There's a divide between people. Those that grew up when the internet was a playground for mischief and bullshit and those that grew up and the internet became intertwined with their identity. So, for those latter people, everything is serious and must be reckoned with in the same way you would in real life.

Not only this but most of us in the first group are people who didn't have the Internet until we were at least teens. And if not that, it didn't take off in a big way until we were teens or early 20's. You can kinda tell who grew up WITH the Internet as opposed to someone who just grew up during a time when the Internet wasn't a thing nor nearly as big.

And I have to say, I'm really disliking the excuse of "well its a video game website man" to rationalize bullshit like this.

It's not that serious. It never was, and it never will be. Just learn from your mistakes and don't buy a game you suspect is another "AAA trap". Nothing sends a developer/publisher a bigger message than low sales.

But they're just gonna keep whining and keep buying it because they're "video game enthusiasts"  :snoop

I swear electronics consumers are fucking stupid. Everything revolves around having something ASAP, day one. Why not wait and see whether that shit works, it's not going to kill you.

Gaming media will never be real because access is dictated by playing along. Bad review, breaking new embargoes? Whoops, can't come to our super cool behind the scenes party.

One the things that was always really telling to me is how gaming media people leave the industry as soon as possible. The either go into another area of entertainment, or jump into development directly. Even the few that were there for decade+ only seem to have stayed because nothing else came up on their radar (Sessler and a bunch of the older 1up and GS guys...but even they all bailed ship recently). No one wants to actually spend their life writing for this shit.

Suffered through a presentation on planned obsolescence yesterday.

Basically went something like "poor families are being forced into a debt trap cause refrigerators aren't built the way they were in the GDR. Also, some dude's mom's nylon stockings lasted longer 20 years ago."

Of course they managed to somehow work planned economies in there and blew my mind with the notion that growth isn't inherently good. All while the nominal topic was still planned obsolescence, which they failed to quantify at all.

Germans tend to not go to a restaurant for breakfast. So I don't think we have anything similar beyond McDonald's breakfast stuff.

Ah, yes, Rufus has it right. Except Denny's is open 24 hours, so we...I mean they, used to gather around college campuses late night drinking free refills on coffee and complaining about the plight of the worker. Tipping the waitstaff like, a buck for dealing with smoking, non-food buying fuckwads for hours because funds were low.

I hadn't seen any restaurants here that are open 24 hours though, so maybe that's more of an American thing.

Some train station McDonald's in big cities are open 24h. Not much else though.

Also, they're not revolutionaries at all. They're engineering students, and I have yet to meet a significant number of engineering students that give a shit about political/social problems beyond the usual surveillance/privacy/net neutrality/whatever stuff. At least around here.
