no wheres in the show does it say he's afraid of fire. NO WHERE.

let's pad this out so that you may understand

if you had your face half-melted in a fire by your brother when you were of a very young age

you're saying

that there's NO REASON AT ALL that you might be afraid of fire, considering the mental/emotional/physical/EVERYTHING trauma of this incident? No. Of course not.

On top of that, he flinches at torches, he tells his men to not send fire arrows anywhere near him -- it's about as subtle as hitting you in the face with a brick.

Its painful how under developed Clegane is but you can imagine from Littlefingers insight on his past that he'd be afraid of fire especially with the big ass burn on the side of his head

I don't think the hound's past is prevalent enough to immediatly connect a fear or scar from fire to the character's sudden turn away from everything they've been having a raging boner for during the past few episodes. The shot of it doesn't help too much either. Seeing a guy with his face on fire and then maybe covering it with sand or something with a mirrored shot of the hound would have made it click more, but there were tons of people on fire while the hound is fighting and suddenly one random one makes a difference? It could have been more direct considering how much the hound stands in the background of the story.

I will certainly agree the Hound's backstory isn't prevalent in previous episodes, and in that episode they decided to hit viewers over the head with it multiple times before the battle (him being afraid of the torch, threatening the archers, watching in horror as Stannis' fleet burned, etc). That being said, I do believe there was enough there for viewers to "get" his fear of fire.

Too bad the show has pretty much marginalized him, he's such an awesome character. I have no problem with them not appeasing the SanSan shippers, but I did want the song  :'(

???

I thought everything she said was true.

It was true, sure. She's still a raging cunt. Here's why: She is of the belief that this war will not end well, and the "guard" in the tower will most likely have the duty of killing all the women in the room just to prevent them from being raped and bearing bastards. She's terrified. Sansa's terrified too, but she's organizing things to keep people calm, keep them from panicking. Cersei goes out of her way to try and freak Sansa out with what's to come, as well as taking Sansa away from her active efforts to try and calm people's nerves.

Cunt.

Was this scene supposed to happen in this episode? If so it would've made 10000000% more sense and explained how he was afraid of fire.

It was supposed to be earlier this season and was directly lifted from the scene in the book.

EW released a partial list of confirmed (new) characters for S3. They pretty much calm the various fears of fans. I'll put the names/descriptions in spoiler tags, although there's nothing particularly egregious

spoiler (click to show/hide)
Mance Rayder: We’ve heard about him all season. A former member of the Night’s Watch who became the "King Beyond The Wall," the leader of the Wildlings.

Daario Naharis: A confident and seductive warrior.
Jojen Reed; Meera Reed: A teenage brother and sister duo with special insights.
Edmure Tully: A brash young member of the Tully family.
Ser Brynden Tully (The Blackfish): Catelyn Stark’s uncle.
Lady Selyse Florent: Stannis Baratheon’s wife.
    Shireen: Stannis’ daughter.
Olenna Redwyne (The Queen of Thorns): Margaery Tyrell’s sharp-witted grandmother.
Beric Dondarrion: A skilled knight who is the leader of the outlaw group Brotherhood Without Banners.
Thoros of Myr: A red priest who follows the same religion as Melisandre.
    Tormund Giantsbane: A Wildling raider.

I'm worried that another onslaught of characters is going to be hard for new folks to deal with. Some of the introductions were great this season (Stannis being a dick over the letter), others were poorly handled or rushed (Davos' story wasn't really told until episode eight).

Many of the new characters for S3 will be supporting roles/ but some will be big/important ones that will need some explaining.

I don't think the audience is as dumb as they think the audience is.  If they wanted to put the Reeds in Bran's story, it would have been fine since there are like 4-5 named characters total in that arc and it's easy to tell them apart.

that IS the problem that it happened to a unresolved problem all of a sudden, it is the definition of a deus ex

But this was all obvious to me and I haven't read the books.

The morning after Renly dies, Littlefinger is trying to get Margaery and Loras to flee. He convinces Loras by telling him that he will eventually get his vengeance. But he also asks Margaery if she still wants to be a queen. Her response was that she wants to be THE queen.

Later, we see Littlefinger and Tywin taking about an alliance with the Tyrells as they have the most fertile farmlands and so would be most anxious to end the war as soon as possible so that everybody can get home to harvest the crops before the winter comes.

In the last episode, you see Tywin make note of the fact that they will march immediately and all through the night so that they can get to King's Landing in time.

So it should be obvious to anyone what is going to happen. The Tyrells will fight with the Lannisters against Stannis and Margaery would be engaged to Joffrey.

Sansa is now just a hostage.

book 3 spoiler/season 3 theory:

spoiler (click to show/hide)
I don't really remember what happened to Theon in the books. I remember TAKE WINTERFELL > LOST WINTERFELL >>>>>>>>>>>>>> REEK

So I'm assuming that the Iron Born gave Theon to Ramsay and I HOPE we won't see from him again Reek is introduced.

related to spoilers for the books yadda yadda:
spoiler (click to show/hide)
Littlefinger revealing his intentions in getting Sanda outta there. Or maybe i don't remember that from the book. The reveal that Littlefinger was the one who orchestrated having Dontos save Sansa. I hope they still go that route however. Pretty much have Dontos do everything and don't bring Littlefinger back into it until the scene on the boat.

re: Jon's arc, book vs. tv show

(long winded and probably pointless):
spoiler (click to show/hide)
I know a lot of people are angry about the changes made. A lot of people wanted to see Jon and Qhorin run from the Wildings for several episodes only to get overwhelmed and then forced to fight each other. It's great in the book. However it's great in the book because there's a lot of time spent with it. You get multiple chapters I'm pretty sure that tells that story. Here we have 2-3 minutes, maybe twice an episode MAX to tell that story. And in doing that you also sacrifice setting up the Ygritte story. In the books the love affair between Ygritte and Jon is setup when she's taken by Jon well before he "joins" the wildings. Problem is you can't tell both stories in the time given. With both options, Ygritte's story is going to win out because she's the character that lasts longer. She's the character that pushes Jon to growing up and stop being naive. "You know nothing Jon Snow" is a memorable line because it gets to Jon that he DOESN'T know anything.

