Everything the Russians have done for the past couple of months has just been beyond fucking stupid.

Now there is evidence to show that they were using conscripts, but didn't tell Putin.

Putin sets an ultimatum for Europe.
Either pay for gas in Rubles or get cut off from the Russian gas supply.

All non-Ruble contracts to be cancelled April 1st.

It's not about the natural gas supply but more about the cost of energy for businesses and consumers.

In most of Europe we have flexible energy contracts.
For example, you can have a contract based on the current gas prices or 'freeze' your rate for 2 or 3 years.
In most cases people pay in advance based on their expected energy use and then either have to pay extra or get a refund if they overpaid.

If the gas price goes up 500% so does your energy bill.
There's already examples of families who paid little over 100 Euro for energy a month now having to pay 500 - 700 Euro.
Plus at this time the energy companies don't offer long term contracts. So if your contract just ended and you have to renegotiate you're fucked and stuck in a plan based on the market rate of gas.

"Free" country:
https://twitter.com/Psythor/status/1509229031107043338
Quote
A MAN who sent a “grossly offensive” tweet about Captain Sir Tom Moore the day after his death has avoided a jail sentence as he was handed a community payback order.

Joseph Kelly, 36, posted on Twitter that “the only good Brit soldier is a deed one, burn auld fella buuuuurn” on February 3 last year.

Kelly, of Castlemilk, Glasgow, was found guilty of sending the message following a trial at Lanark Sheriff Court in January and returned to the court for sentencing on Wednesday.

Sheriff Adrian Cottam told Kelly he passed the “custody threshold” but there is a presumption against prison if there is an alternative.

He sentenced him to a community payback order comprising 18 months of supervision and 150 hours of unpaid work, and said the punishment should act as a deterrence to others.

Sheriff Cottam said: “My view is, having heard the evidence, that this was a grossly offensive tweet.

“The deterrence is really to show people that despite the steps you took to try and recall matters, as soon as you press the blue button that’s it.

“It’s important for other people to realise how quickly things can get out of control.

“You are a good example of that, not having many followers.”

Kelly’s defence agent Tony Callahan said the 36-year-old had only a handful of followers when he posted the tweet and did not realise how widely it would be shared.

He said Kelly quickly took steps to take down the tweet, which was only live for 20 minutes, and has since expressed regret and remorse.
Quote
After Kelly was found guilty at the trial, Sheriff Cottam told him Captain Tom “is a man who had become known as a national hero, who stood for the resilience of the people of a country struggling with a pandemic and the services trying to protect them”.

He added: “His stature and the view of society towards him must be looked at in that light and therefore any comment likewise.

“What the accused chose to write, when and how it was said, can only be regarded as grossly offensive.”
I assume they'll also be prosecuting The National for publishing what the tweet said.

The earthworks were not the only instance of recklessness in the treatment of a site so toxic it still holds the potential to spread radiation well beyond Ukraine’s borders.

In a particularly ill-advised action, a Russian soldier from a chemical, biological and nuclear protection unit picked up a source of cobalt-60 at one waste storage site with his bare hands, exposing himself to so much radiation in a few seconds that it went off the scales of a Geiger counter, Mr. Simyonov said. It was not clear what happened to the man, he said.

A small minority of Germans heat their homes with electricity. Sick gaming rigs and grow-ops don't count.

Unfortunately, this will be slow to change, too, because individual home ownership is low relative to the rest of Europe. Landlords will not invest in moving away from gas heating when they can just pass the cost on. (Everyone will be holding out for government incentives, regardless. 💸)

It is what it is.

58.20%
41.80%

Not as big of a margin as 5 years ago, but still decisive.

Macron is still term-limited. He can't run again in 2027. There has to be a credible candidate to go against the far right 5 years from now.
