Credible reports out there that the Russian front surrounding Kharkiv has collapsed following Ukrainian counter attacks and the Russians are retreating back to Belgorod.

Looks like the Kharkiv front reports were accurate, Russian village has been hit by Ukrainian artillery.

Back then the Fins had rifles and IED's, now they come prepared with the biggest artillery force in Europe.
Finland has about 700 Howitzers and 100 MLRS. They also have the best trained artillery crews in probably the world.

Finland doesn't need artillery. They will find a way to win with rifles and IEDs.

But in movies there's always snow when Russia is shown. Surely the Russians have some sort of portable snow they bring along in case of invasions.

Guess not.

Historic decision made in Finland
https://twitter.com/Channel4News/status/1525808085129908224

- Turkey will no longer block Finland/Sweden from joining NATO

- PM and President of Finland just announced they intend to join NATO despite Russian threats (or because Russian threats?), Finish parliament will vote in the coming days.

- NATO ready to deploy troops to Baltics(and possibly Scandinavia) to guarantee safety of Finland and Sweden

Rumor is that Finland will vote tommorow and Sweden and Finland both apply (and be granted) NATO membership this tuesday.

UA troops have reached the Russian border after pushing them away from Kharkiv

It's going to be interesting to see if Ukraine will dig in or moves forward into Belgorod with saboteurs.

(and be granted) NATO membership this tuesday.

That is not how the process works.  It will be some time before they are officially in NATO.

Quote
4. Accession protocols are ratified by NATO countries

The governments of NATO member states ratify the protocols, according to their national requirements and procedures. The ratification procedure varies from country to country. For example, the United States requires a two-thirds majority to pass the required legislation in the Senate. Elsewhere, for example in the United Kingdom, no formal parliamentary vote is required.

The bit about being ousted within 18 months or so are not emerging from China, but from a western expert on china and the report is a book he wrote that was published in september last year. so the 18 months is actually 10 months or so... :lol

Some reports emerging from China that Xi's grip on power might be under threat within the next 18 months.

Interesting times...
There's a power play in China going on right now. Dutch media also reported on it.
First there was the policy advisor that basically made the case to drop support for Russia and instead follow the EU / US as that would be in China's best interest.

Basically Shanghai is the economic center and Xi is trying to minimize their influence with the extended lockdowns.
However, Shanghai and many other economic centers want to follow the Dutch/UK model of "LET IT RIP" or at least the French and German model of 'controlled spread'.
Which means that the Zero COVID policy that Xi has pushed for is over. Same as the idea that Russia and China can become the 'Dragonbear' i.e. the power players in a multipolar world.

However, this is more ingrained into the political 'toolbox' of China and Xi than most in the west are aware of.
The COVID lockdowns / quarantine camps is basically the 'Uyghur isolation methods' applied to the pandemic.

Xi stands a crossroads. Either he can continue to support Russia and decoupling from the west (trying to push the Yuan as a reserve currency for non-US aligned nations) or he can accept that he's part of the EU/US supply chain and Dollar world and China has to operate within those boundaries (which means you can do whatever the fuck you want in Africa and Central Asia but Taiwan and other contested areas that supply critical products(computer chips, oil, grain, gas etc.)  are a no-go). Or he can work together with the EU and US.

Xi is more inclined to launch an attack on Taiwan than join forces against Russia, which would end in a bigger failure than Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Given the fact that Taiwan is an island that has prepared all their defenses to deal with such an assault.
The weapon systems and tactics of China would look much like those of the Russian Empire. In reality most landing ships would be sunk before they would ever reach the shore of Taiwan and that's before the US would enact a naval blockade.

However, CCP power struggles are slow. It took Xi a long time to get rid of his main opposition and claim power.

How it pans out is everyone's guess but the most likely scenario is that Russia will change course before August.
August is the window for the Ukrainians to launch a big counter attack on the exhausted Russian BTG's with arms supplied by NATO countries.
Russia would have to literally nuke themselves to stop such an assault and prevent Ukraine from taking the Crimea or even Belgorod.

Russia's play right now is to create another 'frozen' conflict and keep their gains, like they did in Ukraine in 2014 and Georgia before.
However this depends on Ukraine playing ball with this strategy and they've already shown in Kharkiv and other places that they won't accept a frozen conflict.

With the dire state the Russian airforce and army are in, in theory 400 - 500 Ukrainian tanks could roll up to Moscow.

Putin has now announced massive exercises across the CSTO this summer to keep Belarus, Khazachstan and the others in line, which just means there will be fewer units to defend the Russian borders.

Anyone not aligned with the EU, Japan or US is fucked because 'globalism' is dead.

As a EU citizen. We still have ways to go until the situation becomes dire.
For me inflation is paying 2.22 Euro for a litre of Petrol (~$9 a gallon) and 24.50 for a Steak dinner (as opposed to 1.15 a litre and 18.50 for steak during the MAGA king rule).
My average hourly rate went from 100/hr to 120/hr in 3 months (not counting value based pricing).

As long as everyone increases wages and prices, we take a hit but should be fine overall in general. Economic activivity is not slowing down.
Additional economic growth on the short term will emerge from moving more production (weapons, medicine, tech etc.) back to the EU at the expense of China and India.

Places already on the brink like Sri Lanka, Russia or Iran though? Completely fucked and no way to be unfucked.
I have a trainee from Georgia (the country not the state) at the office, she's well educated and works for a travel agency learning a thing or two about online marketing.
But I can tell from her clothes and reaction to us dumping food in the bin that she's just from another planet in terms of wealth.

I honestly think that's what Trump 2.0 will bring about once the self-flagellating Biden era is over. The realization that NATO-land (except Turkey) is rich and the rest of the world is poor af.
Combined with the rise of anti-migrant policies in Europe this means that Putin will get the two-polar world that he wished for.
One that we (thankfully) live in and is restructured and largely automated to 'take care of itself' and a second world which is basically constantly in turmoil as cheap human labour is no longer in demand.

Dugin said something about that Russians were more willing to suffer. It hurts like hell but I can take 3 Euro/litre (~$12 / gallon) of gas for a year. Because for me the trade off is buying less steak or video games.
However, me paying 3 Euro/litre for 3 months and being stuck with just my backlog means 10 million Russians will literally starve to death because they can't afford to put food on their plate. That's the reality we're living in.

That brings me back to what a Dutch journalist who went to Iraq, Somalia, Syria, Afghanistan and all these places said about refugees once:
"If people knew how much the average refugee deeply hates us for what we have, we'd never let them in"

The end result will be, that we (EU/US/JP/NATO) will be more powerful than ever before because there's literally no one else to turn to.

Mikhail Khodarenok, a retired soviet colonel who spoke surprisingly open and critical about Russia's failing war in Ukraine on live TV a few days ago went back on the air yesterday and sounded somewhat different this time.
International observers believe that everything was staged, preparing viewers for upcoming hardships.

Edit: First appearance:

In yesterday's appearance he clarified that Russian military command appears to be doing everything in its power to prepare a nasty surprise for Ukraine, to be expected soon.
