Er

I dreamed of Kids on the Slope.

Like, years ago. Literally. I dreamed I was watching it, and the rain shot in the first episode and Sentaro blowing on dude's hair.

What the fuck

So far from this season, I'we watched:

Lupin The Third: Fujiko Mine

Sylish reimagination of Lupin the Third. With two episodes out so far, both have been pretty impressive: stylish, cool, well directed, well animated...it's got everything in the making of a classic, even down to the minutia. Highly suggested, especially for Cowboy Bebop fans, as you experience first hand one of the main influences of that series. It's interesting seeing Lupin as if CB influenced it, and not the other way around.

Space Brothers

An original show, it's about two brothers who promise to become astronauts. One has already made it, the other is an underdog who has to fight for everything he does, born in an unlucky year during an unlucky hour. It's very refreshing to see a drama like this in anime, that almost gives Planates flashbacks.

Kids on the Slope

Shinichiro Watanabe's new anime tv series, with Yoko Kanno tagging along. We talked about the supposed homosexual overtones before, and while they show up in the first episode, it's not really overt or anything. Like Space Brothers, this is also a refreshing anime television drama, but instead of reaching for the stars, it's down to Earth, almost slice of life. The first episode shows a lot of potential. It seems like it'll be like K-on! except you know...good, with a bit of Nodame thrown in for good measure. Bonus points if you're a jazz fan. Look at the album covers inside the jazz shop!

These three shows are really good examples as to why I became an anime fan in the first place and I'm not even done watching the rest of the shows I want to check out this season.

The fact that I can watch them legally without supporting subbers is just the icing on the cake.

Been watching Moretsu Pirates with my wife...we're really enjoying it, but when I watch it I keep thinking of the far-superior Captain Tyler series.

Finished episode 13 now...two more to go until we're caught up.

One more episode of the Daily Lives Of High School Boys for me and the series is over.   :(  Really enjoyed it.

Zetman ep2 was still fairly good.  Sure it's a generic, been done before 100 times, sentai-hero monster man story, but hey it's pretty fun and entertaining.  Think I'll stick with this.

Kids on the Slope reminds me of the high school parts of XXXholic.

And you should add in Eureka Seven AO.  It's the best show of the season so far.  Even just going by the art.  Duckroll had a good post about how detailed the art is for a TV show (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=36987358&postcount=17062)

You don't need to have seen E7 for AO, it's independent show.  Different world, different characters.

I know there's a few people here who never watched or finished e7.

1. it's legal and supports the creators
2. it's convenient
3. i have not pirated an anime in years
4. i'm lazy, i don't feel like going to tt and dling shit, i'd rather just go to a site, type in the name, and stream it.
5. the translations tend to be better

The lack of a legal English streaming source for AO is concerning, especially since the Japanese blu-ray release WILL have English subtitles.

Seems like mecha shows just don't stream in general.  AO, AGE, EVOL.

There's this idea out there that English speakers don't care for shows with giant robots and want girl panties instead.  Not sure where this comes from, all of the guys I know would rather see a good robot action show than a good loli fanservice show.

Star Driver, Lagrange, and SRW OG got streams. My thoughts on AO and AGE not getting streamed borders on crazy conspiracy theories with Bandai Visual and the fact that they just don't care.

Mecha shows aren't really selling here. They're not driving the NA industry, sadly. Take a look at the Anime On DVD or Fandom Post forums, you'll see very few people talking about mecha titles.

mecha shows don't sell here because there's no longer a toonami - an outlet for showing mecha to teenagers and kids. they totally mismanaged mecha in the west. mecha had potential to become huge. transfomers and gundam wing were already big in the early 2000's.

I think it's more than just Toonami. Gundam SEED failed big time on Cartoon Network, and 00 and Gurren Lagann on Sci-Fi did jack squat. Geass did arlight on AS, but I don't know if that was due to it having mecha or not.

Gundam Seed failed big time on CN because people didn't even know it was on tv. Even I didn't know until I went to my friends dorm at college and saw it on tv and I watched every CN Gundam airing religiously.

No, it just doesn't work. I understand what they were going for with that, but it's like if you watch the first half of a movie and it's Arnold Schwarzenegger shooting a thousand dudes and then in the second half he's narrating a documentary about war atrocities in Africa. It doesn't gel. The creators spend all this time showing you over-the-top violence and crazy action scenes and the show's about these cold-hearted sons-of-guns who kills a hundred dudes [but they're still lovable] and then it's like "Oh, actually their whole world is totally screwed up and sadistic. Also, you're a bad person for enjoying this," before going right back to the over-the-top violence and crazy action scenes.

Plus, the whole psycho-killer, giggling kids thing has been done to death.

I liked it very much, well as much as you can like killing children. I thought it did a good job of articulating how fucked up that world actually is and how much rock stands out like a sore thumb. Rock was pretty powerless against Bala and at asserting his own sense of good on the situation in the end, which helps explain his motivations and strength in the last arc.

Do I need to watch the original series to not miss anything in Aquarion Evo?

Don't watch Evol if you haven't seen Aquarion.  The entire selling point of the series is the connections to the previous series which ended on a sort of to be continued in 12,000 years.

Plus Aquarion so far, is 10x better of a show than Evol.

People, like Mr. Gundam, who think Aquarion (the original) is creepy never stuck with it.  It's a good show, especially if you like mecha.  It's a prime example of not judging a book by its cover.  The show has a lot of heart and humor.
