The more I play this the better it gets. This game will chew your balls and spit them out on your face. The full realization of the strategy elements of Musou. Really, really great. Once again proving that whoever labels these games as mindless is a dumbass.

Also, online is fucking fun and hilarious. It is such a hilarious kill fest. Everyone goes off on separate parts of the map so we just kill whatever by ourselves.

I've spent maybe eight hours playing this game so I'll offer my useless impressions.

The positives:

+ This is yet another departure from the typical Musou fold.  This is just an obligatory complaint that reviewers have been way the fuck wrong about this series since 2003.
+ Most stylistic Gundam Musou.  I don't watch the anime but it looks closer to an anime than the previous entries.
+ The difficulty.  Even on easy, you can find yourself thrown against the wall and destroyed if you're not paying attention.  Probably the most difficult Musou game I've ever played.  You can't really get away with hitting XXXXXXXXXXXX without finding yourself fucked in a large area with lots of enemies, even on the easiest difficulty.
+ Best take on the Strikeforce formula.  I hated DW Strikeforce with a passion but DWG3 makes this formula playable.  I think maybe I hated the extreme jankiness of DW Strikeforce over the formula of the level layout itself.

The negatives:

- The most claustrophobic Gundam Musou.  I liked the original's large areas, even if it was mostly empty.  These areas are so tiny.  I half expect Gundam Musou 4 to just be nothing more than lots of tiny corridors.
- I hate how pilots will respawn several times throughout a stage.  It was my biggest pet peeve with the first two and it seems to have been made worse with this one.

I think it is a great game.  I still find the original to be the best (I even got the 100,000 KO achievement) with this being the second best (sorry, the second one never really clicked with me that well).  After playing these games for nine years, I still love the Musou series and will probably never really get tired of the formula.

general production- stuff for the red shirt scrub pilots (occationally piloted by an ace just to show how they dont need a gundam to be more awesome than everyone else).

Its actually worth taking some of the GP suits for a spin if you have a level 4 plan for them- some of them are a little crazy im- like any of the GM suits have an INSANELY powerful rifle super which is like wtf.

Yeah- to be honest they did a much better job with the movesets- I mean they still dont have a full tree of moves- but the limited tree is much more different between each suit. Worth messing around with them once in a while- course right now im busy unlocking licenses so not much time for goofin around:(

Really is, I mean the 00 suits are close because they also have the trans am period after their musou, but Unicorn essentially keeps ALL of its enhanced capabilities for a time after its musou- so its so easy to just crank up another level 1 musou and extend it over and over. I also like how you can do unicorn's musou far enough away from a boss so that it doesnt trigger their usual musou attack right when they see you on Normal or higher- so you can pretty much hit musou last second and one shot them haha.

these games have so much kanji you'd have to be fluent or advanced level Japanese speaker to enjoy it. So no. Part of the fun of these games is the dialogue and all the extra shit. This is especially true for an Empires game, which is full of menus extravaganza.

Yeah, their excuse is that they couldn't fit both japanese and english voices on a 360 disc but can on PS3.  :( If SW3E got brought out internationally and was PS3 only as well that might be enough crap to push me over into getting one of Sony's failboxes.

It really doesn't. they can't just make it a download?

the thing that makes no sense is that dw7 360 outsold ps3 version, and not by a scrimmage either.

Yeah, pretty much. Though I suppose it's not set in stone, it doesn't look good for 360. If Koei was smart they'd do DW7 XL as DLC on 360.

To be honest, we're very lucky to be getting XL at all; musou games are becoming more and more niche in the west and we're  now starting to miss out on entires (the whole PS3 SW3 series, DW strikeforce 2, several PSP games, etc etc) Back when the series was more popular we got EVERY installment and port.

I'd settle for SW3: E than be snubbed the entire series.

If Koei made one Musou a year, this wouldn't be a problem, which is why they've become less popular in the west in general. I mean, DW7 came out in March/April of this year and we're getting XL already. That's fucked.

In the past year:

- DW7
- DW7XL
- DWG3
- SW3Z
- SW3E
- Troy
- Ken's Rage

that's ridiculous

I'm still grinding through DWG3.

I should be done with it by now since I've owned it for nearly two months although due to a hectic summer of work, I never got the time to sink considerable time into this game.  Anyway, it's still great but my biggest pet peeve with the game is that when a plot line ends, it does not tell me where to go next.  In other words, if I'm playing as Char and I get through all of the stages I can, I have no idea that I'm supposed to play as Banagher and unlock a few more.  I think the game is very polished otherwise but it would be nice to know where to go next vs. checking any relevant characters to see if I should continue to play as them.

Re: Musou 360 expansions getting snubbed, I think the series has already become very niche and maybe Koei doesn't want to spend the money to port these games over to the 360 to only find it selling 5,000 copies in the US.  I could be wrong.  I suppose as a Musoufag, I should own a PS3 to play these games but nah.  In the future, I won't be surprised if we just end up getting mainline Dynasty Warrior games only, with maybe the Gundam entries as well.  I'll just enjoy the games that come out, as per the usual.
