Double major CS and Math (or Stats) and go into machine learning.  Make money.  Also, the upper CS courses are the good ones WTF you smoking.

I'll echo the opinion above. Upper level CS courses are probably both the most fun and most useful.

The situation might be different in the US, but all of my friends who went into machine learning have a PhD.

Proven experience is a good alternative to a degree. A solid portfolio of software can convince employers of your skills.

A PhD is not necessary but its a lot harder to get a ML job without either a Masters or a ML related internship.

Bought a plant identification app this morning and found a bunch of wild greens in my little wooded area that I’m totally gonna start foraging, as well as few invasive species I’m gonna nip in the bud. Cleared out a bunch fallen branches and shit. It’s like real life animal crossing, you guys

Also, I'm extremely nervous still, but made the biggest career change of my life today. 😬 Well, I've been "making" the decision over the last week (lining things up, discussing it with family/close friends, trying to calculate every future variation like goddamn Rehoboam) but today was, like, "it."

Probably not the best time to abandon coding and pursue screenwriting but fuck it, if not now when? :) Been barely scraping by for the last year on contracts anyways and extracting payments from one of my clients was so excruciating I think it killed contract-coding entirely for me. And losing my 9-5 in 2018 killed that for me too.

That said, I know screenwriters are still the bitches of the industry and I'm starting on the bottom. But I know I can write, I know I can give notes, and I know I can produce short films. And I know that's a start. :)

Maybe in a year I'll be sucking dick in LA for crack but at least I'll have some scripts I can show for it.

I honestly think I might go for applied mathematics because my math grades are all As and I don't want to do upper division CS courses, even though I'm trying to get into software engineering. It's just having any quantitative degree that'll get me past HR, right? Plus that could be a bonus if I wanted to go the machine learning route.

posting this so someone can warn me and say NOOOOOO if my premise is completely wrong. I know for a fact that neither esch nor riotous have relevant degrees...

My experience is that it comes down to the HR person and the hiring manager. I've had bosses who wouldn't hire anyone without a degree from a "reputable" school and I've worked places that didn't look twice at the name of the school or degree.

Was really nervous today about sending over my first ever script notes, but the author gave my feedback a perfect rating. :D

I can actually say that doing my stupid one-paragraph movie reviews here has helped develop this skill a little. I felt myself basically going into the same "mode" when writing my notes. "This worked, this didn't, this could be better if X."

Just have to be a bit more careful since with notes, since you know there's one singular individual waiting day and night for your feedback on their possible life's work. Can't say "this part was fucking boring" as much.

His perfect rating and thank you note has really turbocharged my heart. :heartbeat

I've been trying to take cair of my hair better because I want to grow it out, so I have so many products in it that I smell like a woman.  This gave me the insight that smell is really a neglected sense when it comes to masturbation.

i recommend a hair/nail vitamin if you aren't already taking one. that and not taking a shower at skin burning temps made the biggest change in my hair staying healthy and growing better. also using a hair mask like once a month too.

Checked my weight; I'd gone from 98kg to 96 to 94 -- and then lockdown, stress eating, and my son's newfound baking hobby hit. I'm up to 101kg again.  :-\

So I've gone jogging for 5 of the last seven days. I have always hated running. Hated it. But each time I've gone out, I've been able to run further than the previous time. It feels amazing. :hyper

they are letting you demo ableton suite for 90 days at moment on their site. I have an APC40 from years ago that's been collecting dust that I brought out last weekend after not fucking with it in forever...I apparently went legit on an ableton license last night. I don't remember this. :awesome

my endgame is psytrance or dnb bootlegs of 80's songs that will mix seamlessly into modern stuff. I think I have a shot.

I escaped death yesterday by a metre.

Was skating and did a U-turn on a country road, I checked before doing it (or did I correctly?)  and the car behind me was signalling a turn so I decided to proceed. It then skid past me hitting the brakes as I came into its lane.

Never doing that again, next time I will come to a full stop and look.

Wife slapped me in the head for this too.

Bought a Sodastream and found out that Pepsi is selling Pepsi Max (or Pepsi Zero Sugar) syrup for those things. Tried it and while it doesn't taste like the stuff you buy in bottles or cans, it tastes exactly like the stuff you get from soda fountains.

The guy who owns the empty lots next to me sent out a surveyor today. Surveyor turns out to be my neighbor down the way a little bit and I told him the story of how the guy tried to sell me land I already owned. He’s says “yeah he had me mark the lot line but county records show you own half of the next lot” which I knew and thought I had accounted for but once he was done, I got a whole ‘nother slice of land :lol

Getting my Danish Trump cheque.

Holiday allowance thing. They froze in a bunch of them a year or two ago, due to us changing the system (so we didnt have to wait for our money anymore...), so the leftovers were put into some retirement fund. But thanks to the big rona, we can get them now instead. About 1.5k euros for me. That should just be enough for that for that ps5.

Went for a run this morning. Did my usual 11 minute route in less than 7 minutes! On Sunday I did a slower pace, but ran for 2.4 km solid, which is a first for me in this life, I think. Feels great at 52 years old to be making healthy moves.

BONUS: Got in on the Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality, 2 hrs before it finished.

I'm going to transition this place to greatness
Well, this turned out differently than expected. There wasn't much to 'run' left anymore in terms of people and projects at the other company.
But we did successfully transfer all the clients to the welcoming project management arms of Nintex. Fixing shit in a week that had been delayed by months and preventing them to shop for different vendors. :mynicca
Despite COVID-19 this could be the most profitable quarter we've had in like 3 years.

Pro Client Management Tip
This client sends me too many emails, halp I'm getting stressed and depressed  :-\

You are wrong! It means you're not sending enough emails. Emails go BRRRRRRRRRR when client prefers emails because client is unaware and unwilling to try other options.

Client eventually can't keep up and goes: "I'm sorry for responding late...."

You go: "Hey I send you an email the other day if you could respond this week, you might've missed it so I'm just sending you a friendly reminder otherwise you won't make your deadline  :awesome"

Client goes:  "oops I think I missed another email"

You: "No problem, I'll resend it. In the meantime let's onboard you on Monday or another project management tool and we won't have to send so many emails anymore"

Client: "Oh wow, you are genius I can use this for other things too"
