The problem is that she is dead set on going to one of those "colleges," similar to Everest/Ross/ITT Tech/etc. Non-accredited, lots of bad reviews...just a blatant waste of money

Convince her that the field is very competitive and that she still needs to talk to some nurses/go on their forums to get an idea of the level of education and shadowing experience needed.

You exaggerate it subtly enough and then when she talks to them and sees how crazy limited her job prospects are going to be with a degree from those colleges, she'll change her mind hopefully. Especially when learning how many medical people went into the field after going back to school through community college.

99% of what you learn in any medical track is hands on skills and how to pimp your GPA/LORs from important people and institutions.

Put in my two weeks yesterday.
:rejoice

"So why is this a struggle," you might ask.

Management-level staffing at this place has been atrocious for a while.  If just one person is off or calls out, shit can go down...especially in the evenings and on weekends.  The guy who comes in after me put in a time off request two months ago, for yesterday and today, and nobody bothered to schedule him for this until Wednesday.  Even then, that's two days to find someone, right?

NOPE.

They didn't get anyone.  And since I'm the unfortunate one who was still there at the time, I was asked to stay at work until 11:30 PM (got in at 9:15 AM).  My boss admitted this was all her fault and said she'd see about finding someone to take my place today so I wouldn't have to come in.  I know her well enough to know that this wasn't going to happen.  We asked literally everyone who could handle things and everyone said they couldn't do it.

Fortunately, around 8:00 PM I found that another lead who was supposed to be on vacation had popped in to do some work and he was cool with covering.  So I let them know that I'd come back in for my regular shift today from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.  There is still nobody here that is coming in after me.  I was told that someone in our other office (in another city) will watch everything.  That's a disaster waiting to happen.

And I still expect some shit to go down where they try to keep me here.  I'm already working a nine hour day without breaks or lunch, bitches.  That's enough.  Shit's about to get worse when everyone finds out that I'm leaving.  They're gonna have to scramble to get coverage and people are not gonna be happy.  I'm just hoping I can get through the next two weeks unscathed.  :lol

(I know I could just walk right out the door, but I don't want to burn any bridges)

Nah, at an IT help desk that supports law firms.  I'm gonna be working at a firm now.  They don"t make anyone work weekends there and you actually get holidays OFF.  Like, holy shit.  It's NORMAL.  Gotta be on call?  It's a rotation and they pay you extra for it.  This is fucking amazing after where I've been.

I actually left on time today.  Unbelievable, lol.  One more weekend of this shit left to go.

I assume everyone in the ME just gets nocturnal then. Iranians already hate being out during the day. I myself have to still put up Islamic pretenses so that means no food/water when I'm home during the weekend.

Well, AiA was right. Brunswick, OH isn't a tiny shit town like West Des Moines was, but it's definitely hillbilly as hell. One street with every business in the whole city, this place is even too small for a Wal Mart. Never thought I'd see that.

Anyway the biggest struggle is I can't seem to find a bar here. Also goddamn there are a lot of cops on the street, they must be bored as hell.

How will dating her will make you feel better about any of that? Don't just say it won't cuz you obviously got some ideas in your head suggesting otherwise.

Updates!  It's still a struggle but not nearly as bad a struggle:

- No DUI charge.  Lessened to Wreckless Endangerment.  Can get it expunged after my probation.
- No jail time
- No classes
- One year probation, 350 dollar fine with it, check in once a month by phone or email.  No drug testing.
- 350 dollar court fee
- Interlock device during probation, license is still completely valid
- 24 hours community service

All of that is way way more ok by me.  the DUI charge and the jail would've been awful for me.  The biggest suck is the interlock device, but I'm more than okay with that.

Sucks man, I still got all my grandparents but one has Alzheimer now and another one has early Dementia :( The one with Dementia already had a stroke and heart attack.

Its real hard seeing them all get so old when I can remember how young and alive they were.

So I've been laboring last 2 days trying to minimize a disaster on a task that was given to me, because the people who came before me and were supposed to do the main work has been shit as hell. Supposedly it's a polishing phase, but I've been given an actual turd to work with. As a result I did over 3 hours of (unpaid) overtime to do what I can. Several steps of production have been botched so I took a look to the report sheet and I saw pretty much all the names I expected to, all permanent employees (I'm "interim", even though I clocked more hours than most of them for a full 18 months). A bit of poor motivation and a lot of incompetence, probably.

It's a fucking disgrace (especially since they're ever malcontent about being told to work their hours and about their pay) but I won't bring this up to my manager because it's a fight I can't win. My employement can stop at the drop of a hat if they so please, while permanents can't be dismissed easily. No use escalating it either, our higher ups see interim workers as a expense to get rid of ASAP (a running theme though our different masters, until they realize they can't achieve their production goals without us and that we have most of the skill). Beyond that, our management seems to suffer from a total lack of backbone, made worse since we were bought a year ago and cost considerations have clearly taken over any commitment to quality. If they are really doing their jobs, they ought to know who performs well and who doesn't. Antagonizing colleagues would only breed more bad blood.

Really I should just hack it and leave 30 seconds before the end of my shift but heh what can you do ? When you're freelance you have to be more dependable and take some pride in your craft.

Nah, they're not mean-spirited. By essence there's some silent tension on wages (I have a poor rate, but I'm still making way more by the hour than them) and because permanent and freelance employment are two very distinct worlds. We're remote now from that but there's still a factory like culture, no snitching on the production floor : as I said, management has all the report sheets and data they need to form an opinion if they are so enclined. They must know anyway, because we all do : we're working sequentially, so we're all seeing each other work constantly. Permanents would be totally fine if we just delivered the bare minimum of work we should.

So instead I just vent here. Honestly doing the extra hours is not a real problem, I did that quite a few times and will do again if I think it must, what bothers me here is that this particular product is worthwhile so it's sad to see the thing sabotaged like that. All the more since a poor job will probably end up costing more to my employer, because the client would be entitled to just refuse it as is (as he done in the past quite a number of times).

He (and my Grandma) wasn't particularly religious and I think my mom's side of the family will honor that by not having an overtly religious funeral.

Which is funny since most of my mom's side, save for an uncle and a nutty aunt, kinda drank too much of the Jesus kool-aid after they got married/had children.

I believe he once said that nature was his church to one of my cousins.

Also, he was a chemist (non-pharmaceutical). So his science background probably contributed to his skepticism of organized religion.

Jeeze, man. Who hurt you?   :badass

All this macho shit comes off as if you're trying to cover up some deep seated emotional pain.  :doge
