I don't think they'll do any storyline stuff about it.  They'll put up a graphic before Smackdown! this week and maybe RAW next week about his passing and that will be it- then he'll go into the hall of fame.

It feels to me like the Rock/Cena feud, Taker/Punk feud, and HHH/Lesnar feud all have solid build-up going for them and everything else for Mania has little to no direction.  Del Rio's feud with Thwagger is awful.

Is Big Show suddenly turning face again?  LOL.

I think the lack of HHH, Rock, and even Cena hurt the show overall too.

Watching Raw on my dvr to catch up with the storyline before Mania and John Cena come out. I was all "wait who is he wrestling again?" And then it took me ten seconds to remember the rock. Dude hasn't been on the show in a month. If I were a wrestler for wwe I would be PISSED.

WWE has been putting Brock on when the Rock wasn't there and Rock on when Brock wasn't there.

I think everyone is gonna be around now that there's two weeks to Mania.

And the build-up has been awful.  It doesn't help that HHH, Rock, Brock, and Undertaker are all in the top cards and generally  don't do jack shit on TV now.

Even Cena was absent from a show or two.    :lol

Yeah it's really, really bad. What bad blood feuds are there for us to care about? Who are the celebs? Isn't there usually a celeb in a match for the fuck of it? I guess they figure THE ROCK is a big enough of a deal to get all the buys by himself...

The rock was on Leno the other night. Didn't bring the belt, didn't talk about mania, didnt even mention wwe. Just complete burial. Vince was dumb to put the strap on this dude. He has no respect for his past or the people who helped him along the way.

To be fair, ryback and Henry is a good booking match up. If Henry weren't injured ryback would beat him clean and coming out looking stronger than ever. Good move but Mizark was injured at a house show.

It is just a thing I get from Dwayne Johnson. I talked to Oscar about it and he agrees. I respect the guy a lot don't get me wrong. But it often feels like he casually walks over people who helped build him. Probably not even knowingly. Since this is the wrestling thread, I think the mankind feud is a great example. Almost kills Mick in a match with his kids watching and acts like nothing happened even after he "won" the belt from him, at least from what we saw in BTM.

It is just a feeling I have. So I don't put it past him to come out of retirement for ten years, not bother getting into wrestling shape, get the main event TWO YEARS IN A ROW, despite being a part timer, get the belt, not advertise it, nor show up to a show for a month with the biggest event in wrestling biz in just a few weeks? WWE needs Rock more than he needs them but holy shit. Tell me he isn't shitting on his "family" ( his words)?

Anyways, feuds for this Mania I'm looking forward to:

Punk v Taker - I dunno, I think it has potential and while people say it is cartoonish, I think it is deeply personal for Undertaker as a character in terms of storyline. I also think it is a fantastic end note and tribute to Paul Bearer.

Swagger v Del Rio - Latino Power v the Tea Party? Fuck yes.

THE SHIELD - because they're the shield.

Will be watching The Shield match, because the shield
Will be watching PunkTaker because Punk
Will be watching Lesnar vs HHH because Lesnar, however I will turn this off when I sense HHH's victory coming, I will not have the match ruined by Hunters fat fuck smug face winning

I will be watching nothing else, because it's trash.

Tell me he isn't shitting on his "family" ( his words)?

Real talk.

They gave him a job and promoted him and gave him a chance to become a celebrity.  He made them a lot of money in ad revenue, merchandising, ticket and PPV sales.  Everyone made a lot of money and they parted ways.  He's an actor now, not a wrestler, though he's come back a couple times to do the wrasslin thing on a part time basis, which is a big deal because he's a bigger star than anyone they have on the roster full time.  In the history of WWE and wrestling in general, this is comparatively a very happy ending.

There's no reasonable idea of what his obligations are to his former employer that he's not living up to.  All he's doing is disappointing some fans who have inflated expectations, and are making him the target of their feels.  Yeah, he could do more to promote Wrestlemania, but the company could have been clear upfront about what they wanted.  Actors tend to promote their upcoming movies, not the TV series where they're guest starring for a few episodes as a favor to the producer.

