I think we should invade Congo, force a regime change and take care of their resources.

Since this is really expensive, we should let semi-private companies handle the administrative work.
China has already done that.

Something that confuses me about the whole gazprom thing is, why doesn't Putin just say that he's the one slashing the deliveries? Literally every politician already assumes that he does. It's also a very obvious leverage Russia has over Germany. Is there any point to having deniability?

It's all about being a reliable partner, which Russia never is but they want to keep up appearances.

Also, I predicted this months ago. It was fucking stupid to use energy as a sanction against Russia as we would be sanctioning ourselves.
All Putin has to do is trickle the supply as the prices go up. The Germans keep buying, the Russian state gets rich.

They're fighting the war on the cheap too. I think the general public will be shell shocked when after all the aid, inflation pain and money we poured into it, Ukraine still loses this war.

So Lavrov has admitted what everyone knew all along...that their whole goal is regime change.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-07-26/sergei-lavrov-says-russia-goal-is-to-oust-ukraine-president/101268892

Quote
Russia's Foreign Minister says Moscow's overarching goal in Ukraine is to topple President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's government, expressing the Kremlin's war aims in some of the bluntest terms yet, as its forces pummel the country with artillery barrages and air strikes.

Catch up Sergei, everyone but the Russian government seems to have understood this for 6 months now.

Sadly for him, all the Russians will get out of this war is a couple of ungovernable Eastern shithole "republics", a bunch of dead soldiers and their pissed off Babushkas, and a much more hostile Crimea.

Have fun with that...

Medvedev has released a map of what Ukraine will be like after the war compared to what Zelensky thinks the outcome will be.
This gives an idea of how much land Russia intends to conquer before they call it a day.

Quote
Marburg virus disease is a highly virulent disease that causes haemorrhagic fever, with a fatality ratio of up to 88%. It is in the same family as the virus that causes Ebola virus disease. Two large outbreaks that occurred simultaneously in Marburg and Frankfurt in Germany, and in Belgrade, Serbia, in 1967, led to the initial recognition of the disease. The outbreak was associated with laboratory work using African green monkeys (Cercopithecus aethiops) imported from Uganda. Subsequently, outbreaks and sporadic cases have been reported in Angola, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, South Africa (in a person with recent travel history to Zimbabwe) and Uganda. In 2008, two independent cases were reported in travellers who visited a cave inhabited by Rousettus bat colonies in Uganda.

Quote
Human infection with Marburg virus disease initially results from prolonged exposure to mines or caves inhabited by Rousettus bat colonies. Once an individual is infected with the virus, Marburg can spread through human-to-human transmission via direct contact (through broken skin or mucous membranes) with the blood, secretions, organs or other bodily fluids of infected people, and with surfaces and materials (e.g. bedding, clothing) contaminated with these fluids.

Surely people can manage NOT to fuck monkeys in bat caves :idont

The first ship carrying grain has left a Ukrainian port under a landmark deal with Russia.

Turkish and Ukrainian officials say the ship left the southern port of Odesa early on Monday morning local time.

Russia has been blockading Ukrainian ports since February, but the two sides agreed a deal to resume shipments.

It is hoped the deal will ease the global food crisis and lower the price of grain.

Turkey said the Sierra Leone-flagged vessel, the Razoni, would dock at the port of Tripoli in Lebanon, adding that further shipments were planned over the coming weeks.

Let's see if Russia tries to pull any shenanigans.

The battle for Odesa will likely be decided in Mykolaiv which the Russians are hitting hard with missiles these past few days.
I doubt that the Ukrainians will stay and fight for Odesa if Mykolaiv falls as they would risk being cut off.
It seems that both sides are pretty much at a stand still. I'm not seeing any big gains from Ukraine from their 'Kherson counter attack' and the Russians are having trouble to protect their ammo dumps and trains.

I don't think the Russians will be as bold as to attack the ships en route to Lebanon.
The Russians and their allies are trying to present themselves as 'saving' Africa and the Middle East from NATO Nazi's.
Blowing up grain shipments specifically for those regions would be counter productive for those efforts.

It is more likely that they will place agents in Lebanon and other places to bribe and persuade Ukrainian ship crews to not return to Odesa but take their ships to Russian held ports instead.
In any case the goal of Russia is to conquer the entire coastline and I don't see any way for Ukraine to prevent that from happening if the war drags on.

They're looking for an excuse to attack Taiwan and this is handed oven ready on a platter.
Although US intelligence thinks that China isn't ready for an attack until late 2025 or even 2030.

China could do a number of things short of shooting Pelosi out of the sky or blowing up an aircraft carrier (which have been suggested in the Chinese media)
However they sort of have to do 'something' because of all their threats. My best guess is some kind of economic or political response, like deporting US diplomats, some kind of blockade around Taiwan or making it more difficult for US companies to do business in China.

Sunak should just drop out so they can crown their new queen. It's going to be an embarassing loss for him.

China has quite a few domestic issues so this "crisis" is great for their propaganda.
The question is who blinks first and if the US was right to think that the Chinese were bluffing and grand standing.

She's close to landing now but they could also prevent her from leaving of course.
