Either way, the Germans aren't stupid - they know Denmark into the knockout phase represents a much more attractive situation than having Holland or Portugal in there..... then again.... all hinges on Portugal beating the dutch to undo everything.

re: Redknapp - the whole "he's taken the Spurs team as far as they can go" - YES, that's absolutely true - the only problem is he's taken Spurs to their ABSOLUTE LIMIT. The delusion that -another manager- i.e. Moyes can somehow propel them above Man Utd, Man City, Arsenal, Chelsea etc.. ? it's stupid.

Love or hate him, Redknapp has got the team where they are and that's the peak - this has a horrible smell of Leeds United about it (who famously sacked O'Leary for -only- getting them to 3rd in the league ALL THE TIME - next manager got them relegated out of the Premiership - and THEN out of the Championship! Lol - from "finishing 3rd? not good enough" to dropping two divisions!)

Teams need to know their place - for Spurs? 5-8th is acceptable performance, anything else is a bonus. I expect a very painful couple of years for Spurs - i expect flirtation with the bottom half of the division. Especially with Moyes who has at least the backing of supporters sympathetic to his lack of funds... with Spurs? not going to happen.

looking at the past is a fools erand - look at Ipswich (my beautiful beloved Ipswich!) - in 2001 we finished 5th! we flirted with SECOND! on a shoestring budget but the harsh reality is you can't point back at past achievements when the league moves so quickly... the Jol team would have finished lower down the league than Harry's - though no idea what Jol would have done (he's done very well at Fulham, he's clearly a good manager... but...)

Spain and Croatia through. Italy look good, it's just whether the luck is with them but i suspect the Irish spirit + trapatoni = curse for the final game.

Nice game for us, although a very disappointing showing from the netherlands. Really strange that the inventors of total football played with a basically two separate teams in offense and defense. How long it took the netherlands to get the ball rolling after they got the ball was weak and they put not nearly enough pressure on us. The goal for Oranje was pretty much a great move by Persie but no good team play. Basically all the predictions how Holland was in a tactical disadvantage came true.

This leaves germany in a great position even though we could still be eliminated. I think Portugal has the advantage against Holland because they actually have a solid defense and can wait what they will do. Germany against Denmark will probably be a draw like Dcharlie said, because even though I think Denmark tactically is the worst match for Germany, I don't believe the have the power to win this. If they try to go all out, it should be easy for germany to score against them.

Not to discount Sweden as they aren't bad at all but from the Ukraine game there's little to suggest they will score more than 1 goal -tops-. I -can't stand- Carrol but as long as he's played as a target man then i think we can have some good chances off feeding off the wide boys.

It's unlikely to be pretty - but i expect an England performance this time.

the best thing about the goal is the nudge to get infront of the defender by Welbeck and then sucking him so he can turn -and- backheel it in. Walcott is playing on a forwards instinct of getting to the byline and cutting it back - all the hard work is making the space down the flank in the first place, but yeah - all in all, a great goal.

p.s. why do people not like the England black kit? didn't get one myself , but got one for the boy and it's a really nice strip.

It's because the head to head results count before the absolute goal difference.

The qualifiers are:

1. Head to Head Result
2. Goal difference from head to head results (if 3 teams have the same amount of points, only the matches between those count)
3. Amount of goals made head to head
4. Goal difference from all matches
5. Amount of goals all matches

It's confusing but I don't think it's that bad. Results against teams with the same amount of points as you should be more important than if you have one blow out victory against a shitty team.

um - yes - that's my point. for draws it's rewarding scoring draws ahead of no-scoring draws. The big problem i have with the rule is that in a group of 4 teams playing 3 games this is going to come up and as per your example : if Spain drew 0-0 with Croatia and Italy had won, Italy would have topped the group even though Spain had scored more goals. If Spain drew 2-2 though, then Spain top the group - Croatia go through - and ITALY go out. But yes, Spain (if it had been a draw) SHOULD have finished top. Again, the groups are too small to discount results against non-tied teams, it removes the importance of -one third- your teams performance.
