play the games.  I can go like a full week before needing a charge, it's actually kind of amazing to not have to constantly worry about docking the damn thing.  3DS battery is manageable, but I'm hoping future versions improve it.

Any battery conversations are off the table for Nintendo fans - i can tell you that right now. It's a dead avenue for debate.

Yeah,in this case silence tells a lot.

I wonder if Sony downclocked Vita like PSP to meet acceptable battery life, that would somewhat explain graphical problems.

How warm is Vita?

Media Create will release its full set of weekly sales stats early tomorrow (actually around midnight tonight), but the firm has given advanced stats to the press.

Vita sold 325,000 units in its first week (covering the 17th and 18th), according to Media Create stats (as reported at IT Media). This is similar to the 321,000 unit figure that Enterbrain reported earlier in the week.

Media Create estimates that the system's sell-through rate is 65%. This is based off an estimate of 500,000 units shipped, which matches a figure shared in a column that was posted to Nikkei earlier today (it's possible that the Nikkei column was based off Media Create's shipment estimates).

Media Create CEO Atsushi Hosokawa provided some commentary on the initial performance. "The shipment was abundant, so it seems that there were hardly any reports of inability to buy due to shortages. Regarding sold units, to be honest we would like to have seen it sell a bit more, but you can say that it reached a certain level of success."

Hosokawa blamed the relatively slow start on price, noting that when you include a game and required accessories, the system ends up costing 40,000 yen. He also noted that the system did not have a system seller at launch.

One other factor could be holding back the Vita: its predecessor, the PSP. Sony sold 60,000 units of the aging hardware this past week, Hosokawa said.

Cormac must be on some sedatives as Vita is recepted quite well even by dem haters.

I was just referring to how dead this thread was, after my call for impressions. I've also seen nothing positive on twitter from J Bore...jonny's post above was the first really positive thing i'd seen. Now I have one myself of course so I can make up my own mind (it's shit for another few months at least :lol)

Should have my Vita today...looking forward to trying it out.

Agree broadly, but GBA was awesome - one of the best things Nintendo ever did - and it had no competition ... in fact Nintendo killed it prematurely when competition came.  You can never quite tell when Nintendo is going to be heel or face.

Holy SHIT the screen is beautiful.   :o  UMvC3 looks incredibly sharp and vibrant, and there's no ghosting.  Shits all over the 3DS' screen.  The system is also far more comfortable to hold and use.

Marvel is a near-perfect port.  It's not like SSF4 3D Edition where the backgrounds are static; just about everything, if not everything, is intact, although some of the effects look like they're lower res.

Trying Uncharted now.

No shit.  The 3DS screen is pretty terrible.  I get so much ghosting and double images playing Mario Land 3D on it.

Vita on the other hand is godly OLED :bow

Now get me some Shinbido 2 impressions :P  And maybe how Blazblue controls on it (since I hear it looks insane on that screen and the online is perfect like the console versions).

As a follow up to a pretty mediocre game, why would people expect better? FFX was pretty universally loved and FFX-2 did pretty well because of that.

I enjoyed parts of 13 but have no desire to play more of the same game, even if it is slightly better. Heard the story continues to suck dick. SE just needs to move on to the next thing.

Vita already bombed in America.  Gamestop is slashing prices:  http://www.gamestop.com/ps-vita

Hot Shots Golf, Modnation Racers, Wipeout and two other things are down to $30 from $40.

Amazon is doing it too.  Plus they honor preorder prices.

edit: unless there is actually variable pricing, but Gamestop has them at 40 reduced to 30.

Ordered a case from Play-Asia, and decided to go ahead and throw in BlazBlue too-- am reading that way more people are on BB online.

I also tried account switching.  Lost my Marvel data, presumably because of the online component, but my Uncharted save stayed intact.

So, in other words, you'll be buying a Vita when a GTA or a Saint's Row is released?  :P  Did either 3D PSP GTA have camera controls set to the face buttons?  I can't remember.

I bought a PSP so I could play GTA on the go. Now I can play GTA III or Chinatown Wars on my iPod.

I'm living sans-Vita.

+1

Played* 3 GTA games,The Warriors and Dante Inferno

I guess the next stop is iOS,crappy controls be damned

Vita already bombed in America.  Gamestop is slashing prices:  http://www.gamestop.com/ps-vita

Hot Shots Golf, Modnation Racers, Wipeout and two other things are down to $30 from $40.

Amazon is doing it too.  Plus they honor preorder prices.

edit: unless there is actually variable pricing, but Gamestop has them at 40 reduced to 30.

Sweet.  Cheaper launch confirmed!

yeah, but Uncharted was raised to $50

no clue what's going on with the pricing in America

probably.  people defend the resident evil 3ds $50 price too.

