Thinking on, SFV isn't a ton better, they just don't have the balls to put them all together.

Will probably grab later if reviews shake out. Seems optimized well but no lobbies and very grindy from steam impressions.

IIRC discounts have happened before.

But yeah, it's not really any worse than what the other companies do...it just looks HOLYSHITLOL because it's all being offered together like that.  They also will sell everything separately and/or in smaller packs as the content releases.  If things are like DOA5, the only "exclusive" you get from spending $100 on that shit is a recolored costume for 1-2 characters. 

Lobbies are coming later -they've shown screenshots of them- for whatever reason they weren't ready for launch, and rather than delay further they decided to just patch them in soon.  I wouldn't bother looking at the Steam reviews since they're currently filled with people whining who don't know any better or have crappy setups.  Wait and see if there's anything legit fucked up or broken on the PC port since that is what will actually matter.  When Warriors All-Stars released, I posted a positive review about it running great (I think I was the first one to say anything) and got comments telling me I was full of shit because it wouldn't run well on their shitty systems.


Am downloading it on PC now so will let you know.  PS4 version is also pre-loaded. 

Will I buy that season pass?  Probably not.  Admittedly I did buy one or two of them for DOA5 (I played it a LOT), but in the end I don't see the point when I just use a handful of characters.  Also "wedding attire" costumes are

Runs like ninjadog on my laptop.  Something is making it slow down like crazy.  Not a good first impression for PC.  Hopefully there's just something that needs to be disabled or run differently to get around whatever is doing it.

Don't buy it from anywhere other than Steam- it's already discounted a bit on there and people are saying that they aren't getting the DLC purchase bonuses from GMG and the like.  The digital deluxe version is $70 on Steam- would get that so you get all the characters and some nice extras.

Ended up grabbing, offline looks/runs good. Tried online, had one ok fight and one laggy mess. I am over wireless though.

While I was unable to try the online portion of the final release, I'm sure fans have put time into the recent demo, which should give you an idea of how DoA 6 performs online. The second demo, which ran just last week, showed huge improvements in stability over the first, and hopefully this will be improved further for release day. At present, only Ranked Play is available, lobbies will be added later in March.

Too much focus on single player content in this review- did he play local multi at least? Online is a big part of these games now and there's so little mentioned about it here. DOA5 was one of the worst games to play online last gen and it wasn't much better with LR on the current gen consoles. That's the kind of thing I'd like to know more about.

Also noticing that reviews don't seem to know everyone who didn't come back.

It doesn't bother me much because it's set to come soon and if they're adding it later to ensure it works better, that's fine with me.  I'd be pissed if it had no lobbies at all though.

This game will likely end up being successful for them once the F2P version hits.  It's crazy that only Microsoft with KI and Koei with DOA have done this.

OK, so here's what sucks about DOA6 right now: unlocking shit.  DOA5 made it super-easy to unlock costumes.  This game gives you currency from doing stuff (wins, quest mode, etc.), BUT you can't unlock stuff right away.  You have to earn "costume parts" and get a certain amount of them just for a random costume to become available to purchase.  This is incredibly fucking stupid and means you have to grind like crazy just to get any outfit, let alone the one you want.



I bet there's gonna be enough complaints to get them to change this.  Either that or they'll be greedy and let you buy unlock pieces or the outfits outright instead.

it wouldn't even be terrible if you could spend parts on what you wanted but it's totally random, and doesn't seem to carry over. If you earn 300 on a randomly assigned 100 cost costume then you lose 200.

THEN you have to spend gold to actually unlock. 

I have been dicking around off and on all day, quest mode isn't too bad, just repetitive.

I didn't get to play too much today- had my laptop set up right next to my work PC and figured I'd get to do offline stuff while it was quiet...and naturally two people called out sick, so there went that!

Been playing on PS4 for the last hour or so- lots of people online.  Good players, even!     Fought a very impressive Jann Lee who kicked my ass and got a perfect on me in the last round of one battle.  I actually managed to get a match win off him somehow. 

The visuals on PS4 are clearly worse than the PC version.  Looks sooooo much cleaner on PC.

DOA is solid casual fun. I wouldn't cheerlead for it to be at Evo, but I do think if you just want to smash buttons against each other, it's good for that.

Though 4 makes a lot of the game into 50/50's IIRC with the hold-system.

Just played an online match- opponent used the same character...and had the same outfit. The game actually allowed for this instead of changing one of our costumes. That's kind of confusing and stupid. They did have a different hairstyle equipped, but it looked close enough to still make it hard to tell what was going on.

The costume shit makes me not want to play it, the presentation is kind of shitty, the new characters suck, there doesn’t seem to be as much content, and really the mechanics don’t really seem to be that intersting.

