Don't do that why? Not everyone can donate now but they may want to donate later?
Because the YS is not the Red Cross. It's a company. It's not even certain they are allowed by law to receive donations (In France, they can't, unless I'm mistaken).
Because there's no accountability for donations, that's why they're donations.
Because you don't know these peoples, and some may be dishonest or bad at managing money.
Because any heavy artistic/entertainement project (and that covers pretty much any film or videogame) can encounter a number of woes during production and end not being made at all despite expenses engaged.
Because you may be aware of the risks and be reasonable, but some of the other fans may not be aware of that and may risk their life savings.
At the very least, Kickstarter offers some little legal coverage and a paper trail.
I know that for you Shenmue is not just a product made for profit but at the end of the day it is what it is, even if Yu Suzuki and his team are not driven by that. As I said, if the compulsion to throw money at it is so strong in the fan community, actually set up a private entity and properly invest in Shenmue III. We're talking of thousands of dollars there, you should be entitled to know what is being done with it and get something out of it if it pays off.