I agree with everything Mandark said, and perhaps the reason he didn't mention Mania was because he was there specifically to promote G.I. Joe 2 (and everyone was told to focus on that).  But it still seems odd that nothing about him as the WWE champ or about WWE at all was mentioned.

The rock's return has been the worst I've ever seen of any big time wrestling star. He's just so slow and lame now, his character is basically the babyface Rocky Mavia that everyone shat on before we got The Rock except he gets cheers cause of his history. The Rock fanboys eat it up, my cousin who is 2 years older than me damn near cried when I told him Punk carried him in the match and the reason he doesn't show up is cause he can't go anywhere.

No it's not.  He is very much the same ol' babyface Rock character that people got tired of in the early 2000s.  Then he turned heel and was awesome again.

Quote
I mean no one was expecting some HBK level shit. Bret came back from injuries and not wrestling for a decade, Sting went to a retirement home, etc. But what's The Rock's excuse? He should still be able to go. I mean we could have had this shitty Rock/Cena match again without the belt buckle they're shilling for now. Punk deserves that title, he's more than proven that.

He's bulked up quite a bit.  Part of the problem seems to be a lack of endurance.

Quote
Also what is up with the weak ass card this year? Punk/Taker, Swagger/Del Rio and Hunter/Brock make sense and have a chance of shining, but man does the rest look hastly thrown together. Why wasn't that Barrett/Miz/Jericho IC match not saved for WM? Who the fuck cares about Ryback/Mark Henry? Why is the Shield wasted like that?

Definitely.  I have no hype for Mania right now.  HHH/Brock (again), Punk/Taker (again?), and Rock/Cena (again) are fine.  Del Rio/junkie Thwagger?  Who cares.  Jerico and fucking FANDANGO?  Are you kidding me?  Poor Jericho.  He already verbally destroyed Fandago last week, too.  WWE doesn't seem to know what direction to go in right now.  Ryback and the Shield went from main event stuff to being lost in the midcard.  Really that's everyone else other than HHH, Brock, Punk, Taker, Rock, and Cena.  And the problem here is that only Punk and Cena are on the roster full-time.

Mandark, I figured they gave him the belt to market the PPV and be the face of the WWE for a while to build up hype but he's not even doing that, or can barely make it to a show.

Hollywood, CA AND Stamford, Conn. – February 19, 2013 – Paramount Pictures and WWE (NYSE: WWE) today announced a promotional partnership to support Paramount’s upcoming feature film releases, G.I. JOE: RETALIATION and PAIN & GAIN. The cross-platform partnership includes integration opportunities on WWE programming at the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view event as well as appearances by film star and WWE Champion Dwayne “The Rock®” Johnson on Monday Night Raw® and WrestleMania® 29. In addition to storyline integration on its TV broadcasts, WWE will utilize all of its assets, including live events, digital and social media to promote the films and engage millions of fans each week.

G.I. JOE: RETALIATION is a co-presenting partner of Elimination Chamber with integration during the pay-per-view as well as storyline integration with stars D.J. Cotrona and Adrianne Palicki on Monday Night Raw on USA Network, leading up to the film’s release on March 29.

It makes a lot more sense if you think of him as a 40 year old actor who was a wrestler a decade ago, and remember that Paramount has spent way more money on Wrestlemania and Dwayne Johnson than WWE has on Wrestlemania and The Rock.

It would be nice for fans if he took several months to get in game shape rather than the roided up physique he maintains for his movies, and hit the road so he could make regular appearances, but that's just not going to happen.  Making and promoting movies are his full time jobs, and trying to be the old Rock would mean a serious commitment eating into that.  I think Vince went into this with his eyes open and I'd be surprised if it's bad for business.

I never argued this especially with THE ROCK headlining Wrestlemania.

Even I admit they fall back on old stars. I never argued they didn't. However, I did argue that WWE has a lot of current talent and there's potential for good stuff. It's such an utter shame they're not using it for Mania.

I don't know what's going on though. TLC, Elimination Chamber, and Royale Rumble were great PPVs. They had all the potential in the world to build up a great Wrestlemania, but the past month has had me going what the fuck.

