I don't know if anyone's been keeping up with production, but they had no set episodes when they started - they've been shooting from one long, massive script and only decided the amount of episodes during editing.

sounds like this will be done right then, getting hype.

might also be the last film/tv thing we get out of him ever  :'(

Of course he would disagree. Him and everyone on his staff have never even seen Twin Peaks  ;)

So he and them just put together the aesthetic together from an overabundance of Coca Cola's Georgia Coffee advertisements during their childhood?

Weird. He is probably worried about litigation. Japanese people worry about copyright litigation in inverse proportion to how much Chinese people worry about it.

It might be -total speculation- that he got defensive, denied it and since then is keeping up face rather than outing himself as a fool.
It's not the first time it happens (audience identify influence, creator denies vehemently) and I suspect my idea is plausible because some critics and fans are prone to very excessive opinions : they will often overrate the weight of a specific influence, sometimes miscontrue completely them because they're not that well-read (I had one guy telling me the robot designs in Pacific Rim were obviously Evangelion-like. I feel you can only believe that if you're totally oblivious to the breadth of various mecha representation in popular culture, especially japanese. Similar case as Del Toro says he didn't watch Eva before making it.) and on top of that mix and confuse "influence", "homage" with "lack of originality" if not "plagiarism". I think a lot of artists are short-fused when it comes to being lectured to what they really meant by people talking out of their ass, and wouldn't be surprised they'd deny in a kneejerk reaction.

It also happens that different artists may form some similar works from similar influences without being aware of each other too.

Do you think Inland Empire will be his last? I almost refuse to believe we live in a world where David Lynch has decided he's done making movies while fraudulent Ridley Scott says he's got five more Alien sequels in the tank. Reading his comments about not making another feature basically because of the box office discrepancies between good and bad movies makes me hope he might have a change of heart and do something for Netflix or Amazon in the future

Has the reception to Firewalk With Me changed over the past 25 years? Because it's definitely going to be a lot more like that than the TV show, and that shit ain't for everyone.

they actually bring that up in this review and we're on the same page with it probably gonna throw ppl of the show way way off much like FwM did. I'm expecting 18 hours of madness

I mostly agree with this, I just hope he gauges 'reception' beyond initial critical reaction. he seems a lot more tuned into his core audience than a lot of weirdos of his ilk, especially at 70, so I'm hopeful that he'll have a change of heart

And yeah, I'm thinking people expecting coffee, apple pie and comfort show shenanigans are in for some insanity. Since this is Twin Peaks and David Lynch, I'm excited for some insanity. But some people will be thrown off for sure.
I'm excited for this to frustrate the shit out of the online community.  :lol

The tv show "detectives" trying to connect the dots and find hidden meanings in every goddamn thing will be thrown into a tailspin from week to week.

Man, that was brilliant and insane and utterly terrifying and I loved it. :lawd

Now it's two week until the next new episode.  :'(

spoiler (click to show/hide)
Okay, so the Cooper Doppelganger has been roaming around for 25 years, while the real Cooper was trapped in the Black Lodge, but there was a time limit on how long he could be in the real world, or maybe a certain set of circumstances that would pull him back to the lodge. So he creates a second doppelganger (Dougie) to act as a proxy for when the real Cooper returns to the real world. Now Cooper and the Doppelganger are both in the real world at the same time, and it's fucking both of them up (Cooper is amnesiac and the Doppelganger is puking toxic bile everywhere and is acting a bit strange as well) and one of them has to die before the other one can be right.

Lots of numbers that I have no idea the significance of. 253. It was 2:53 when Cooper returned to the real world. The door that was marked 15, and then later 3. That whole scene was wild. I have no clue what any of that was.

The Glass Box. Cooper passed through it after leaving the Red Room and before ending up in the Pink Room(?). Then the monster came through a few minutes later committed coitus interruptus on those people's faces. So does that mean the monster is chasing Cooper and wtf is it? And who owns the building that the Glass Box was in? Were they looking for Cooper or something else?

I wish I hadn't read all that, but I'm happy I read all that.

The ending of the series, with Coop and the mirror and BOB was so striking, but it left me wondering what happened. I remember Leland resurfaced toward his own end, but it wasn't clear if he was a prisoner in his own body while BOB controlled him, or if he was "elsewhere" when BOB was dominant. I ended up running an RPG set in Twin Peaks to put out my own answer to the story, I was so caught up in it.

Very, minor spoiler

The one thing that I've noticed is that besides the scene with Bobby & Laruas picture, there has been no background music, especially the old background music. The only time I missed it was the scene with Lucy and eating the bunny which felt like it needed it. However it's made it feel much more eerie and it really makes the atmosphere.

Also not sure why Bobby was so cut up since less than a week after Larua died he was more interested in Shelley anyway

I am kind of withholding judgement at this point. It could be bringing it back to town slowly or it could be a massive troll job. At least it's entertaining and novel that it got a second chance right on time.

Wife kind of hating it so far and I can understand why.  :lol

Reminded how eh I was on FWWM. Lot of the mythos behind the show was never too interesting to me and seemed made up as it went along in most cases. The characters and aesthetic made the show, wondering if they can strike twice after all this time.

I just want Coop back!
