It was just another episode of RAW- awful as the 20th anniversary tribute show - but OK as a RAW show I guess.  I liked the backstage Team Hell No/Rhodes Scholars segment and the Rock/Punk stuff and that was about it, although I missed most of the cage match with Cena/Ziggler.

Although think about this.  On the RAW 20TH ANNIVERSARY TRIBUTE SHOW, HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION CM PUNK had a match against...BRODUS CLAY.  Who admitted to happily "shucking and jiving."

Holy shit, I haven't seen a corkscrew in a long time. I miss over the top finishers  :(

Over the top finishers are less common after Benoit scandal. Over the top is also very safe averse and took risky. Finishers like Carlitos finisher have cause the people who use them (Carlito in particular) to have fucked up bodies and addicted to pain killers. Shit sucks.

i really liked the timed matches. vickie said ziggler would get number 1 or 2. he's getting a lot of heat for rumble.

that said they're still making him look weak as fuck. he needed big e AND aj to beat the miz. the timed matches were good because people (ziggler and aj) would get involved and try to have them go over the clock.

speaking of ziggler. he seems to be getting used to swagging on people. he kissed Aj and did a WHOO! hopefully it stays in  his promos. Dude needs Ric Flair swag.

cena had the worst promo ever. but cm punk and rock feud is just straight fire. probably punk's final raw as champ, and if so, they went out with a bang. the shield attacked the rock, so here's hoping a rock vs the shield thing after rumble. :hyper DEAN AMBROSE VS THE ROCK :o

Rock is going to focus on Mania and keep on doing weekly promos until his inevitable match with John Cena (again).  Then he's outta there (again).

RAW sucked.  I did like the Punk/Heyman/McMahon segment, but Heyman taking center stage and the whole retardo story of Rock being barred from the building, then just walking down the ramp with a TICKET was atrocious.  There were some decent beat the clock matches, but as the go-home Rumble build-up show, that was just awful.

And yeah, holy shit at Cena's promo at the end.  They should have cut him off with the inevitable "everybody runs down and rumbles" ending segment much quicker.

It probably didn't help that I watched some older 80s and 90s Rumble matches before RAW yesterday.   :lol

Forgot about the Team Hell No segment.  That was great and is the kind of pro wrasslin' silliness I love to see.

Notes  from someone who was at the show:

Quote
They are trying really hard to get Alberto Del Rio over as a baby face. He did a promo for I believe the WWE App where he said that Big Show would go down just like the Ravens will go down to the Niners, then said 'Who's got it better than us? Nobody" which is the Niners slogan. It can be found on the WWE website (and of course, the WWE App) if you want to check it out. They didn't have the crowd mic'd into it on the WWE website, but it got the biggest pop of the night, even bigger than the Rock.

After The Rock got taken down by the Shield, he said 'You got me this time. But I promise you I will be WWE Champion."

The dark match after air was John Cena and Sheamus beat Big Show and Wade Barrett. Cena getting the pin on Big Show. Then Del Rio fought Show off and ended the night giving everyone high fives.

My theory on the Shield?  They are not aligned with Punk...they are Heyman's boys.  I could actually see Heyman turning on Punk after he loses the belt and sending the Shield to beat him down.  This all leads to Brock Lesnar's return (he is still on contact, IIRC, and should be having a Mania match), although they may be going with Brock vs. Taker.

I like the idea that The Shield work for Heyman. Punk "beats" Rock at Rumble with the help of The Shield. Afterward on Raw, it's revealed that The Shield report to Heyman. Punk FREAKS OUT and because of his own ego, he can't live with the fact his wins were due to someone else's influence. He then starts GTSing everyone - starting with Heyman - no matter their affiliation, heel or face, and at Elimination Chamber he loses the belt. Cue face turn for Mania.

I like that as a story.

They were televised and later on VHS. They didn't have a weekly shown until 1993. Before that it was.ppv.and the occasional thing on saturdays iirc.

They had weekly shows before that.  Superstars on the weekends and stuff like "Tuesday Night Titans," IIRC.

All I remember as a kid were the shows on Saturday (Sunday?) mornings and the PPVs.

Most of the shows pretty much never had the bigger-name guys wrestling, so it made PPV bouts a huge deal.

Anyway the wrestler specific VHS tapes had an assortment of matches and sometimes a montage, the Warrior one had Blackend effectively introducing me to Metallica and Heavy Metal :rock Most of the matches though were The Warrior Vs. The Undertaker. So for the longest time I thought they had a long standing feud, it was definitely one of my favorites as a kid. When I look Warrior or Takers history there's no mention of it, until I stumbled upon a comment about how they faced off a lot in house shows  :lol

I specifically remember the body bag match and that match is specifically mentioned as a house show  :lol

Well, I definitely remember seeing the body bag thing on the show that aired after Saturday morning cartoons, either "live" or as a replay.

