IIRC I read about all that after I saw Michael J. Anderson melting down and claiming that Laura was directly inspired by Lynch's daughter, (including the diary and the rape scene in FWWM.)

Lynch raped his daughter? 🤔

I don't know guys, even if Laura isn't meant to be portrayed as a messiah, the entire concept of her being artificial created by a benevolent spirit from the White Lodge is kind of too close to fan fiction planet Garmonbozia territory. I remember reading the script for FWWM a long time ago and people making theories about them "descending from pure air" and space lumberjacks. I didn't want it to be true, but I guess those people were right on the money.

That's true, Wrath people that are all "this is so obvious " are annoying. To be honest I quite enjoyed the episode, I did fast forward at times becaude the pacing is so slow and I am impatient, so I missed a few things and ended up having to go back and rewatch certain scenes. The only thing that really bothered me is the Laura orb, but like you said, we don't  have a confirmation of what it actually means. The episode raised more questions than it answered.

On a side note, would anyone like a flashback of how Bob initially "entered" little Leland? I guess it's kind of pointless, but would be cool visually. Also, the adventures of Bob and Mike in their hey days.

Also the whole Bob as an egg thing most likely came out of necessity. Poorly done CG Bob running around would not be a good look.

Nah, no way the woodsman is Bob. The woodsmen are woodsmen. Bob is Bob. Eager for fun. He wears a smile, everybody run.

I thought the CG in episode 8 was spectacular, mesmerizing and wholly appropriate. Most likely most of the budget went to episodes like this one.

Lol you have no idea how true that is then.

Ep 8 is literally the ending of Mulholland Drive + the entirety of Eraserhead.

saw a pretty good theory on Youtube.

The Giant's "wife" is named Senorita Dido in the credits. The word dido means a mischievous prank or a trick. The guy in the youtube video said that maybe Dido pulled a fast one on the Giant, but didn't elaborate further than that.

What if by kissing the Laura orb, Dido corrupted her, and that's why Laura turned out so fucked up?

Another good theory that I read on Dugpa, is that because Leland was already possessed by Bob when Laura was conceived, she's in a way Bob's daughter. That would certainly be some evil heritage she has.

gonna watch this first later

I sat down and watched all of this during lunch today. It made me remember why I loved this series so much, in a way that I wouldn't have experienced if I actually re-watched the show from start to finish.

I'd forgotten about Shelly's abusive husband, Leo. I had forgotten about James and Madeleine. I had also forgotten that the doppelganger appeared in the Black Lodge/Red Room prior to Bob inhabiting Cooper.

That's a fantastically well-put-together sequence. Probably mostly useless for newcomers, but as a memory refresher, it was superb.

Since I'm only sticking around until the Ami drama dries up, I'd just like to take this time to say I f'n love the new season so far. Part 8 had me glued to my screen. That was one of the most stunning things I've seen on TV. If you photoshopping BOB and Laura's faces out, the post-NIN portion of the episode could be a really cool non-TP-related short film.

Yeah this video worked, it's been near a decade since i've thought about TP before the new series and this just got me right back to where i needed to be.

As I watched the episode I felt myself get frustrated for the first time in the franchise. Just so many extra seconds in every cut that seemed to only be there to add time. The three FBI guys joking around was the worst part IMO. Long, boring smoke session with Diane and Gordon being second.

On reflection, it did seem to move the story forward in a big way, so I’m not too upset. But I probably was expecting more given this is the first episode in two weeks, and the previous episode was a prequel/side-story (however amazing it was.)

Oddly enough, I didn't notice this much last night outside of the smoking scene, and I've seen it called out a lot in this specific episode. I watched it three times, too.

This was the first episode that didn't click at all with me.

A lot of it was just inching off stuff we could already figure, the spacey writing didn't work like it did in the other episodes.

That Andy and Lucy scene was just terrible.

Yeah, I feel bad criticizing that scene because I love Andy and Lucy, and I'd rather see the old chars in the new show considering how little screentime they've gotten so far, but... Yeah. That scene seems pointless on the surface, in an episode with a lot of (seemingly) pointless things.

I like the Andy and Lucy stuff (mostly). I only take issue that they've been given a lot of throwaway gaggy material that could have been used on throwaway material for other old fave characters. I want to see Simple James in action.

Major Briggs was clearly set up to be a bigger character in a third season had it happened back then. I'm glad he's getting a lot of acknowledgement still.

If there was anything I worried about, it was how Lynch would incorporate long dead actors into the show as their characters were very meaningful to the show as a whole. I feel like he knocked it out of the park in that aspect.

One of the writers (I forget whether it was Frost or Lynch--I think it was just one of the general writers) said one of the ideas for the original S3 was to focus on Briggs trying to find/save Coop.

Is it some meta commentary on modern TV that all the new in TP characters are utterly unrepentant sacks of shit outside of one who was retconned to have always been around and another who is the daughter of a liked character doing the same thing her mom did 25 years ago?

I'm assuming the first one is Frank but I can't for the life of me work out who the daughter is :(

edit: forgot it was Shelley's daughter
