i don't think i've seen a more universal feel good prem match in a while than last night. 25k people crammed into a rainy northern stadium to see some decent ground ball, sit com defending, a right cunter from valencia, two goals a piece and two old dogs of the english game sharing a beer after the match talking about what could've been for each side.

flashback to a simpler time. feel like we should've nicked it but also feel like they earned something out of the match.

city been looking flat all season. i put it down to title winner's foot and players not having the drive to put in the hard yards, but that doesn't explain their CL showing. i get that the strategy was to remain cagey throughout and hope to nick it on a set-piece, but they had no pace at all on the break.

I like the logo except for that line. Why does the line go past the badge? It's driving me nuts. WHY DOES THE LINE GO OVER?!?!

On the other hand, the logo is contemporary and does not look like it's ripping off the MLB or NBA but is its own thing.

I think it COULD use a soccer ball in it, but eh.

Agreed with Kara. Leave patriot schlock at the door. Luckily, Canada has red and white as colors and blue is a natural compliment. So it works. However, the stars are unnecessary, too patriotic, and does not tell me anything about what the logo it belongs to is.

The more I think if it, the more I think the logo is terrible. The lack of ball is a huge mistake.

I like the prem logo, because despite having a lion, it fits the name. MLS' name is Major League Soccer, and has no country ties. English premier league does. More that that, Lions are universally seen as a sign of status, royalty, kingship and it naturally compliments the word Premier. So its not only works as a national symbol, but also as a dual thematic. By using a lion, the premiership truly comes off as soccer royalty.

He new MLS logo has no similar concept of thematic storytelling beyond the colors and Stars and Stripes.

Which is its biggest failing as a logo. It failed logo creation 101: tell the audience what the product is about. If I werent an MLS fan, and I saw that logo by itself I would have no idea what it was. A new clothing brand?

Adding them long slash and it just looks like something a college graphic designer student would come up with for fake logos in branding graphic design class that would earn a B-, maybe C+ from their prof.

Lack of unity, lack of theme, lack of message. If I were that teacher I would give that logo a C-. Never mind the fact that the logo represents a sports league.

The way that the badge is a symbol for the US and the corresponding team perfectly fits the 'club/country' duality.

To my knowledge no clubs outside Italy are eligible for promotion to Serie A, so no it doesn't really bother me there.

I'm not sure when Welsh clubs were eligible to join the Prem and when the logo was first devised so I'll have to push on that for now.

The city square where I grew up had an American flag and a California flag on opposite street corners but the U.S. flag was so high you could never see it from your car (unless you had a convertible or something I guess) but you could always see the Californian one. I blame this arrangement for my general lack of patriotism.

Quick research tells me that Swansea City was always in the English football pyramid as was Cardiff City I think. (BTW holy shit the new Cardiff City crest is lolbad.) I guess if you view the lion as an exclusively English symbol (Scotland has one too) that's kinda a similar sitch to my MLS beef. It wouldn't be the first time England shat on Wales doe.

On a tangential note I can't believe they still front with the Irish harp on the royal coat of arms.

Seriously - who doesn't love teams who line up with 3 at the back. All that lovely space. Then throw in the fact that they don't have much in the way of experienced players used to that system.
The absolute worst thing that happened to united was their preseason success - i've always thought an extremely strong preseason usually bites you in the arse - it usually means something is being missed where as if United had got botched by everyone he maybe would have broken the bank on strengthening positions he needed rather than bringing in fluff players that don't address the issues.

United just conceeded 5 at Leicester. They scored 3, but still lost. They're like Keagan era Newcastle but without the sexy and with worse results - vastly worse results. Dis gunna be gud.
