Macron is still term-limited. He can't run again in 2027. There has to be a credible candidate to go against the far right 5 years from now.

It has a high tolerance rate when the best Democrat to replace Biden (and Harris) in 2024 is Buttigieg. At least so far.

I meant more in the sense that we'll probably be there in 2027. Macronism is pretty hollow beyond his personal image.

I suppose my cynicism is to blame but I saw them just as ugly before. If anything war has the opposite effect on me. The frontline testimonials of Ukrainian soldiers talking about how they'd rather be anywhere else but feel obligated to hold the line actually makes me feel optimistic about humanity. Hearing politicians bloviate about war still makes me feel sick, but hearing it from the people who are actually living it? Who know there's a good chance the amount of days they have left to live is single digits? Hard not to feel uplifted by that kind of selflessness, but I guess it's human nature to focus on the bravado, on the "fuck Russia" of it all.

Of course. Personally, I have a hard time doing that with a human-made disaster, even as I smile at "Russian Warship, go fuck yourself" and other acts of defiance. Man is wolf to man, and all that.

It's pretty obvious now that Putin is not going to win the war for the Donbas. The Ukrainians are destroying artillery positions wholesale.
https://twitter.com/UAWeapons/status/1520364599098462214

Ukraine has liberated territory around too Kharkiv so the Russian artillery can no longer easily hit the city.

The UK is worried that Putin will announce a general mobilization soon while others fear he might attack Moldova.
Moldova doesn't really have an army and the Russians have started sabotage operations. In other words, Moldova is a fight the Russians can win if no allies come to help.

State TV is happy they nearly killed the UN secretary general

just redo what they did in ukraine

invade ("special operation acktually") -> shit out casus belli afterwards
such as in the case of ukraine, ukranian biolabs developing anti-slav bio-weapons, which gets funnier the more you think about and is probably why russia skipped to other talking points

Maybe it's just me but it feels to me Russia should have done the false flag thing with Moldova 2 months ago.

Doing it now causes some chaos and propaganda, ok, but they don't have the means to really exploit it. They didn't take Kiev, they are bugged down in Eastern Ukraine, far away from Moldova.

Ok, they have a few thousands, poorly trained Russian troops in Transnistria. That's apparently enough to keep the breakaway territory, but not enough to invade Ukraine from the West or take over Moldova. So really, why show you can't do anything about Transnistria being "attacked"?

Sadly I don't think there is any detailed information, but...

Quote
Explaining what had happened, Parish, who also runs a farm, told BBC Politics South West: “The situation was that – funnily enough it was tractors I was looking at. I did get into another website that had a very similar name and I watched it for a bit which I shouldn’t have done.

“But my crime – biggest crime – is that on another occasion I went in a second time.”

Asked if that was deliberate, he admitted: “That was deliberate … that was sitting waiting to vote on the side of the chamber.” Parish added: “I will have to live with this for the rest of my life. I made a huge terrible mistake and I’m here to tell the world.”

A couple of reasons.

1. It links up all the occupied Russian land in the south and used to be part of the Russian Empire Putin wants to restore
2. It stops Ukraine from deploying the forces they have in the west to the Donbas
3. The threat might prompt Ukraine(or Romania) to move into Moldova(giving the Russians a reason to invade)
4. They need a 'victory' by May 9th. Moldova has no army or defenses and is an easy target
5. After the FSB bungled things with the coup that didn't happen, the army took point and promised victory.
They might simply see it as a strategic move to block supplies and have another launchpad for attacks on Ukraine

The Russian Imperialists pretty much see it like this. All those lands were stolen from them by NATO and Nazi US puppet regimes are in power so they must either surrender or be removed from power.
The people there have been 'brainwashed' for generations by western propaganda so of course there is resistance and it will again take generations to 'pacify' those areas so they can be of service to the empire.

I think Poland is making the right move by putting pressure on Belarus as that is the weakest link. Putin wants Lukashenka to send his armies but he hesistated once it was clear the Russians would not take Kyiv and his army would revolt.

Putin apparently plans to make some hawkish FSB general run things while he is in surgery.

Although it does feel like that someone could attempt to replace him at such a moment of weakness.
Not that those planning against Putin are against the war it's more that they don't like how their army and resources are being wasted in pointless battles with nothing to show for it.
Also I don't think many are on board with nuking their vacation homes, mistresses, daughters and sons studying in the UK or Putin handing over power to those he considers most loyal like Kadyrov.

Shit just keeps blowing up at random in Russia

The problem is that with the "quality" of the russian command you actually have to give that idea some consideration.

I mean any tank will get destroyed under the right circumstances, and this is nowhere as important as the Moskova sinking.  It's just a propaganda piece that further diminishes notions of Russia's military might.

Germany is introducing a 9-Euro-ticket (valid for one month) that allows you to use all public transportation as often as you like (buses, trams, trains), excluding faster trains (IC and ICE). Available for three months, starting in June.
Now that is a great plan to reduce fossil fuel consumption.

Russian fighters have been sharing tips with one another about how to deliberately damage their own equipment and hamper Russian President Vladimir Putin’s war plans in Ukraine, according to recordings of alleged Russian troops’ phone calls that the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) intercepted.

In one regiment, one Russian soldier allegedly said they’ve been pouring sand into the tanks’ fuel systems to clog them up.

“I don't follow stupid orders, I simply refuse,” one fighter can be heard telling a comrade. “The motherf*cker sent me to tanks, motherf*cking piece of shit. I f*cked it up and that's it.”

When the fellow Russian soldier on the other end of the line heard the unit wasn’t punished for the insubordination, he indicated he might repeat the tactic later in his own unit.

Another Russian fighter shared with a family member that he and his comrades deliberately damaged their tank—the last one left in their regiment—to interfere with an attack plan, as well, according to another intercept the SBU shared.

“We have one tank left in the regiment,” he said. “In short, we broke our tank ourselves in the morning so as not to go.”
All according to keikaku. :putin

Shit's burning and breaking down every day and they can't fix it.
'Victory' went from conquering Ukraine, to securing the coast to winning the battle for the Azovstal complex.
The real challenge will be for the west to convince Ukraine not to follow the fleeing Russians and take the fight to the Crimea.

More signs of cracks in Putin's hold to power.

Here's Strelkov (who masterminded the 2014 war in the Donbass) calling out the regime for being a bunch of crooks turning the Donbass into a reservation of shit.
https://twitter.com/kamilkazani/status/1522626542240735239

Earlier he made some predictions about how the war would not end in Russia's favor and those turned out to be pretty accurate.

These are the type of ultra-nationalists that will take down Putin faster than any liberal opposition.

Calls have been intercepted in which Russian soldiers claim Putin has given the order to nuke everything if they don't win by May 9th.
https://twitter.com/TpyxaNews/status/1523288096938373127

I don't see how a nuclear strike would work in Russia's favor though. They would vaporize much of their own army in the area where it could make a difference.
