Don't even invoke Obsidian on this.  Man, if that gets delayed for years and has financial problems...argh.

I haven't kickstarted anything I don't have confidence will deliver me a product in a reasonable timeframe.

Needless to say, I haven't kickstarted any Doublefine or Obsidian stuff.   :jawalrus

Kickstarter was never going to be the land of milk and honey that people made it out to be and that was obvious from the get go.  You only have yourselves to blame if you funded anything.

you expect that literally the first time they'll ever be on-time, on-budget with a game is when they *don't* have a publisher watching over them?

you're a funny guy bebs, that's why i loves ya

Because they raised 4 million and considering the graphics i think they will make it.

Have these been posted?

Kickstarter is already delivering on its promist, bro. Not my problem you guys don't ever ready this thread until something bad happens to one project and you're all like "trololololl TOLD you guys it was just a scam, enjoy playing NOTHING but bitter ters!!". I'll just keep playing Giana Sisters, FTL, Legends of Dawn, Leisure Suit Larry, and Kinetic Void until Shadowrun Returns comes out later this year. :jawalrus

I think smaller scale projects are inherently safer because everybody realizes the limited scope of what is capable on a smaller budget. It's when the budgets get bigger and the moon and the sky and stars are promised when things potentially start to get dicey.

Broken Age looks to have spent a fortune on art assets.  I'm guessing this will limp along and be released in some shit form next summer.  I'm also sure the second Kickstarter was to fund the ongoing production of this game, Silicon Knights style.   It's basically what the videogame industry has always been, but laid bare for the public to see.  Suckers.

I don't really think this is a problem because Tim didn't really know if the Kickstarter would even succeed, let alone grow much larger than they anticipated. However, this still doesn't excuse Tim's inability to scale a project to its budget. He's been in this industry his entire fucking life and he still does this?

It's no wonder all he gets is cold shoulders from publishers. I would kick his fat ass to the curb, too.

Not having the barest idea of a design isn't a problem?  WAT.  The guy got 8 times his original amount, and apparently needs double that to finish the game.  So his game is 16 times as big as he originally intended, so that means he didn't intend it as anything, he just wanted money to make whatever popped into his head at a later date.  It's not an issue of scaling his project properly, it's an issue of scaling his project at all.  I suspect Obsidian will run into the same problems, hopefully not as bad because I actually care about that game (not that I gave it any money, I can buy it when it comes out like a normal person).

I kickstarted Wasteland and Shovelknight.

I kickstarted Shovel Knight, Reap (GAFer, unsuccessful), Paper Knight's Story (GAFer), and the game dev tools 8BitBoss (unsuccessful) and Spriter.

Only other project I've backed is Light Table, which is a pretty crazy looking IDE.

I like small scale stuff, easier to keep up with updates and stuff and the smaller scale guys need the cash more so I feel more useful.  :jawalrus

I recently backed Hat in Time.  Finally an indie is trying to tap into that N64 nostalgia (plus I had been following it before the kickstarter and they showed an early video game instead of promises).

Steve, I guess I didn't want to believe that he had absolutely no idea before this Kickstarter, but sadly you're probably right :-\