And to be fair, they kind of still are pushing their younger/newer talent. Alberto del Rio v Jack Swagger for instance, even Ryback v Marky mark.

This is what Himu posted before:

Cesaro does not have a feud with Khali and has been extremely well booked for months, the tag team division is just getting started as they're building up their tag teams without Team Hell No to support it, Sin Cara is a failure but your initial point was that Sin Cara being a failure is a slight on Triple H when picking up Mistico is a good business move failure or not. Rock vs Punk has had one tv appearance so far, and yet it still has heat.

Your complaints mostly seem to be,"WHY ISN'T IT GOOD NOW?" When it is clear to pretty much everyone else that they are slowly improving the thing. In the past year we have had Cesaro, The Shield, Ryback, and Big E introduced to the roster and placed in near good mid card and main event roles. WWE is clearly trying to create new talent and superstars.

I'm open-minded about the future, especially because of NXT, the handling of The Shield, the handling of Ryback in recent months, and Cesaro. Their use of talent from the indies and developmentals has been spot on. Talent wise, I don't think there has ever been a point in the company's history where they have had as much pure workers assembled as they do now. 2013 could be a fantastic year if utilized well.

My overall point is that current WWE is not as bad as you think it is, and more than that, it's certainly on an upswing. But no, you have to go on about how terrible it is, week in, week out. Even I, with the acknowledgement that it can be average at times, see the potential and keep watching because I'm entertained. Please exit this thread until you can actually contribute instead of being a nostalgia 90's fellatio tard. The real kicker is the pretense that you are right because wrestling used to be so much better! when it also used to be so much worse.

Watching Raw, Smackdown, Main Event, and NXT every week, I get ample amount of passion, love, and technical prowess, and talent from the WWE shows I watch. I'm thoroughly entertained and have not been this entertained with WWE in ten years.

Anyways, from NXT, I think these guys are the future of WWE and have a lot of charisma. I think NXT is a good idea of what HHH plans for WWE once he takes over and turns it back into a full fledged wrestling company. My opinion at least.

Bo Dallas

Bo Dallas  :lol

But yeah, they once again ignored their up and coming younger guys and are focusing on the same old shit for Mania.

If there's one thing that will legitimately surprise me, it would be Punk ending the streak.

Just don't see it happening.  Taker is going to retire with that streak unbroken.

Could be a slip up by Punk, or could be taken as "Taker is going to pin me but I'm going to do a post-match beatdown afterwards."

I dunno if anyone SHOULD beat the streak. However I'd be down for a stunner during that match. :drool

HHH has gone on record as saying he thinks it should never be broken and he's generally in charge now I think. As of last year mania was still very much Vince's thing but I doubt he feels much differently from HHH and even if he did I imagine 'taker and everyone else involved would have to agree to the streak ending.

There's a rumor going around that hbk will betray hhh at mania and set up for hhh vs hbk retirement final match at mania 30. I'm down for that.

Oh Sin Cara. You were so good that they had to turn Del Rio face in order to have somebody to sell to the Spanish folk.

My ubersmark friend is not even ordering mania this year the build has been so shit! I could maybe order it myself and pay the ungodly price all alone or go to some stupid restaurant and put up with idiots or just find a stream I guess. :gloomy

I usually don't care, but I'm very interested to see what the buyrate is going to be like after such a lackluster build-up.  I'm not ordering Mania either; paid for it the last few years, but this year it's gonna be streaming.

There's a rumor going around that hbk will betray hhh at mania and set up for hhh vs hbk retirement final match at mania 30. I'm down for that.

That really doesn't make any sense, but it's wrasslin' and sense doesn't need to be made.    :lol  But HBK has said numerous times that he didn't want to come back to do any in-ring stuff...

...which we've heard a million times before.  Even Bret Hart had a "return match" with Vince.

Anything in particular?

The giant sweat stain between HHH's legs when Brock picked him up and The Miz being the most awesome present ever, I'm sure.  What else would the kids be taking about?