I think even $40 is pushing it.  The only games I can understand at $40 or $50 are ones releasing alongside console games.

And it looks even worse compared to iOS and Android pricing.

It does look like a pretty solid launch, though.  Can't fault them for that.  The J-PSP had a good launch line-up too.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/12/22/playstation-vita-launch-lineup-and-details/

America's memory stick prices:

4 GB Memory Card   February 15, 2012   $19.99
8 GB Memory Card   February 15, 2012   $29.99
16 GB Memory Card   February 15, 2012   $59.99
32 GB Memory Card   February 15, 2012   $99.99

which is cheaper than Japan I guess? I'll probably just get the 16 gig

Go for 32, Linkzg.

Sony loves bloated/uncompressed downloads so 16gig won't be enough in the long run (take it from a proud PSP GO owner). Heck, even 32 might not be enough if you are going digital only like me.

http://andriasang.com/comzh4/kawano_on_vita_sales/
Quote
Sony Computer Entertainment Japan CEO Hiroshi Kawano spoke briefly about PlayStation Vita sales during a press conference for Gung Ho Entertainment's Ragnarok Odyssey yesterday (see Famitsu.com's report here).

Kawano described the system's first week sales of 321,407 units as "a figure in accordance with expectations." However, he added, "Games and peripherals are selling extremely well. Sales of the download versions of titles are exceeding expectations."

Media Create yesterday reported that Sony and its third parties had sold around 300,000 units of software over the first two days of the system's launch. This equalled a 0.92 attach rate (0.92 games per system sold) which is lower than the launch attach rates for 3DS and PSP. However, Media Create's sales figures do not take download sales into account.

DC, have you played Marvel for more than five minutes and tried it online?

Wednesday, I found ONE match against another import.

Last night, I played for a bit in single player with worldwide fight request enabled...got two matches against J-players.  Both had lag, although the second evened out after a bit and was pretty smooth.

So it's hard for me to gauge the online after online three matches, but in comparison SSF4 3D Edition feels almost lag-free against J-players when I play online.  Maybe it's that capped 30FPS doing it.

I think the Vita launch numbers are quite impressive considering that Japan has way more important things going on right now. 'Tards calling it 'bomba' fail, as in usual tard fashion, to see the bigger picture. Maybe Vita would have beat the 3DS launch numbers if a couple of cities weren't washed off the island recently. Not like it matters.

Talking more about the bombage of the launch third party games.

That fair?

Did they really bomb though?

Outside of Minnagolf, all those games would have done about the same numbers if released today on 3DS, PS3, PSP.  These are all minor 30k or less selling games to Japan.  Only Minna no Golf is the kind of game that should be doing 150k+  Maybe Lord of Apocalypse but it's a sequel to a crappy monster hunter that no one thought was any good.

I don't think the sales are great for anything, Vita, but it just seems kind of...expected?

Will be interesting to see how Tales of Innocence R sells.  It's out in a month and on PSP the Tales low-budget-no-effort titles did about 100k openings.  Then again it's got the FFXIII-2, Ni no Kuni problem of being a remake/port of a game people didn't care for in the first place.  Will probably bomb, but maybe it'll do 50-60k opening.  I'm going to be the dumb Tales fan I am and import it for a billion dollars or whatever the current exchange rate is.

also anyone who judges the quality of a console by sales is a fucking idiot and should be shot. the 360 isn't a better console because it sold more, just like how the PS2 wasn't a better console because it sold more.

the question is, how many versions of SF will they bring to it

we already got marvel, then SF x T.  Maybe they'll do a collection with SF3 and 4.  Or FUCK IT, WE'RE CAPCOM SF4 FULL PRICE WITH LESS FEATURES.  They are gonna eat the shit out of easy PS3/PSV ports

bebpo - "expected" or not, whether they would do better on another system or not, i'm not sure how you can quantify those sales as anything less than failure.  they are half of the usual attach rate for launch software on a handheld, an attach rate which is already low compared to home console launches.  some of them are under 10k.  these are not numbers where anyone is making money.  the digital sales are likely mitigating things somewhat, but even if you double the sales, which is assuredly nowhere near reality, the sales would still be on the bottom line of acceptable.

dcharlie - well, here's the problem here, isn't it?  i can't say anything to counter anything anyone says about digital sales, which means we have left the realm of fact and entered the realm of religion.  so unless you have some entertaining lego pictures to go with your posts from now on, i'll have to check out of sales discussion about the vita.

Yeah that makes sense, always bothered me they never brought 3rd strike to PSP though.

I can't wait until people start trying to calculate download sales by looking at memory card sales.
