i played the dynasty warriors next demo on vita tonight, it wasn't bad!  i was impressed with the sheer number of people they crammed on the screen.  i had no idea what i was doing, since i'd never played a dw game before, but i still had a good time with it. i might pick it up if i can snag it on sale later on.

Does Sima Zhao still have his rockin' ex? he and his lady wang yuanji are my favorites in dw7

jin fo lyfe

I dunno, but I was riding people like surfboards Dante style and kicking giant Gundam balls and it was badass.

Plus he has the same voice actor as Noel from XIII-2.

It's good stuff...they also released an update that displays more enemies on-screen for the J-version.  I don't know if this was already-available for the U.S. release/demo.

That's his ex

I don't understand in this context.

I thought you meant "ex" as in "his ex-wife" who is a different character.

But now it sounds like "ex" as in "EX version of a character with a different moveset"

I don't play these DW games featuring of China, so I'll need some help here.

In DW7, an  Ex Attack is a move you can only use if you have your ex weapon equipped. Sima Zhao's weapon is the regular sword, so with that weapon you can use his EX which is a unique command.

Ah, so I'm guessing the DW7 characters in WO3 all have their EX weapon equipped, which makes sense.

Game seems HOT.  So many characters, so many moves, fast combo-flowing combat; great stuff.

After what happened with DW7 XL I am sticking with Koei games on PS3.  They didn't even release One Piece on 360.

Any suggestions on how to handle weapons in this iteration? I got a lot of loot from the first battle, including a sword for Zhao with some skills attached. Afterwards, I went to camp and saw the weapon dealer.

I noticed a lot of the weapons had skills attached. How does the skill system work in this game? Do you learn them like in DW7/DGW3 or is it just like in WO2? Should I keep using the same weapon for a bit and grind it out or should I try to experiment with as many weapons with skills allotted as possible?

See: DW7 XL.

1. There is not going to be a WO3 XL.

2. The reason there is no DW7 XL on 360 is because there was no DW7 on 360 in Japan. There is a WO3 on 360 in Japan. Therefore, logic suggests that support for the game will be at parity on both systems, and if there is a WO3 XL, both platforms will get it.

Since I have defeated your arguement lyte, as penance you must play WO3 with me when I receive the 360 version next week :P

Nah dude, doesn't work...it wouldn't have been difficult for them to make XL for 360.  Not to mention that SW2 XL was DDL only in the States but a disc release in Japan.  They've done it before.

Anyway, the 360 version looks pretty much the same as PS3, but the CG quality is worse.  That's about all that I can tell.

Also no DLC is available.  Japan has outfit packs (some are free!), stages, music, etc.

DW7 online was crap too. You both had soldiers in different locations so you could watch your co-op partner slashing around at what was seemingly nothing when on their screen they're killing dudes. ::) Also your new thread title is missing the s at the end of WARRIORS.  :P

Holy shit, this could very well be the definitive Musou. It has DW's tactical edge, the fast pace of DWG3, lots of funny writing, a (surprisingly) interesting story - especially if you know the characters backgrounds, and the character leveling system from past Orochi games makes it as fun as ever. There's tons of stuff to unlock, and every time I play a map, I'm finding a new move or something added to my move list or a new and cool way to pull a 1000 hit combo.

Speaking of maps, it's so refreshing to have multiple armies fighting each other. My favorite map so far was a struggle between three (not two!) factions forcing my own army to split up. I'd go back and forth on the front to handle any incoming threats. I tried the map on hard and it was balls to the wall tension that felt like a real time strategy game with back and slash added in. Holy fuck.

I'm really enjoying the new special attributes they gave each unit type as well. Stringing combos as a Wonder character never ceases to be fun.

It doesn't have the difficulty curve WO2 had but aside from that this game is Beat em Up crack. If people gave this game a shot it could easily be recognized as being one of the best beat em ups the genre has to offer.

The pace is still slower than DWG3.  At least until you get mounts, which I don't have yet.  Running from one group to the next still takes some time and I keep wishing I had a dash button like DWG3 has boost button.

Otherwise it's good stuff.

Nah, but it's pointless.  Why spend a half dozen 20-30 seconds each map of doing absolutely nothing but holding forward?  Like, I just don't understand the design philosophy behind it on these musou games.  DWG3 shows that they understood people buy these games to BEAT STUFF UP and so they made a boost + small levels so that you're flying from one area to the next in <5 seconds and always kicking ass.  I don't understand why they don't implement the same thing (with bigger levels) in DW/SW/WO.  Even the horses in DW aren't that fast.

Then again Basara has that same problem too.  A lot of time spent running between fights.  Not a fan of downtime in musou games.

I don't like DWG3 small levels. I think DWG3's levels are forgettable and atrocious.

I like large maps, large scale battles. DWG3 battles feel like skirmishes, not war battles. There is nothing in DWG3 that is remotely like the Hydra stage in WO3. Nothing. And that's just the FIRST STAGE.

I'll just chalk it up to you have a lack of patience. You like things fast, fast, fast and don't like things that have downtime. Understandable.

DWG3 also lacks any sense of tension. I ended up have a game over in WO3 tonight because I had to travel from half way across the map to assist an ally. He [Taishi Ci] ended up dying, which is against the victory conditions and I had to start over and this was on normal mode.

If it were DWG3, it wouldn't even matter because for the most part, if you boost it up, you'll always reach there in time to kick ass and defend your zone.

I like games having downtime in games where downtime makes sense for pacing reasons.  What I don't get is why there should be downtime, every 20 seconds in a BEAT UP 1 MILLION SOLDIERS games.  I guess it wouldn't be as bad if it took longer to kill the enemy groups, but literally it goes like this:

Run to group for 5-20 seconds
Do 1 combo or 2 that kills entire group and general;  Takes maybe 15-20 seconds

Run to next group for 5-20 seconds
repeat.

I feel in most musou games that do that, it makes the pacing all kinds of goofy and inconsistent.  I want to be FIGHTING DUDES for minutes straight.  I feel like I hardly ever get that in musou games.  At least in DWG3 you kill a group in 20 seconds, but you're at the next group in 3 seconds so it's almost like you're always fighting.

DWG3 traded the "tension" that was in DWG1-2 for a game that is the equivalent of Shinobi PS2, it's a pure speed running combat musou.  The fun is trying to finish the stages as fast as possible.  That's the challenge and it's a fun one.

Don't know why you're trying to be a hater, I was under the impression DWG3 was almost universally loved by musou fans.

If these games were just pure beat em ups, I probably wouldn't like them. I like the kill 1000's dudes element, but I like the light strategy elements and war elements just as much.

To me, this sounds like a case of expectations. It sounds like you want it to be a genre it really isn't. In other words, it sounds like you want Ninja Gaiden.

I love DWG3. I'm not being a hater. I just don't understand the complaint that Musou games are "slow", or at least, modern Musou games.

They aren't slow!  I just think they have odd pacing issues.

I really like WO3 :P  Great game, and it feels much faster than DW7.
