Back to tipping - I'll tip everyone except those creepy black guys who stand outside of the restrooms at clubs handing you paper towels to dry your hands with. One of them in a club in Miami actually complained that I didn't tip him a dollar. :P

I've always assumed they're in there to narc on people doing drugs.

That's hilarious, because as a cop, I've always assumed they're in there to provide people with drugs.  :lol

I've never seen these towel people.

I should clarify, in Canada, the creepy nightclub bathroom towel people aren't just black guys.  They're sketchy in every ethnicity.

I think I'm going to train MT in Thailand for a few months. Currently researching the logistics of it. I've done lots of BJJ but haven't ever done any striking training; imagine it will be a cool experience building up from scratch over there. Maybe get a fight or two scheduled before I leave if I don't suck too badly. Doubt my knees will hold up to all the running but I'll try to work through it, get rid of some of the kinks this month in preparation.

This is gonna be interesting...

He nearly tied himself in knots in the Chavez thread trying to argue no one can criticize Chavez for anything ever because U.S. foreign policy is terrible or something. But he backed off before he got to that real fun "word salad" stage of his.

Was stuff like:
Random poster: "People dislike Chavez because his economic policies have been terrible."
EV: "Untrue. The U.S. Government does not dislike Chavez because of his economic policies. Besides the U.S. government has done far worse things than Chavez."

He's an entertaining feller.

Training tourism is probably big business. If I was rich I would totally go training at some thai gym in the jungle. But not real training, some wussy chubby westerner training. A 2 mile run a few pushups, that sort of thing

Fight Quest was such a good show. They need to bring that back

I've been to a few majority-black places before... especially when I lived in Buffalo. The typical EDM club in NY is mostly white and asian, with a smattering of indian, hispanic and middle eastern people... and maybe 4 or 5 black people (make that 1 or 2 black people and triple the indian people if it's a trance party)

One of my favorite running themes on GAF is when someone is interviewed, then another article chops up for the single juicy quote and then some GAF poster chops it up even more. And then you have a whole bunch of "who cares?", "why is *X* talking about this shit", "when have they put out a Playstation exclusive?", "when will they shut up?!?", etc.

I tell myself they aren't deliberately ignoring the possibility that the person was asked the question in midst of trying to show or talk about a game or whatever and didn't call up the game journalists going "hey, you, I want to shit talk the 8GB of GDDR5. My next game? FUCK THAT ARGLE BLARGLE."

To tie it back to the Chris Brown thing, if you ever look at any of the comments on any celebrity story anywhere it's the same kind of thing "why won't these people go away?!?"

Well, maybe if you didn't go into a hulk rage about it and vomit your thoughts all over the site, refreshing and arguing with dissenters, they might not find it worth covering.

To tie it back to the lamentations about this thread, why do we need a thousand page thread about GAF? Because of idiots like benji apparently.

Why is she wearing makeup? Attractive women get whatever they want in life. What's she doing with the money? Why doesn't she hire game industry employees with it? Why is she so lazy? Why is she doing this game? Why did she use some examples you can find in wikipedia? Why isn't this like a college lecture? Wow this is so pretentious. She's not even a "legitimate gamer" why does she get all this money and attention? I could do that for like $150 bucks but I totally wont.

I'm not trying to say this destroys her credibility or anything, but I found it amusing to see her discuss sexist tropes or relegations women have had on them while she was wearing a ton of make up. Did anybody else notice this?

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=49405407&postcount=2238

Quote
I've always thought make up was a stupid thing. I'm sure she can simply prefer to wear make up, and that's fine. But there is NO way she can try and say "What, a woman like myself can just happen to like wearing make up" without anybody else being able to say that any particular game using a trope exists for it's own reason and without any social pressure causing it.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=49405674&postcount=2242

Quote
It's a free market. She said she'd like some money to make this, and she got a lot of money for it. The cynical part of me says she's probably rolling in most of the dough given to her. It annoys me at some level, but I can't really blame her for others throwing money at her. One thing that bugs me is that she probably got more money because she is a woman that isn't that bad looking. Fact of the matter is, looks do matter with selling. If she was an ugly woman or a man, she would have gotten less donations. It only bugs me because she is attempting to make women not be about their sexual nature. Then again, I guess I can't blame her for how she looks.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=49406013&postcount=2250

Quote
She's wearing a lot of make up though. Lipstick, mascara, blush, powder, eyebrows, etc. She probably looks very different without make up. And a lot of that make up serves to make her prettier or more "sexual". All I'm saying is that I find it odd for her to want to make her appearance more attractive or sexualized. I would think somebody like her would want things like make up to not be expected from women. Hell, I wish women weren't expected to wear make up. If her argument for using it is that she is expected to wear it or that her audience would prefer she wear it, then she's fallen into the exact same trap game companies fall in to when they use these tropes she is complaining about.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=49406301&postcount=2254

Quote
Sure, you probably don't want some gross blemishes to show. Men often do this in video also. But that is different from getting "dolled up".

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=49406994&postcount=2269

Quote
I'm not attacking her. And I even said that it would be perfectly fine for her to say that she happens to like to wear make up. That's fine. Her body, her choice and whatnot. But my point is that if she's going to say that, then why Nintendo say that Mario just happens to save Peach because they thought it was a cute story idea. Why does she get to assume all sorts of sexual or weakness ideas about Mario just because it follows an old trope? How is it different from somebody saying she is a subject of a trope that requires women to look good for men?

