I don't see where they got the "GTAIV+RDR combined size", that's some Rockstar Special Brand bullshit. Now, Rockstar is typically pretty damn good at level design so it'll probably be fun to navigate regardless of the size, but that map is significantly smaller than I thought, given their comments. It's a missed opportunity that there isn't some sort of island separate from the mainland.

iirc they're including underwater and stuff in that estimate.

world looks plenty big.  too big for only 16 players :'(

I agree, the world looks fine.

Okay, so has anyone determined if the 360 or PS3 version is the one to get if I don't want to wait for the PC version? I don't pay for XBL anymore and can go with either.

...Fuck, I really should wait for the PC version.

We don't know yet, but all gameplay footage shown so far is from the ps3 version because Rockstar has a marketing deal with Sony.

I'm wondering if these are the collectibles now, instead of pigeons:

I'd be stunned if the marketing footage to-date is from anything other than a latest-DirectX driven PC.

STUNNED.

Oh yeah it looks pretty much PC. But they're saying it is ps3 and all button prompts are ps3. The gameplay trailers are deffo ps3 unless they're using kits.

Hmm. According to early game impressions the game runs smooth as shit on both ps3 and 360 and the graphics displayed in trailers is how the game looks but with worse aliasing. :obama

Gtaforums is going nuts because V's car controls aren't like IV's. Guys!!! NO MORE BOAT CARS :rejoice

I watched leaked video.

Driving looks GREAT. You know how in IV when you bump into a wall and you just want to readjust and it takes FOREVER? Nope. It is arcade as fuck. Dude is drifting and turning but it still looks like it requires some skill.

Shooting is right out of Max Payne 3. Looks really smooth.

All crappy physics from IV appear to be gone. Only thing that I saw that reminded me of IV was a bailout animation. He bails, lands on his stomach, and it takes him a while to get back up. Aside from that it doesn't look like you're controlling a nuclear carrier anymore.

Looks like fun. I wish they'd used a more common car though; the sportier cars in IV are less swimmy than the average ones. Man, for that matter, I'd like to see them make that run in an ambulance or Patriot.

Still, it gives me hope!

TRU has a deal where

if you buy it on launch date - you get a $10 GC

if you wait until the 19th - 21st - you can use this coupon to get GTAV for 20% off

either way - you also get a Rockstar game priced $19.99 or less for free

Change of plans - apparently the free rockstar game is only valid 17 - 18

So it's either

$10GC + Free Rockstar Game

or

20% off (25% off if you use a TRU credit card)

GTA 4 (at least for me) was missing that sense of wonder. The joy of discover.

Well..the first time I drove past Vinewood I was blown away like when you first realize that you can go up that mountain, in SA.

And it's not the sheer size of the map. It's the little things. Everything is so full of little details that the game makes you feel small in comparison of the game world.. like anything I played so far.

I don't know what the context of it is in GTA, but having played KID I can say it is only stupid. Yet, it seemed to be a defining thing that came up in every western review of the game. To the point where (I'm not sure what the website is) some website seem to call for the end of Suda 51 because of it. It really seemed to overshadow the game's posties such as the combat and style. Yet, it's kind of a small thing in the game and it's completely tongue n cheek to the point I'm not sure why anyone would be offended by it. It's such a simple joke, playing up on men looking at women's cleavage basically. Hell sounds like GTA is somewhat creepier. Now, KID is no doubt a smaller game then GTA but in KID the giglo missions are also completely optional( I did 2). It wasn't a great game, but it I truly think it got really dumb critiques because of a really kind of harmless mode. And GTAV will not get those critiques at all most likely.

I hate to do that "western journalism is BIAS against Japanese games", but since KID is fresh on my mind it just seems pretty unfair.

Yeah, I don't know the context of it in GTA. At the very least, you're not looking at different body parts for points to get to fill up the blood in your erect penis meter, so GTAV's still coming out looking better no matter what though that's not saying much.

It wouldn't surprise me if that minigame is a direct, deliberate ploy for coverage tbh.

Kids are going to buy this game, mothers are going to see their kids pressing 'x' to touch tits. Everyone knows that the sure-fire way to short-circuit the brain of a parent, especially an American parent - is to show them tits that kids might see. Shit will hit fans.

this world really deserves to be nuked

Yeah, buddy, that ONE site!

Being critical does not mean it warrants lower review score, moron. It's in the text.

Eurogamer, and destructoid are far more critical of the game than any gtaiv review I read barring Sterling's review of it.

From the Euro gamer review.

"These are serious and intense moments, but Trevor is too shallow and unconvincing to justify them, and instead his antics derail the narrative. He's such a distraction to Michael that his family become a footnote rather than a subplot, while Franklin is almost completely forgotten until a bit of last-minute catch-up near the end of the game. The outcome ties up loose ends, but I'd lost interest by then."

meh.

The guy is lamenting the very thing some of you hated about GTA 4.

Quote
What's missing in GTA V's story is a sense that the characters have been painted into a corner by various machinations beyond their control, like Niko Bellic of GTA IV

It reads like a very apologist review trying to take a moral stand which annoys me.

Also in general I don't like when reviews overly concentrate on the meta about a game unless the game is almost solely focused on the narrative aspects. Too much talk about narrative tends to mean the writer is a wanna be book or movie reviewer.

That being said I'm glad the game is finally here so people can actually talk about the game versus all the other bullshit including GTA 4, Saint's Row, etc.
