The problem is that we don't have those tanks in big numbers.
On paper the Netherlands has tanks but in reality we're leasing 16 tanks from the Germans for 'training' twice a year. A lot of European equipment exists on paper but is not combat ready in any shape or form, especially when it comes to ground units.
Some stuff is stored in Switzerland for safe keeping but the Swiss do not allow it to be transported to Ukraine. In other cases the vehicles are there but there isn't enough ammo. Most European armies have highly trained air forces and naval units not tank formations.
Ukraine is pretty much spent after a year of fighting. They need to raise, train and equip entire new armies which is getting more and more difficult to do.
Ukraine has already said what they need:
“I know that I can beat this enemy. But I need resources. I need 300 tanks, 600-700 ifvs, 500 Howitzers.” (Valery Zaluzhny)
This is already revised down from the 1000 tanks and 2000 vehicles they initially wanted.
When it comes to tanks about 10% - 20% have been pledged post Rammstein, in terms of IFV's about 50% and for Howitzers about 10% - 20%.
Europe doesn't have this stuff or the Ukrainians aren't trained in using it. The best solution would be to get India on board with the allies but instead they've been lectured and bullied so they're unwilling to play ball.
India has about 5k upgraded Soviet-type tanks that Ukraine knows how to use.
We need a fast and practical solution not a 'wunder waffen' that requires training and maintenance like the Leopard 2. They'll just be scattered without fuel on the roads leaving Kyiv like the Tiger 2's.
It's a good thing that the US is stepping up with Strykers and the French are sending the AMX 10-RC.
The fighting around Bakhmut has drained the Ukrainian army. Wagner is posing next to Ukrainian vehicles which are pretty much technicals at this point (trucks with guns mounted on them).
I understand why the media/NATO doesn't want to focus on the desperate situation on the front lines because it would make others even more reluctant to support the cause but the situation is grim.