The worst thing about Cena's fucking awful promo is knowing that the endgame at Wrestlemania will most likely see Cena back with the title.

God, I fucking hate Cena and his stupid fucking promos. He couldn't make up anything more stupid than what I heard Monday. It was like ear cancer.

I predict Punk won't smell the title for the rest of the year.

It is also likely that Ziggler will cash in and lose since he can't even beat John Cena with AJ, Big E, Jesus H Christ, and the twelve fucking dwarves interfering.

Ziggy's gonna cash in on a beaten Del Rio post the last man standing match at RR maybe? I hate how they finally freed him of Vivkie only to make him look even more shit by having two people to hide behind.  :yuck

I think it's a safe bet that Ziggler is cashing in at one of the next three PPVs.  Would assume it's either the Rumble or at Mania.

LOLOL at the Smackdown! tapings results- Rock/Punk were there and they made the beatdown Rock got completely irrelevant.   :lol ::)

CENA TRASHED BACKSTAGE

Quote
Both PWInsider.com and WrestlingObserver.com have reported that Cena's promo was so bad, he actually had heat backstage. His promo was such a steaming pile of **** that the other wrestlers in the back were left scratching their heads wondering what in the hell this man was doing talking about video games with children in the audience when he was supposed to be selling us on the Royal Rumble match. - Cageside.com

PWInsider didn't report it as heat as much as a topic of conversation. No one can truly have heat with Cena or they will end up like Colt Cabana or Alex Riley.

No. John Cena drastically wants to change his character but WWE aka Vince won't let him. He was given free reign with that promo and it was shit. He should be talking less and doing scripted promos, not talking on the mic like Punk. That said he's still not popular in the back because he's the golden boy. Either he's not putting people over because he's got HBK GOAT ego or creative doesn't WANT him to put people over and he goes along with it. Considering his willingness to put over people like Punk, I gotta say it's probably creative.

What happened to Riley?

Cena constantly took verbal shits on him backstage in front of others. Riley attacked him back verbally and his push ended and he became a Jobber to Jobbers because John Cena was upset.

These sound like dirt sheet garbage.  I'd take it with a grain of salt.  I can definitely believe that Cena got heat for that awful promo though.

It's not dirt sheet. Remember Cena walking out on Punk in the middle of a promo in 2011? It's a part of that. Cena is stated as being very annoyed with his position within the company and it doesn't take much logic to know that for Vince Cena > all. CM Punk and The Rock are headlining Rumble and this dude is still at the center of attention. You can call it what you want. Either he goes along with the shitty booking like everyone else, or he has an almost Hogan like ego in that he refuses to put people over. The other week he took what, two or three of Dolph's finishers AND one of Big E's and STILL KICKED OUT? No. He has to be calling these matches.

ON TV?  LOL dude.  This isn't WCW in 2000...that was scripted.

Again, sounds like dirt sheet talk.  I'm sure Cena is very annoyed with his position as the top guy in the company!

Quote

It's Vince.  Not Cena.  And what about HHH?   :lol

And everyone gets punished in some way for fucking up.  Even HHH, when he was the #1 guy in 2002-2003, did something stupid (can't remember what it was) and was left off RAW that week and put on Sunday Night Heat instead.

Quote
CM Punk and The Rock are headlining Rumble and this dude is still at the center of attention. You can call it what you want.

The Rock segments are what have drawn the most attention.  I don't agree that Cena is at the center of attention for the Rumble, but Cena IS the top guy in the actual rumble match and I can understand closing out the show with a rumble match segment.  What I cannot understand, like everyone else, is the awful, shit-filled, wtf, are you on something, promo that Cena belched out on Monday night.

Cena is not booking his own matches.  He is being told what to do like everyone else.  "Super Cena" has been like this for years now.  That is what everyone complains about.  He is like Hogan in that he is the top babyface and the guy selling tickets/goods, but nobody ever talks about his ego being like Hogan or any of the kliq people, for that matter.

The biggest problem with Cena I've noticed is that he doesn't sell his losses.  He comes right back with a smile and starts up with more dumb promos every time.

Cena has been a face for what...going on 9 years now?  And he's played the same character role (dropping the thuganomics gimmick) for like 6-7 years.  It's stale and it's boring.  But the WWE won't turn him heel again because the kiddies love him and he sells merchandise.
