As someone who mostly plays Japanese games, some with subtle lewd scenes/character outfits/etc., and who lived through the dark times of English localization, I'm always worried that publishers will be more gun-shy about bringing games to the states, where even some of the more benign titles may end up getting caught in the crossfire.

I'm not a proponent of perpetual progress but it is hard to imagine the cat will go back in the bag. Fans of japanese modern mass culture should probably be more worried of the economic well being of that industry over there than moral stiffness here. I also tend to put that back in perspective, just consider how large the offering has become over 25 years (starting at Akira). The most popular manga series are topping charts (in France and the US, at the very least) along if not over domestic contenders and there's a solid fan base to market too. I don't see anything to worry about.

I'll go as far as to say that the most pedorrific stuff being cracked upon in Japan would probably be beneficial long term to the industry. The fandom will probably stay as insular and exotic as Japan itself but it would help if it didn't tow all the weirdos that flock to that shit. Some amount of weirdness is expected in any hobby enthusiasts gathering and it is already hard to cope as it is.
