If the "X" button in DW7 let me boost/dash/slide out of a combo it'd make me A LOT more happy off the bat.  Without that it really feels a bit limited.

It also has sterile maps and copy pasta mission design with extremely poor level variety.

Musou is about more than combos. If it was all about combos I'd just stick with fighters.

If I recall, Xiahou Dun starts with three star level sword and he's the first character you play as in Wei. That means you can cancel. Attack and quickly switch to jump. There's your cancel. Also, double jump if you've got three level weapon and the character is a 'mobile' character.

I don't have DW7 any more to check, but if you do the conquest-style mode, doesn't that let you start off with three star weapons right off the bat?  No story and characters have to be unlocked for use in that mode though.

TBH I didn't feel like playing through the DW7 story modes.  Didn't like being forced to use specific characters.  I still want DW7 XL, but with Musou Orochi 2 so close and the Vita DW on the horizon (will wait for the U.S. release), I'm sticking with passing on it.

MO2 is gonna annihilate everything else anyway.

it's not the weapons that have 3 stars,it's the character that have different amount of stars on different kind of weapons

and you can increase them by learning more skill on the skill tree

Played some more DW7 and I have some questions and complaints.  First of all the framerate fucking sucks!  I thought DW6 was the one with the shit framerate and this was supposed to be a stable 60fps?  After the 60fps Gundam Musou 3 this always changing janky framerate makes the game annoying to play.  Plus the graphics suck on top of it!

Also the reason the lack of a dash button really bothers me is because you move fricken slow and the maps are big.  Unlike Gundam Musou and the Basara series where you are always fighting, here it feels like most of the time I'm just running between generals.

So uh, since everyone can use every weapon, does that mean despite there being like 4000 characters, they all play the same?  One of the main reasons I like musou games/basara games is because there are a ton of characters and everyone has a completely unique and different movelist so it's fun playing as them all.  Is the moveset just based on the weapons?

The starting weapons are 2 star in story mode with Wei.  Will the combat get more fluid and better at 3 stars?  I like my combat to feel good and fluid in musou/basara types.  It feels really janky and slow at the start here.

So far DWG3 >>>>>> Basara 2/3 >>>>>>FoTNS > DW/SW games to me.  If the Orochi 2 has sub 60 framerates and slow combat/movement, I can't see it being that great.

Use a horse if you're on a big map. Use the horse to travel fast with B/Circle. Also, DWG3 isn't isn't that much faster. Like I said, it depends on the character and weapon.

Also, characters aren't the same, some are better with certain weapons, and each character has their own EX/Musou. This can change a lot.

Compare:

vs

How is DWG3 faster? It isn't. The only way it's "faster" is covering long distances with dash. If you expected a game that takes place in Three Kingdoms-era China to have dash, I don't know what to say. But DW7 is hardly slow.

But that's what mounts are for:

Hmm, the hits are not satisfying at all in that girl video.  I dunno if it's the sound effects or graphics, but it barely feels like you're hitting the enemies unlike DWG.  The next video with the guy the combat seems more satisfying.  Maybe it just depends on the character.

And uh, because it's 3 Kingdoms, the characters can't dash?  That makes no sense, running fast is not strange capability when these guys and girls can do flaming jump kicks and shoot fireballs.

It's not the sound effects or graphics. It's the fact that mobile suits explode when you kill them. What kind of dash do you want? Get speed upgrades.

You play Musou for the action? You're doing the same thing for 50-100 hours but you play it...for the...action? There are far better action titles than Musou. Why bother with Musou games AT ALL then? Musou games are great because of:

1. Tactical real time strategy elements mixed with hack and slash gameplay
2. RPG elements (skills, weapons, levels, abilities, stats) that are a proverbial carrot being dangled to incite continual interest.
3. Fun dialogue/fan service
4. Roasting dudes in style.

DWG games have good action
Basara games have good action

Nothing wrong with wanting a large scale battle game to have combat with some depth.  Doesn't have to be up there with DMC3, but it should have basic things like being able to link combo chains.

I played a bit of DWG1 and it's slow as fuck, considerably more slow than Dynasty Warriors 7. How about you stop bitching, play the game, learn some skills, level up some weapons, and then do your combo chains? It's not like you CAN'T do combo chains WITHOUT cancelling either. DWG3 is easy as hell in chaining combos. Get the Unicorn Gundam, set it to Unicorn mode, and you've got 50-100 hit combo right there without any effort.

Sounds to me you're just mad DW7 requires some manner of skill and you have to work for getting awesome, whereas, you're awesome off the bat in DWG3. And so, DWG3 is an outlier in Muosu games for me, in that other games, ESPECIALLY Warriors Orochi 2, you have to work your ass off to get beast characters.

You are taking these games like they're pure action games, when you should be embracing them like they're rpgs, since they have similar character progression.

I mean, in order to do this:

You have to pool points into your character. What's so wrong about that? ???

Finally, are you HOLDING weapon change? Weapon change is another cancel. So you can go do one combo with one weapon, then hold weapon change at the end of the combo, release it, and you'll do an animation that will keep you locked in your combo, follow up. Just like in that video I posted.

btw if you like the story AT ALL check out the novel and/or the Chinese television serial:

Hundreds of characters, a timeline spanning over 100 years (the game takes place over the course of 110 or so years, but the characters don't age), it is the epic of all epics.

Another suggestion is Red Cliff.

This is a four hour John Woo film detailing the Battle of Chibi and all the players involved. Fantastic film. It is the highest grossing Chinese film of all time. Well deserved.

Getting into the Three Kingdoms is a hobby unto itself.

~8min mark new trailer

has LOTS OF GRUNTS JUST FOR HIMURO

Also
-Buggy stage + boss fight
-QTE Don Kreig stage + Mihawk fight playing as Zoro
-Arlong stage + Arlong boss fight + playing as Sanji

Guessing each arc will get 1 stage and they'll keep releasing trailers with 3-4 stages at a time.

What's your PSN ID?  The game has online co-op!

I only popped the disc in for a minute last night and went to free mode.  Looked to be set up like DW7, putting you in an NPC-populated area where you can buy weapons and such.  Only three characters available by default.
