I remember refreshing the GAFforums on Weekday mornings, getting tons of new infos about upcoming titles, covers of upcoming titles in america and japan, industry insider interviews, tech infos...

The forum really felt connected to the industry, it really had that insider edge. The gameplay threads were amazing. I remember MAF's thread about Morrowind; it convinced me to buy a freaking xbox with Halo and that game back in the days.

The fact that the last couple of 'insider rumors' threads on the forum turned out to be complete bullshit is certainly not helping the credibility of a so-called nexus of hardcore gamers, enthusiast press, and video game industry developers and publishers.

Nowadays There are more breaking news threads about new burgers available at McDonald in the OT section than actual legit industry threads in the gaming section. I certainly feel that I'm up to date to the newest pepsi flavors and KFC specials.

That was really almost a decade ago, but I still get my game news from there.

The turning point was 2007 or so when the floodgates opened and every dipshit reject from GameFAQs and 4chan started running wild over there.  Evilore must have figured he would make more money with a base of low content shitposting than with quality discussion.  From a business perspective, I understand why he did it but it's still funny that he pretends that NeoGAF is anything other than a shithole that everyone makes fun of.

100%'ing a game you really like always felt nice even in the pre-achievements era. Achievements simply made completing a game feel more "official". I only have a handful of platinums but I I'm glad I did them cause I had fun figuring out pretty much everything about those games I platinum'd.

The NX is primed to have the best development teams release content within the first year of launch though. Imagine if a EAD Mario Team game, Zelda Game and Retro studios game all came out within 2016-2017. All haven't put out a game in quite some time, so imagine they are already fairly far along.

Amber Alerts are like the bare fucking minimum in regards to getting a kid back. It's the equivalent of getting a text message and then vaguely looking around for 5 seconds before going back to your life. Not even sure what stump is getting at in that post.