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=49407300&postcount=2274

Quote
Well I'd say there is a very distinct difference between wearing make up that is similar color to your natural skin tone to hide blemishes and wearing colored blush, lipstick, mascara, and using powder to make your overall skin color look different. Lets not pretend there isn't a difference between the two. You telling me both of these just seem like somebody wearing make up with no difference in degree or motive for wearing the make up?

Quote
What's your point? Are only works of fiction open for criticism? I'd argue that the expectancy for women to use make up to be a real issue that I completely back feminists on. I hate the idea that primarily women are brought up to feel that their natural appearance is inadequate, and that they must supplement their appearance with make up. It's a huge waste of time and money on women. There is no arguing that make up puts women in a more sexualized role that they are expected to fill.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=49407804&postcount=2282

Quote
100% agree with you. And Nintendo is a company with autonomy and can do whatever it wants with their games as long as it is not directly harming others. Making a video game where Mario saves Peach falls under that. Nintendo can claim Mario saves Peach in every game because they happen to like that and think it is cute and has nothing to do with male power fantasies or that Peach should be weak because she is a woman. And she is free to say she likes make up. Good for her and good for Nintendo.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=49408341&postcount=2302

Quote
I'm not really criticizing her for it. I just find it odd. I'm just saying that since she has a very passionate desire for equality in women rights and representation, I would expect her to hate the concept of make up. I hate the concept of make up. If she happens to like it, then she's free to do what she wants. It just sticks out to me as a strange choice is all. Then again, I find everybody that wears make up to be choosing a strange choice. I imagine most women grow up with the expectation that "Women wear make up, they just do". I'd like for that to change.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=49408599&postcount=2310

Quote
You aren't really making any points here. You're just strapping a bunch of my posts and loosely trying to assume something here. Yes, I think she got more money because she is a fairly attractive woman. What's wrong with that? I think if you sell your idea that largely has to do with you talking about a subject, a fairly attractive woman is likely to have more success than an ugly woman or a man if we assume all 3 are equally qualified and that the subject isn't something that people would unfairly assume only men can speak on with knowledge. If anything, the only grudge I have against her is that I kinda wish I could do the same sort of thing. I've always been a little jealous that women can purposefully or even accidentally get their way due to their sexual appeal. It's not their fault that men are stupid around women a lot of the time.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=49408884&postcount=2317

Quote
I'd agree with you if I was interrupting some group discussion on the topic and said "Hey guys, lets stop talking about her points and views. I'd rather we just talk about why she's wearing make up." I'm not. This is an asynchronous conversation that is free to flow. I can't interrupt the conversation any more than people choose to respond to me. I just made a small observation that I thought was kind of funny. If people disagree, that's fine. I'll gladly express my reasons why. But if people move on to more important points, and don't really give my little quip much attention, that is fine too.

And my point about the hypocrisy isn't meant to completely invalidate her argument. If anything, if she were reading this, maybe it would just make her think "maybe not every case of my perceived instance of sexism isn't actually sexism in the creators eyes, but merely coincidence?

Ahahahahahahaha

Expressing femininity does NOT equate to LOL GENDER ROLES! I met a man who wears makeup just tonight! People wear makeup because they like how it looks on them. Notice how men go batshit about makeup and how it "represents gender role idea that women are sexual objects" without one ounce of thinking about WHY women wear makeup.

Just another dude with a severe case of femmephobia. Fuck him.

My first thought is that they're probably a vocal, anti-social minority. Most gamers go to forums probably to either have more social contact or to just find people with similar interests that they can't find in real life (most likely a combination of both). You don't go to a forum to just start riling shit up about how somebody is hypocritical because they painted their face up.

I get people who are upset with any use of make-up/cosmetic products but throwing it into that thread is like shitting into the fondue fountain.

A good number of the people trying to out-outrage each other (on any sides) are really fighting with each other to become the most outraged and king (gasp!) QUEEN of their side instead of convincing any fence sitters or moderating the views of others.

The idea that these are tropes to be aware of isn't enough. Even just a debate that it's normal in media and will change with society vs. something to try and intentionally subvert within the works isn't enough.

And there's probably too many people who won't even notice whether or not games are or are not subverting the tropes. Especially if they aren't games that interest them. GAF is full of threads everyday with stuff like "WHY IS EVERYTHING A FPS?"or "WHAT HAPPENED TO 2D PLATFORMERS?!?" If they can't find stuff that blatant they certainly won't catch anything more subtle.

Not to cross Opiate:
Quote
All I ask is that people be on the vanguard of progressivism, whatever that means in their time.
But even as "we" wish games to be the vanguard of art and driver of social progressivity its place does need to be kept in mind. It's debatable but I think despite what us "hardcore" might think, the basic interface of games through which the masses will interact with them isn't entirely established and standardized. To expect games to be incredibly socially conscious is something that not even movies or TV can do with their headstart and broad adoption. One of the most popular TV shows is The Big Bang Theory and it shows incredible bigotry against the intelligentally-abled. Give games their time.

And best of all in this age, it's easier than ever for "non-professionals" to actually fucking do something about it. Make your own sweet-ass socially aware game.

I'm not even outraged at the games, it's just an embarrassing fact that there is no discussion about the actual topic to be had as much as there is other dumb shit to apparently say.

It's just comical when gaffers pretend their board is somehow above 4chan or gamefaqs.