5 had great production values, the best version of DoAs gameplay, tons of content, cool new characters,  a non shitty unlock system, and was well supported during it’s life. Obviously 6 could be too, but eh maybe I’m done with this series. I mean I have 5 copies of DOA 5 alone(Xbox 360, PS3, PS3 Ultimate, PSVita, and PS4). I really loved that game. This seems kind of like a meh follow up.

It's too early to make that kind of judgement- the game literally just came out.  Look back to how DOA5 started- it took some updates and several upgrades before it got to where it was.  This game already has way better online and seems to have better character balance from the time I've spent with it.  Couldn't tell you about Diego, but NiCO is a pretty awesome new addition. 

What sucks about this game are:

1. The lack of lobbies- they've said an update adding them in is coming soon, like before the month is over.
2. The costume unlock system- this is fucking dumb, but it's also a minor gripe.  Am sure this will be addressed with all the complaints coming in.  Note that Dragonball FighterZ has a similarly-dumb random unlock system for character colors, but I never saw anyone complain about that.
3. The lack of characters coming from DOA5LR- OK, no guest characters from other companies' games is understandable (although they are happy to re-sell us Mai later), but why the hell did they REMOVE their own characters?  Momiji, Rachel, and Naotora Ii should have been in for sure.  I can kinda-sorta understand taking out Gen-Fu and Leon, since they're variants of Elliot and Bayman, though.

And then in the "can live without it and don't miss it, but...why" category is the removal of the tag mode.  It has been there since DOA++ in arcades, IIRC, and is a series staple.  It's not like something else has replaced it.

This is a better game than DOA5 was when it comes to game play and online connection quality.  Will have to wait and see what they do or don't do in regards to improving its negatives.

Minor rant:

I don't know what it is about DOA, but it always seems to get shit on for stuff like the scantily clad characters and DLC practices, when it's typical of most other fighting games as well.  Their season pass for $90+ is ridiculous, but so is all this season pass and DLC shit in the majority of fighting games.  Give them all crap for it. 

How much is Mortal Kombat 11 going to cost?  $59.99?  Nope- if you want the full game, it's $99.99.  And that's not including whatever else could follow later on.  This is such a normalized thing at this point that I've just accepted that your typical fighting game isn't $60 at release...it's $70-$100 because of DLC.  Forget the cosmetic shit; it can be done without- but they don't give us all the characters and that's what sucks. 

And don't forget to pre-order!  Otherwise if you want that one character who's finished and ready to go, but we took him out anyway, FUCK YOU give us another five bucks to unlock him!

I guess this is as good as time as ever to drop this information. I have no reason to lie about it since I don't particularly have any horse in this race but it's something I've heard from people who are in the know regarding the situation.


The final game at EVO 2019 was not supposed to be UNIST, initially, it was going to be DoA6. After the core values situation, the final game lineup changed. It's not really known as to who decided to cut the game, though. The most likely situations were EVO trying to stay consistent with their 'values' as to not look hypocritical or DoA devs/publishers deciding not to be on a platform that was decrying their game. From what I heard, there was a last minute decision on what game to sub in. The choices were between Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[st] and Super Smash Bros. Melee. I've been told that UNIST was chosen over Melee because of MrWizards personal bias against SSBM and the SSBM community. Apparently, a lot of people internally were very shocked at this decision and tried to combat it as SSBM tends to rake in a large number of viewers and attendees compared to a more obscure game.


You can take this how you want, tbh. I'm sure it'll get denied eventually but as I said, I don't really care about any of these games being at EVO specifically.

Expecting it to turn out well on PS4, Xbone, and PC.  Switch...dunno, but if the people porting it can do a good job, it could turn out awesome.  Massively downgraded visuals (textures) aside, MK9 and Injustice were really good Vita ports.

People are beating the arcade mode on higher difficulties and are getting as high as 950 costume pattern parts now.

Each locked costume is made up of X number of pieces, usually ranging from 300-1000 IIRC.  As things were before today's mini-update, winning matches would give you a tiny number of pieces...like 12-25.  The pieces you got were also random, so you might get 12 for Kasumi outfit 10 one match and then 20 for Bayman outfit 5 the next.

Even after getting all the pieces for an outfit, you then still have to buy it.  The currency you earn is thankfully way more plentiful than the pieces are, but the fact that they made it so that you had to grind an insane amount to even get ONE outfit completed, then grind to make sure you have enough in-game cash to then buy it was nutso. 

Now you get a shitload more pieces.  It's still random but that will be patched next week or so and will instead apply to your character.

My thoughts on this is that it's just dumb all-around.  Just ditch the pieces and make it so you buy everything with currency or make it straight-unlockable like the previous games.
