the sony topic contains the stank of sony's ps3 announcements but there is still cool vita news coming out

video about Hot Shots Golf features

Cool stuff going on there.  You can change time of day real time by dragging across the skyline.  And a less interesting feature lets you replace the background with whatever the rear camera is staring at.

I'm loving absolutely everything about this machine so I'll spare everyone my cum showers, and focus on the only concerns I'm looking forward to dispel when I get the chance to sample the hardware:
- How comfortable is it to hold the system without accidentally messing with the back panel.
- How close are the sticks to d-pad and face buttons, will it cramp hands or lead to unwanted/unexpected inputs with interacting with either of them. (eg: someone mentioned that furiously presses of X may accidentally tilt the right stick).
- Finally the stellar launch line up: they better prepare at least 3-4 quality titles for launch day, because thanks to the 3DS I'm loathing "launch window" scheduling. They can't afford to horribly plan that period as much as Nintendo did. Holding back completed games for this long is just distinguished mentally-challenged and detrimental.

So will HDMI out be an option?  One time it is, one time it isn't.

HDMI out is make or break for me.  The ability to play it wherever I want is nice but so is playing it on my TV.

my concern is that developers are going to do the same thing they did on the DS and shoehorn touch screen controls and other stuff in to show just how feature-rich their shit is.  looks like sony is going optional with that, hope third parties have the good sense to as well.  poor ol' forever tainted Dawn of Sorrow. :/

drawing crest to seal the bosses was the coolest shit ever

i miss the ds :'(

have you seen Dynasty Warriors for it?

at first it looks really, really nice.  then he activates a power and you have to tap the back screen multiple time to create pillars of fire.  then it has a QTE where you have to touch enemies and watch a little cinematic of the guy taking them out.

I worry most for Ridge Racer and other third party games.  So far most Sony games let you use traditional controls or have integral touch/motion controls.  Gravity Daze lets you aim with the right stick or by tilting.  Uncharted can be played without the touch stuff (except for the touch based puzzles).  Though, tbh, Uncharted platforming is so boring that I'll end up using it.

I doubt TV-out will be an option.  They still want people buying PS3s and PS3 software.

What I would love to see is cross-platform online multiplayer.  It would be awesome if I could play Street Fighter X Tekken on a PSV against someone on a PS3.

Wipeout Vita has that feature.  It's confusing since the Vita version is a brand new game and the multiplayer is against Wipeout Fury players.

So far that, Modnation Racers sharing tracks/characters/karts with the PS3, and Ruin sharing saves have been the cross-platform features.

Gravity Daze is made by Team Siren, btw.  It was originally a PS3 game.  I'm trying to think of any other relevant news.

I also don't see Vita affecting the PS3 if it had video out, and if anything, if they advertise that feature it could sell more Vita hardware.  I don't know how much they make/lose on the PS3, but I would they want to sell more Vita hardware at this point.

bad taste to make a list, but

Good games:  Sotn ≥ Aria > Portrait > Dawn
Not good games:  HoD = OoE

(I like Circle of the Moon too but that's a bit different)

I don't remember OoE very well (played it when it came out), but I think at least a few of the bosses put up a decent fight. It's not the hardest game ever or anything but it was at least a step up from the usual Igavanias.

Plus I just don't like the two character gimmick in PoR.

Bosses in OoE were predictable and the only challenge was repeating the laborious pattern with consistency as their life bar slowly chipped away with each weak slash.

I didn't have a problem with Portrait's art.  The game was colorful and the anime fit the look the game had (unlike in Dawn).  Plus PoR had awesome unlockable modes/characters.  OoE had nicer art, but you're still looking at recycled Turbografix/snes sprites for the bulk of the game.

and to be fair, ooe and harmony still blow lords of shadow away.

Pretty much this. I'm in no rush to get this hardware, but I think it shows a lot of promise. The trouble is that the PSP actually has a lot of potential which was never used. It would have been nice if they actually unlocked the processor speed. They also could have had an "install to memstick" option which was keyed to the PSP, the same way the 360 handles "install to HDD". The PSP can handle up to 15 person multiplayer in local ad hoc. Is there even a SINGLE game which uses that?

So it remains to be seen if the Vita will have its full potential addressed, or if it will be another PS PORTable.

I really liked the Death battle in PoR as well. But honestly, I think it's that terrible Nation of Fools stage that really drags PoR down for me. Worst level in any 2D Castlevania (that I've played).

The PSP already does this for a lot of games. It was my savior for the PSP-1000 for playing games for long periods of time.

Count me in the group waiting for the PSV-2000 that has HDMI out and bluetooth to a PS3/PS4 controller (or the best scenario, a PSV-N1000  :omg)

:lol I was half-joking, but I don't want to get into it since this thread has been derailed enough as it is.

But I will say shooters would be the same shit too if they weren't games that are defined by their scoring systems, which vary wildly from one game to another. The biggest difference between each metroidvania is the bosses and the gimmick (eg. draw pentagrams! this time you have TWO characters! etc)

yeah, that's a bad move

even if it had to pull a 3DS and sell with an underwhelming software lineup, it would be better to have it for the holidays.

I mean, even if they had to re-release PSP titles like Resistance Retribution with dual analog support, that would have been fine if the hardware was available.

or just have heavy marketing around the holidays with kiosks and trademark "Wait For" as the message.

- Mario Kart 3DS

Vita am done for.
Pfft, all this does is nudge me towards getting a regular psp in the meantime since I never had one and it's got a whole catalog of stuff to dive into.

Honestly, F-Zero > Wipeout. There aren't any bullshit kart racer-esque powerups that can screw you over in F-Zero, it's just pure racing skill. Of course you can turn that shit off in custom Wipeout games, but they're always there in the campaign.
