Giant Bomb is a personality driven place and a lot of the personalities from its earlier days aren't there anymore. I still like getting Jeff's insights into things but that's about it really. I try to watch some quick looks here and there but just end up going 'ehhh, nah' after a short while more often that not.

She's girl Dan Rykert without the self-awareness or nerdy knowledge of vidya and wrasslin. She's still funny occasionally but she also never admits when she's wrong.

Women do get way more immature bullshit from nerds so I understand the knee jerk reaction to always defend her, but they push it too far to the point where nobody can disagree with her and they'll back her up on the dumbest shit. Remember when she and Alex decided that Disco Elysium was misogynistic and it's writing was just ripping off Chuck Palahniuk? And then Vinny told fans of that game that they needed to shut the fuck up and stop harassing her when they commented that she didn't understand the game? Most of the audience nerd rage could have been mitigated by just hiring somebody more qualified that also happened to be female. There were already a lot of women in games at the time she got hired so I'm not sure why they picked her.

Yeah the stuff Abby was into vs. the stuff the rest of the site's personnel and most likely by extension its viewers as well didn't exactly mesh, maybe they thought she could grow their audience in some ways but ultimately there just seemed to be people either complaining about her and her content or just not really minding but not being super into it either.

I don't know I always thought they needed some sort of anime weeb on thier team. Not like a weird waifu dude who only soaks up NIPPON!. But someone with a vested interest in the stuff who has GB's sense of humor about it, because honestly I look for that and it's hard to find it in the gamer space.

I don't know what happen to GB and myself. I for sure grew up with that Game publication podcast era, but honestly it's only Retronauts that I still keep up with. Probably because I feel Jeremy and Co have also grown up and still have a real excitement for games. But it's thoughtful and more retrospective.

Probably the biggest drawback of being a personality focused site is it will eventually run its course, like giant bomb seems to have.

It sort of feels like a sitcom that has stuck around for 3 series too many these days.