In the show they setup Jon "betraying" Qhorin just fine. When Jon kills Qhorin you can see he's both angry and shocked he did it. It's after Qhorin is killed that Jon realizes what has just happened and understands what he must do. It tells the same story in less time. The ONLY real complain I have is that Ghost never shows up.

Was entertaining but totally shit on the book like most of the stuff this season.

Cutting the entire House of the Undying out of the story was PRETTY FUCKING SHITTY :(  So much cool stuff happens there.  Goddamnit.  Dany's story sucks ass in the TV version.  Jon's is pretty crap in the TV version too.  The rest of the stuff is changed but fine.

And TV only viewers can't go defensive style because they don't know what they missed with House of the Undying.  It was like BLACKWATER.  A major major amazing scenario that was the climax of Dany's story and none of it made it into the tv version.  It also kind of fucks up her stories for the next season since she is reflecting on things she learned during that scenario which now does not exist in the TV version.

My view is that most book readers who defend the changes read the books a decade ago, only have a vague recollection of the story, and are fine with the TV series since it seems good enough and is entertaining.

Since I just read CoK for the first time like 8 months ago, it's very, very fresh in my mind and I notice every singe change and all the bad changes (there are some fine changes) stick out like a sore thumb.

I really enjoyed this season.  I thought the season finale was kinda meh, but I still enjoyed it overall.  I'm still on book five, so I don't know how all of it ties together so far, but I think they're doing just fine.

Honestly, you guys wouldn't be as interested in the show if EVERY DETAIL played itself out on the show as it did in the books.

It doesn't need EVERY DETAIL.

People aren't pissed because it didn't contain all 1000 pages in 10eps.  People are pissed because they do things like cut Arya's entire storyline which was the longest character plot in the entire book 2!  It's when they cut major subplots that were kind of good or important that it's really annoying.

Eh, I'll have to watch it again. It started strong and just got ridiculous. Didn't like the Others, House Of the Undying, Jon's stuff (outside of the final shot). Nearly every arc felt like it reached an anticlimatic ending.

Everything in King's Landing continues to be strong, even the Ros stuff thanks to Varys. Maybe Varys is sending her to Dany after all

How can any book reader defend this shit is beyond me.

Couldn't they just put a wig of the coffee boy and give him a harp? shit I think they haven't even mentioned Rhaegar since the first episode, smh.

Ooooooor you're someone who simultaneously has worked at adapting written works to film/tv before and doesn't put the books on a pedestal like a fucking fucktard of fuckery because (and I know this is gonna shock you bitches) THEY'RE NOT THAT FUCKING GOOD FOR THE LOVE OF FUCK.

WWWAAAAAAH WAAAAH WAAAH, THE PROPERTY I REALLY ENJOYED THAT WAS LIKELY NEVER TO GET A TV/FILM TREATMENT GOT ONE AND THEY'RE NOT CATERING TO MY UNREALISTIC EXPECTATIONS OF WHAT'S POSSIBLE WITH AN ADAPTATION OF WHAT'S ESSENTIALLY PULP LIT SO I'M GONNA GO CRY ON THE INTERNETS ABOUT IT

You people all need to go eat fucking shotguns.  Happy Monday!

wait so at the end of the last episode the hound and sansa are running off together

and now sansa's just chilling in the royal court?

you should probably re-watch that episode.

LOOK. WE WON'T KNOW WHAT THEY'RE PLANNING TO DO WITH THE SERIES UNTIL SEASON 4/5. NOT ALL ADAPTATIONS ARE STRAIGHT ADAPTATIONS. JUST ENJOY IT FOR WHAT IT IS NOW, AND SHUT THE FUCK UP. YOU ARE BITCHING ABOUT SEASON FUCKING 2 OF A SUPPOSEDLY 6-8 SEASON TELEVISION SERIES YOU FUCKING STUPID FUCKS.

IF YOU HAVE ALREADY READ GOT AND WATCHED GOT'S FIRST SEASON, YOU WOULD ALREADY KNOW THAT THEY DO CERTAIN THINGS IN A SPECIFIC ORDER. IN THE BOOK, ARYA AND MICAH ARE PLAYING AT SWORDS AT THE TRIDENT. IN THE SHOW, ARYA AND MICAH ARE PLAYING AT SWORDS IN WINTERFELL. IN THE SHOW, THEY DON'T EVEN EXPLAIN THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE TRIDENT OR WHO THE BLOODY FUCK RHAEGAR TARGARYEN IS. THIS IS CLEARLY DUE TO PACING. YOU CANNOT FIT EVERY SINGLE DETAIL IN A 60 MINUTE TELEVISION SHOW, HOWEVER, IF YOU STRETCH THE SERIES, YOU CAN EVENTUALLY FIT SHIT INTO THE NARRATIVE AT DIFFERENT TIMES/LOCATIONS WITH DIFFERENT INTERPRETATIONS THAT TELL THE SAME FUCKING STORY BUT IN A DIFFERENT WAY.

FUCK.

IF YOU WANT MINUTIAE DETAILS, READ THE BOOK. THAT IS WHAT BOOKS ARE FOR.
