I kind of suspect that the semi recent sale of GB has similar to terms to when Blizzard was bought up where some founding people have to stay for x amount of time and then after that they can bounce. Makes me wonder how long Jeff or Vinny will be around. The old guard being split between the coasts makes for a meh podcast experience for people who've been perusing the site for a long time. Regular bombcast lately is jeff and ben and one other dude who's been on the sites periphery for ages? Not the same.

I still enjoy listening to Jeff talk about things, but the periphery journalism, video content, etc. around gaming has changed a lot in the last decade. I give more money to twitch streamers from twitter like the Go Off Kings then I do to GB and that’s kind of an odd proposal when you think about how much more work goes into making GB content.

I don't watch Giant Bomb much anymore but then I consume far less video game media content than I ever have before. Jeff is and has always been the most important part of that site though for me.

Dan never really did anything for me personally outside of the mario party bits that were funny to me because of Jeff's disdain for the franchise.

From that interview posted a few posts up he pretty much says that his opportunities come from the fact that he shoots for the stars. What others consider "impossible, of course they will say no.", Dan goes "whoopty doo let's see what happens if I actually do give X a shot". Lo and behold nothing ever happens if you don't make it happen.

Kinda reminds me of this one friend of mine. We always go "how does she keep ending up in these crazy situations" (good ones that is) and well it's kinda the same thing (and I guess her being easy on the eyes doesn't hurt too, but plenty of people are easy on the eyes).

I do wonder how their subscriptions are going. Now obviously my own view doesn't need to have much truth to it, but seems like everyone are kind of burned out over them. Everyone I know (including myself) stopped subscribing quite a bit of time ago. Ryan dying was bad, but Vinny moving office and just generally terrible hires all around, made me not want to watch them anymore.

Will re-subscribe when Abby start doing bestiality content though

I still listen to the beast cast fairly reguarly. But the regular podcasts I dropped completely, and the quick looks and shit? Eh, only if there is a game I am really interested in.

I don't give two shits about COD or Twitch streaming but their Beastcast COD charity stream a few weeks ago with Dan was great. Worth it at least for the bit where Dan is really excited/proud to endorse the car he bought but he can only 100% confirm the color, not the make or model. Plus they go into Warzone at the end and the match is actually pretty fun/hilarious to spectate.

I've listened to the bombcast weekly for like 9 years, and I just don't know if i can do it anymore. These dudes rarely even play games anymore, and if they do they sure don't talk much about them because of dubious reasons (they've talked around LOU2 for like five weeks in a row now without actually really TALKING about the game), the news they discuss is just whatever outrage is on the front page of resetera and when Ben picks the emails, they're the worst emails you could've possibly picked. Where the fuck is knife versus bat tier stuff? I still think Jeff has some of the quickest wit in the entire industry, but no one really riffs with him aside from Vinny. God I'm bummed. Listening to old stuff with Ryan still around is still great

I was looking at their youtube channel and boy, their view numbers are dire. Some videos barely have a couple thousand views. Most of their non-premium stuff on the site defaults to youtube and comparing their videos to older videos on their own channel paints a very grim picture of their engagement numbers.

That era of getting entertainment and gaming news from those kind of communities is pretty much over. That being said, its no different than the bore. Who gives a fuck anymore what anyone on here thinks of games also. It's become a very individualistic thing. Or a herd mentality of people fetishing cult like youtube sites that specialize in extreme viewpoints. Giant bomb is neither the former nor the latter so it doesn't really have that kind of pull anymore.

Listening to any videogame podcast in this day and age feels like something we use to do in the stone age. Posting on forums feels about the same at this point.

You high? Their numbers are shitty because the only people left on staff are all miserable (minus Jan but he's incredibly boring) and they actually think playing video games is hard work. Like yeah nobody gives a fuck what they think because nobody on staff actually cares anymore. I'm confident that at least one of them has thought about playing a video game after work and said to themselves "nah I'm off the clock."
