The importance people put on exclusives is such poopy bukkake. You don't see Valve trying to make devs release shit only on their service, paying money out of their pocket to get games made to make their service look better.

Devs being paid for something they want to make is great. People acting like the platform that game is coming out on acts as the beacon of all things holy and good?  :neogaf

GAF Sony stans make it hard to cheer for the legit cool stuff some Sony teams do. Here we are a few days away from Grim Fandango finally being released for support with modern systems, partially thanks to Adam Boyes's team's help on getting Double Fine the license for it, yet they're hyping up The Order instead of all things. Talk about having your priorities terribly messed up.
Grim Fandango Remastered is coming to PC/Linux/Mac so it's not exclusive enough.

Even Sony themselves seem ok with letting the shit they make deals for get released on PC and the like. I'm all for exclusive games that make good use of the hardware, but it seems like such a non-issue to worry about in the long run assuming the games the PS4 gets run as well as everything else, unlike the shit ports the PS3 got.

I'm not gonna truly diss on the order until I play it (eventually, if ever at all), but I just cant' get behind any excitement for it. They could have done a lot more with it given the fantasy setting, but it just seems like such a by the numbers TPS with the guns you'd expect an average TPS to have. If they'd gone with some Ratchet and Clank level destructive weaponry in a realistic setting, I could get the appeal. It's a shame too, cause I was looking forward to Ready at Dawn's first original game due to looking their two God of War games.  :'(

Aren't videogames pretty unique in that luck doesn't matter nearly as much as other factors?

Luck matters for speed runners, but their definition of luck depends on something that takes time away or adds time.

This post got people riled up  :heh

I mean, its true that you can like things in your ass without being gay, and that gay people aren't necessarily into ass stuff, but why the defensiveness at that assertion?

"Yeah, totes put a old phone in my ass, turned vibration on, it was spectacular."

"That's sorta gay man."

"NO IT ISN'T! :maf"

If you support gay people and support their lifestyles, wouldn't it make sense to not get defensive over people questioning ass pleasure?

Depends on the genre... I've gotten fucked over by the random number generator in plenty of RPGs/SRPGs/roguelikes.

And Double Fine isn't making the game. The game is already made. I just want that tumbler part streamlined. It's a terrible puzzle.

I don't know about any content edits other than making it HD/widescreen/etc. But they did say they were going to add new control schemes (I assume controller, point/click, etc.) and such.

Apparently they reached out to a lot of the mod makers from over the years to implement features/code/etc. from them. I think Point and Click was one of those. One of those might effect how the puzzle plays even if it's the same. There's been a few remasters/re-releases where parts of the game have been made easier/harder just from control scheme swaps.

I don't remember the puzzle you're referencing though so I can't speculate.

Psychonauts as a 3D platformer is pretty weak. A lot of people complained when you actually had to do platforming at the end (circus level), but that was probably my favorite level in the game. The level where you're plopped onto a strategy table is also neat.

Psychonauts has excellent art design and some levels are designed really well, mechanically the game is jank.

Psychonauts is a weak 3d platformer and yet the level design is still excellent post the intro stages. Milkman Conspiracy is one giant adventure game. It is excellent if you are a fan of that genre. The velvet bull level is fantastic as well, even as far as platforming goes, but especially in terms of story and level design. The Goggalor level is pretty much straight beat em up. Pretty fun. The theatre level is a pretty good puzzle to be cracked, and the Napoleon level is a great puzzle level as well.

Paychonauts' strengths are its storytelling, adventuring, puzzles, and secrets and powers, and level diversity. It would be true that Psychonauts is a weak 3d platformer, if it were actually a dedicated 3d platformer; it isn't. It's more of an adventure game where you happen to platform, Meat Circus aside. Psychonauts has only one bad level and it's that one.

Gosh, all of this highlights just how disappointing Brutal Legend was. It had none of the great storytelling of a Tim Schafer game, and none of the wit or charm. It was advertised as this action adventure game, turns out it's a boring rts.

I honestly haven't enjoyed any DoubleFine game aside from Psychonauts. Still haven't played Broken Age because of it.

Surprisingly my favorite part of Brutal Legend are the RTS missions. My least favorite part is everything else, including the linear story missions.

The PS2/Xbox gen had so many 3D platforming games, it was probably the golden era for the genre. Things got a less janky during that gen as a whole. Rachet and Clank up Your Arsenal has the best pacing and combat out of any platformer ever, 2D or 3D. Jak was consistently great (even Jak 2, screw the haters).

Prince of Persia the Sands of Time, the best game in that reboot series and unmatched to this day. Makes Assassins Creed look even more dong than it already is. The first Sly Cooper is great (fuck the other ones). There are also a boat load of platforming games that were one offs that were all competent and fun.

Console JRPGs and 3D platformers, two genres that died faster than any other genre.

The jump from PS2 to Xbox 360/PS3 though? If you go into any used game store you can't walk a foot without seeing a few JRPGs or stacks of them in PS2 sections. 360 has probably 12-25 JRPGs, PS3 probably has around probably 30 to 50ish. Wii had some as well.

They still haven't died, but their decline on consoles was instant. Handhelds were the place to go since development was cheaper.
OH!

JRPGs haven't died, they just settled back down to their normal niche. They went through a fadish resurgence in the mid-late 90s, but before that they were just like they are now. One or  two good releases a year, with a great release sprinkled here and there. 2015 has like what, 2 FF games, a Persona and Xenoblade X.

Meanwhile, RTSs have...nothing coming out this year.
