my fav #YoshichanEpisode was probably when he delayed going to the doctor for a pain in his hand by about a week because he needed to be home for the mailman delivering dark souls1 (and then play thru it, worsening the pain in his hand quite a bit). When he max leveled in kingdom hearts 2 by grinding the most basic 1exp enemies for hundreds of hours was another good one.

Always appreciated how he manages to express his derangement in novel and fun ways.  :itagaki

Selling something at a loss makes sense when competition is fierce and the cost of hardware/materials is projected to become much lower in the future. VR isn't a normal thing for consumers yet and for it to be justified as a neat toy when it comes to quality, the hardware is going to expensive.

Palmer Luckey said in an interview recently that Facebook is going to try eat costs and sell OR as cheap as possible just to get the tech established and Facebook has money to burn. Sony's been trying to keep the lights on recently and only just brought back the company from the brink. So anyone expecting them to eat costs on it just because Facebook is doing it as well was sorely mistaken. Like hell Sony will sell that thing for anything lower than $399.

It's been so long since we had a "Sony commits PR suicide again" thread I forgot what they looked like :whew

I don't feel that VR is a novelty item, it feels truly amazing to use, and it's something I could see myself using a lot in the future. But the future being the keyword, people are expecting it to do well way too soon. It's not going to be a giant hit already, and especially not on already underpowered hardware like PS4. But with the backing Oculus got now and such, I don't see it going away too quickly, as the typical Sony fad.

Yeah, what's a likely novelty item is a VR headset tied to a closed hardware like PS4 where it will be restricted to mostly games. I could see how VR or something related could very well be an important advance in the near future.

VR will have it's day, I have no doubt of that.

I can't say for sure it'll be anytime soon though. The tech is interesting but I just don't see it being useful till it gets more practical. No one in their right mind is going to have a spin on it and treat it as anything more than a luxury until it gets slimmed down and doesn't look like you have a Virtual Boy attached to your head imo. They day they have some geordi la forge size gear going on is the day that shit blows up.

Plenty of good drama. The console maker post here. I get the appeal of a niche system for enthusiast, I do really, a Neo Geo (or a Pocket one, that was nifty) equivalent would rock... If it had a game library... But it's so transparent those projects are stillborn.

And no, he doesn't play fighting games or Street Fighter, he would rather talk about those games and never have plans to actually play them.

Is Street Fighter trashy tho?
I mean it's pretty fucking hard to beat DoA in terms of finding inventive ways to show tits without actually showing them.

I mean at least Street Fighter girls don't look like they're 12 year old girls with the tits of a 21 year old.
Actually you know what, I haven't seen all the SF DLC shit, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe they did go the way of the boobfighter without me knowing.

It really isn't. SFIV has 42 or 43 characters, out of that cast two characters (Juri and Poison) are sexual as fuck, no other women characters come off as fan service material.

For Street Fighter V its R. Mika.

It's kind of a chauvinist pig attitude / man reaction but there's degrees to the cringiness. Honestly SF or KoF never on the whole were too bad (except a couple characters) both because of design and art direction especially compared to something like Dead or Alive. But sure on the whole it's pretty juvenile and certainly not some feminist vanguard.

I get what you're saying but honestly in the case of R.Mika / Street Fighter I'm honestly not sure that's something that would really disturb most outside people. It's cartoony, it's very low on gorn (if there's any) and there's no lethality implied. I think most people would recognize R.Mika as a wrestler and the outfit (if obviously pushing ass and tits) is not so out of context there. They'll probably think not highly of it (or even think nothing of it) but neither do we of whatever the crazy teens of today watch.

I would be ten times more creeped out for various reasons by DoA, Mortal Kombat, GTA or any of the modern FPS featuring interactive torture and stuff.

Also for what it's worth, and despite all their flaws in that department, Street Fighter* and King of Fighters** were actually pretty good at having a diverse cast both in terms of gender and nationalities/ethnicities. Sure, the women are young, beautiful, and will often have alluring (but not crass) outfits, all characters are often cookie-cutter bombastic archetypes (some borderline offensive) and the canonical hero will be male (but who really cares about stories in 2D fighters ?). This all of course by design in fighter games but still.

* For my own curiosity's sake :
SFA3 has 9 female characters out of 36.
SF3 Third Strike 5 out 20.
USF4 11 (counting Poison, for all you FG geeks) out of 44

**
KoF98 (Original version) has 11 female characters out of 43.
KoFXIII 9 out of 23

The people in that thread crying the most are currently pissy because it's not the "right" company that's going to sell it at a loss and "win" the market (More like barely survive the fact any software company early adopting it is FUCKED). Especially since OR "sold out" to Facebook/Samsung/Microsoft/The Jews or whatever boogeyman that's going to "ruin" their "pure maiden" simulator. There's no doubt with HTC's precarious financial situation and Valve's inexperience in hardware that that's going to be a $500-$600 system. It's going to be quality kit since it's HTC (I've had a M8 for a year and it's the business) but it's not going to be cheap. Sony can't afford to eat a loss on it as well, so they will likely go for $399-449 range and $450-500 for the camera since the camera is sold separately and some people will have it already. Facebook can sell OR at a loss and Zuckerberg's said he's fully prepared to burn money to get it in the market. It wouldn't be surprising if they did go $299. Still DOA to the mainstream but enthusiasts will eat it up quicker than the other two devices.

But then the current VR situation is a suicide run on trying to get to market before China has a chance to butt in. Yet GAF is stanning for the brands they want to "Win" the VR war before it's even started. It's ludicrous GAF logic at its finest.
