Usually that can be remedied by making the buttons a distinct color from the rest of the layout and by adding a hover/click animation:

Sure, but in touch interfaces where "hover" isn't in play, that's more difficult. OTOH, those buttons are all CLEARLY BUTTONS. Adding a right-facing carat does not make a button out of a header.

This shit is seriously wrong-headed. It would be forgivable if tapping on either header would also progress to a usable screen, but they don't.

Recently I also found that in iOS Music.app, the full-width headers for "Album," "Artist," and such are actually TWO interactive elements; the cover-art on the left functions as a Play button. The text on its right will drill down into the topic. Some, but not all cases show a Play button. For instance, Genre doesn't have the button, but still functions.

And, of course beyond any reason, tvOS on AppleTV doesn't support this functionality in its implementation, though it has separate "select" (GlassTouch click) and Play buttons.

Steaming pool of bovine diarrhea.

Ah, I see.

A quick fix would be making those arrows blue like the "< General" one at the top.

I could probably think up of another way to make iOS Setting's UX/UI much intuitive but it's 12:30 am and I need to sleep.

The only part in of this sentence that I care about is missing: did you ragequit via a keyboard shortcut, or use a difficult-to-identify button to do it?

ExtremeTech is one of those websites with the "ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO LEAVE?" alerts on page-exit. I dislike those even more than "This page wants to know your location" or "This page wants to set up a second home in your Alert Center. That's cool, right?" You're a web page. Get over yourself.

I've looked at that sub a couple of times, but every time I'm struck by how pointless all that customization is when all you'll be staring at websites, videos or fullscreen video games most of the time.

Tiling window managers especially make absolutely no sense to me, outside of wanting to keep your hands on the keyboard.

Presumably the new and shiny one doesn't have all the options so they kept the old one around for power users.

Same thing with bundling both Edge and IE. Gotta have something to access corporate websites.

I imagine by Windows 11 or whatever they'll both be phased out completely.

I still have a problem with one external hard drive constantly disconnecting/reconnecting itself when it 'wakes up'.  This was also a problem with Windows 7 and 8, but there was an easy fix that doesn't work on 10.

But it IS just that one HDD and it's getting to the point that I might as well just replace it anyway.  It's like six years old now.

Write a small service/batch file that does this

Have seen that but would prefer to just have a HDD that doesn't have this problem.  It's just 1TB and those are pretty cheap these days.

Upgraded on my gaming laptop; didn't even think about trying it on the Windows tablets that we have.  I had a bad experience with 10 on a T100 last year and returned it for a slightly older model with 8.1, which worked much better.  But to be fair that's because it was cheaper hardware and things weren't optimized well on it.

I just ordered a Surface Pro 4.  That will be my first real experience with 10 using a touch screen.

It'll work, but not as well as 8.1 seems to be the common consensus with Tablets. I only use Tablet mode with Kindle and Zinio on mine. :doge Otherwise I'm using the "laptop" mode about 90% of the time.

Yeah, I upgraded for DX12. I haven't really ran into anything serious other than a minor mobo related bug which was not technically Windows' fault. (The BIOS had to be flashed to correct how it identified itself without drivers present, Windows 7 didn't like it either.)

Compability issues on games aren't as bad as they were last year. Most of it I find are games demanding I upgrade to Windows 98SE or Windows ME from my outdated OS.

But a lot of stuff now has fixes for that, most of it seems tied to dead DRM or weird installers. Like when you upgrade Crysis (to use one example) with the patch that removed SecuROM or whatever, the error goes away.

Actually, most everything I've had problems with are the free games EA accidentally gave away on Origin. :lol

how long is the USB cable that's connecting the hard drive to the computer? if it's a long cable that could cause problems. using a very short USB cable could solve that problem

Over 12".

my fuckin taskbar gets randomly locked all the time and the start+search buttons work for about a minute after boot, then clicking on them does nothing.

Somehow the problem has only been getting worse since my install months ago.  The start/search buttons might break once a week before, now it's almost immediately after boot.

otherwise, solid OS for now, but it sounds like they're about to start heavily fucking with it by forcing Cortana and shit

So Windows 8 wasn't that good for PC but good for tablets.

Windows 10 is good for PC but not so good for tablets.

Why won't Microsoft understand that this whole unified OS thing is just a bunch of bullshit and you need to separate operating systems? Just do like Apple does ffs.

Windows 10 is the best solution for those 2-in-1s that have laptop and tablet mode (ie: Lenovo Yoga or Surface Pro). Some of us actually like flipping between swiping and using a trackpad. :shrug

Thanks! I was feeling strongly like I might switch back to Windows in a year or so, but I'm over it after your post. Those mysterious, hard to troubleshoot bullshit moments feel fewer and further apart in OS X. (OLD MacOS, on the other hand, can still eat a dick for weird inconsistencies.)
